FOLCK CEMETERY
a.k.a. WINDY KNOLL CEMETERY

Center Township, Section 26 (T79, R38)

Floral Divider Bar

Folck Cemetery was established in 1869 and incorporated in 1874. About 12 - 15 people were buried here, with at least 3 removals.

When members of the Harrison County Genealogical Society visited Folck Cemetery in October, 2013 only two gravestones were found to remain.

Several members of the Harrison County Genealogical Society are currently working with the Western Iowa Pioneer Cemetery Association (WIPCA) to identify and document possible grave sites in Folck Cemetery. On October 26, 2013 the WIPCA placed flags at 35 possible grave sites using old fashioned "witching" with a dousing rod, and they are looking into obtaining a ground penetrating radar machine for use in further identifying unmarked graves.

The gravestone of a veteran of the War of 1812, John Folck, was documented as broken in 1937 (see below).

Folck Cemetery aka Windy Knoll

From The Republican, dated Thursday, April 12, 1892:

Sexton J. H. Weeks on Tuesday of this week, exhumed from the old cemetery at Windy Knoll, and brought to the cemetery at Harlan, the body of Christian Goodyear, and three of the infant children of Mrs. Carmichael. The probability is that the remaining six bodies there will also be removed and the cemetery abandoned. The township trustees have levied a tax to fence the cemetery, which will not be needed if the removals are made as contemplated.
