Return to Cemetery Index

The cemetery is described in deed as “The North Three-Quarters of the Northeast Quarter; the East Half of the East Half of the Northwest Quarter except a tract 8 feet wide and 16 feet long situated in the South Half of the East Half of the East Half of the Northwest Quarter reserved for graves in the Deed recorded in Book 49 page 203 Land Deeds; all in Section 8, Township 79 North, Range 5 East of the 5th P.M., containing 160 acres, more or less, according to Government Survey, and subject to public highways.” This cemetery contains the 3 graves of US Army scouts killed by Indians if I am remembering correctly the article describing the description of the original transfer. I am guessing that the spot is 41.664569, -90.404699 based on the description and that spot being farmed around in the middle of the field, which is strange but sensible if a pile of rocks marks military graves in the field.
