BARGHOLZ SMASHES RECORD

J.M. Bargholz, Davenport's crack rifleman, tore some more records to shreds yesterday at the Eclipse Rifle Club Range. Bargholz is generally expected to pull something out of the ordinary, and it's a sign of stormy weather when his name doesn't top the list when the scores of the regular tournaments are published.

Yesterday Bargholz smashed his own record in the 100 shot by hanging up a score if 2458 out of a possible 2500. His best previous mark was 2457, one point less than his score yesterday. Bargholz has given rival marksmen another target to shoot at, and anyone who feels that he can eclipse that 2458 mark is welcome to chance at it.

Bargholz also led yesterday in the 10 score with 248 out of a possible 250. The scores in the 100 shot targets were as follows:

J.M. Bargholz 2458
Oscar Winkler 2404
Otto Stueben 2398
Ed. House 2397
C. Naeckel 2330
Com. Fetterer 2307

AN UNUSUAL FEAT

Hits Bullseye In Succession Four Hundred Shots at Eclipse Shoot.

The twice a month competition of the Eclipse Rifle club at Bettendorf was shot yesterday under favorable light conditions, although the temperature was rather chilly. The scores did not run as high in consequence, but one remarkable feature of the shoot, was the placing of all the 100 shots in succession in the Bullseye by Julius Bargholz. This is a feat never performed before in Davenport by anyone, and Mr. Bargholz feels very much elated over this. Following are the scores of the 100 shots in a one-fourth inch ring target two inch bullseye at 75 feet, off hand:

Jul. Bargholz 2380
John C Kohle 2339
Ed. Hause 2336

SMASHES RECORDS: ESTABLISHES THREE NEW MARKS AT ECLIPSE RANGE

Scores 2,440 out of Possible 2,500 in 100 Shot Event and Passes Jansen in 10 Shot. Leading all competitors in the Eclipse Rifle club tourneys is a habit with Julius Bargholz, but not satisfied with this distinction he went out and established three new records at the Bettendorf rang Sunday. First Next Bargholz scored 248 out of possible 2,500 on the 100 shot target. The best previous mark was 2,412. Next Bargholz scored 248 out of a possible 250 in the 10 shot event. This beats the record held by Chris Jansen of 247 on the same range. Bargholz's third remarkable feat was a score of 100 straight bull's eye in the 100 shot. It was certainly a grand day for the Eclipse star.

Mr. Bargholz is now the champion of the Eclipse range, and in recognition of his ability he wears a diamond medal. Eclipsing past records is one of the best things that Mr. Bargholz performs, and the members are considering the advisability of changing the name of the club from the Eclipse to the Bargholz, as they are beginning to mean practically the same thing.

The scores on the 100 shot target Sunday were as follows:

J. Bargholz 2440
L. R. Dessaint 2373
E. House 2367
J. P. Schluetter 2315

JULIUS BARGHOLZ SETS NEW RECORD: PUTS 100 STRAIGHT SHOTS WITHIN THE BULL'S EYE

Smashes Mark Set by Chris Jansen on Bettendorf Range Two Weeks Ago-The Scores. Julius Bargholz established a record on the Eclipse Rifle club range Sunday afternoon when he placed 100 shots in succession with in the bull's eye. This is a feat that has never before been accomplished in Davenport, and as a result Mr. Bargholz feels highly elated. It will be remembered that two weeks ago Chris Jensen, another of the crack shots of the Eclipse club, placed 99 out if 100 shots within the bull's eye. His feat stood as a record for the range until Bargholz yesterday smashed all past records. Jansen and Bargholz have been keen competitor ever since they began testing their skill on the Bettendorf range, and though the former has been maintaining a lead most of the time, he must now doff his hat to Bargholz until he ties the perfect score made by the latter at yesterday's session.

The semi-monthly competition yesterday showed the following scores in the 100 shot event on a 1/4 inch ring target, two inch bull's eye at 75 feet off-hand:

J. Bargholz 2380
J. C. Kohle 2339
E. Stouse 2336
St. Lupton 2315
G. Pries 2310
A. Kroeger 2264
J. P. Sluetter 2251
D. Kahl 2248
M. Langer 2244
R. W Petersen 2240
G. Schoening 2036

The outdoor season of the Davenport Shooting season opens up with the first shoot next Sunday at Schuetzen park.
