They all lived near Jacksonville. If you have any questions for me please ask. Any help on this matter will be greatly appreciated!!!

Subject: Lizzie DOUGLAS
Surnames: DOUGLAS
Query: I received the following email: From: <JNCVS22@aol.com> To: <djfnmk@fmctc.com> Sent: Tuesday, January 14, 2003 7:49 PM Subject: Shelby County Marthann, I found your name on one of the Ancestry message boards and thought you may be able to help me. I am writing from Georgia. A couple of years ago I purchased a collage of some things from an estate sale in Missouri. The items apparently belonged to a Miss Lizzie Z. Douglas of Shelby Iowa.. I have been curious about this lady ever since I bought them - who was she and who might her ancestors be? In the collage is a letter of recommendation from her principal at a Missouri Valley High School. She graduated in 1899 at the top of her class and was seeking employment as a teacher. There are several of her personal belongings. If this were my ancestor I would be thrilled to hear about them, and I really would like to find out something about this young lady. I don't have any way to look at a Shelby County census, etc. to possibly track down who she was. I am sure she must have married later. Could you help or direct me to someone, maybe a genealogical society in that area that I might contact ?
Thank you very much.
Jean
THIS IS WHAT I HAVE TRIED, SO FAR:
Shelby is in Shelby county and the Missouri Valley High School is in Harrison county. I have already sent Jean the addresses for the Genealogical Societies of those 2 counties. And I have posted this message on the IOWA board, the Harrison Co., IA board, the Shelby Co., IA board and also on the the "Douglas" surname board. Another researcher sent this: 1900 Douglas Township, Shelby County, Iowa Lizzie was listed as a boarder in a home. She was 29 at that time, school teacher, Kirkman,la. Does anyone know of Lizzie Douglas or her family? It would be nice to help Jean find a home for the memorabilia. Marthann

I believe that Catherine Ann is the daughter of David and Elizabeth BAUGHMAN who are buried in Manteno Cemetery, Grove Twp. Catherine and husband Francis Dungan were living in Cass Twp., Harrison Co., Iowa in 1860 and I can't find Catherine or Francis in the 1870 census. Catherine died about 1872, place unknown but on county records for Harrison Co., Iowa it states that Francis Dungan lived there till he moved at a much later date than Catherine's death. Since the Baughman's and Dungan's were living so close (just over the county line) I'm wondering if she might not have been buried somewhere in Shelby Co.?

Name: Doug Urbanus
Subject: John Thielen
Surnames: THIELEN, URBANUS
Query: I've been investingating the connection between John Thielen (posted to the Shelby County, Iowa 1915 biographicals). This posting says he was born in 1850 in the Rheinland (the equivalent of saying California) and that his father Jacob died in Monterey California in 1893. It also says that his dtr Mary was married to Nicolaus Urbanus (a nephew of my gggfth Mathias). This latter connection I understand, but I'm trying to establish that perhaps John is a brother of my ggrd mth, Mary Urbanus (nee Thielen, born 1851, Losheim Germany ), who moved to Monterey with her husband Michael in 1885. Her father was Jacob and her mth, Elisabeth Klaas. I can find no evidence of their deaths in Losheim, Germany. In terms of John's father - Jacob, I've gone to the cemeteries in Monterey and found no grave. I've examined the newspapers of the area (Salinas and Monterey) and found nothing as well (although there are unfortunately large gaps). John Thielen apparently died in Panama City (Shelby Co.) Iowa in 1939. The connection between Mary Thielen (Monterey) and John Thielen (Panama City) is so close. Even the connection to Losheim in tantalizing (given that I found a Jacob Thieleor, native of Losheim, in the burial records of the Monterey Catholic Diocese. Bottom Line: Does anyone know more about him or could take a look at his 1939 death cert to see if there are any details.

Subject: Info of Adoption @ The Christian Home of Mother

Query: Looking for any infomation on my mother Ora Warner, who was placed in the Christian Home when she was born, or shortly after. We have a letter from the Home about the family that raised her wanted to adopt her dated 9/19/16. She was born Jan 8, 1916. Her mother who we are also trying to locate infomation on was (Ortentia) Ora Pedrick, married to Frank Warner (or T.J. Warner). Ora was born in Wehr, Kansas. Had about 7 marriages, so we don't know how to find her. She was born 1895, gave up the children Mabel, Leroy (born 1914) and David O. (born 1912). On a copy of a birth cert. we have it shows the father's residence at Faulkton, S.D., and Ora there also. My grandmother went to my Mother's wedding to my Dad in 1935 at Anthon, Iowa as Mrs. O.M. House. David O. Warner was with her at their wedding. He was never adopted, so he kept the Warner name. Ora was also known as Talbot, and we think she may have died in Sioux City, Iowa. My husband would really like to know about his Mother's real background. Can any one help us? Does anyone know how to contact The Christian Home and on their letter head it says it was known as the Christian Home Orphanage. I cannot seem to even get me a starting point to putting anything together. This is all I have. Thanks so much for any help. Linda

Query: I am looking for information about a possible death of an infant in childbirth that was a twin to Johannes and Mabel Rattenborg of Elk Horn in 1941. Their daughter, Judith Elaine Rattenborg is my mother in law. Her birth certificate has "twin" marked but she was never told about this. There is also a round, bronze marker in the Elk Horn Cemetery between her parent's and a brother's headstones. It is possible it is for an unknown grave. Would any oldtimers in Elk Horn possible remember anything about the family and/or loss of a twin child in childbirth?
