Sioux County -- SCHOOLSPERKINS CHRISTIAN SCHOOL, Lincoln Township |
(This photo and words were published in the Doon Press paper in Nov, 1987)
This was the student body at the Perkins Christian School in about the year 1914, the approximate year of it's founding. The teacher pictured here was Jake Bajema of Rock Valley. This photo, courtesy of Mrs. Anna Dykstra of Sibley, shows the school as a one-roomer. Later a two-room school was built and finally a four-room school of two floors. The school closed some time during the early thirties and plans for starting a Christian Reformed church in Perkins also failed to come about, affected no doubt by the depression. Mrs. Dykstra remembers these families were among the students: Van Wyhe, Bonestroo, Kooistra, Dykstra, Ruisch, Rons, Van Pykeren, Kooiker, Van't Hul and Wielenga. Information gathered by Gerrit & Jeanette VanGrootheest, Sioux Co.
