JOHN ROBERTSON.

Among those who came to Scott County during the year of 1814 was the gentleman whose name heads this sketch. Mr. Robert son was born February 5, 1812, in Renfrewshire, Scotland. He was reared on a farm and received but a common school education, and for a short time prior to his coming to America he kept books for a firm in Liverpool, England. During the year above mentioned (1844) Mr. Robertson, John Pollock, H. M. Thompson and John Grieve, together with their families, emigrated to America and landed in New Orleans, where they took a boat up the Mississippi river to Davenport, where they secured accommodations for their families and they came out to Winfield Township and built a house, in which they all moved later.

March 29, 1895, after several years of ill-health, and having lost his eyesight some six years ago, Mr. Robertson was called away, leaving a widow and six children to mourn his loss, as well as a large circle of friends.
