This cemetery is located on Rockingham Road in Downtown Davenport, between Division Street and Sturdevant Street. From the Brady Street-2nd Street intersection, head west on W 2nd Street. West 2nd becomes Rockingham Road at Fillmore Street, just past the Oscar Mayer factory. The cemetery has two entrance gates on the left (south) side of the road. Davenport City Cemetery was established in 1843. The first lots became available in late August of 1844. It was the third location chosen for burials in the young city, and the oldest cemetery still in existence today. Many records, including all those from 1844-1857, were lost in an office fire in 1881. A sexton's log covering the years 1857-1881 was found in the city archives in 2008, and is maintained at the Davenport Public Library's Richardson-Sloane Special Collections Center, 321 Main St, Davenport.
