JOHN THOMAS NOEL.

The subject of this sketch can rightfully be called one of the pioneer settlers of Scott County, for he first saw the light of day in the Village of Davenport, November 27, 1837. He was a son of Adam and Susanna (Lindsey) Noel, natives of Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. Adam Noel, the father of our subject, was a cabinet maker by trade. He came west in the spring of 1835.

John T. received his education at the common schools in Daven port, where he lived until he was nineteen years of age, when he came out into Wintield Township and purchased four hundred and forty-four acres of land on sections three and ten, in the “Wapsi” bottoms. The original tract contained ninety acres under fence; a log house con stituted the improvements. He now owns five hundred and seventeen acres, about half of which is under cultivation.

Mr. Noel was united in marriage to Miss Mary, daughter of John and Mary McGuire, in November, 1860. The fruit of their union was five boys and six girls.
