One of the enterprising and influential citizens of Blue Grass is William F. C. Lewis. Mr. Lewis first saw the light of day in Montgomery County, New York, April 15, 1836, and received his early education in that County. His parents were William J. and Delila (Thatcher) Lewis.
In 1854, when William was but eighteen years of age, he came to Scott County a poor boy, and secured employment by the month on a farm. In 1855 he entered a piece of land in Webster County, Iowa. He moved to Muscatine County and purchased land there in 1864, and continued to reside in that County until 1881, when he moved to the village of Blue Grass, Scott County, and purchased property. He now owns the most beautiful home in the town and has retired from active life.
Mr. Lewis was united in marriage September 23, 1858, to Miss Anna H. Humphrey, daughter of Robert Humphrey. By hard work and economy Mr. and Mrs. Lewis have accumulated a comfortable fortune, and are so situated that they can now enjoy the fruits of their early labors. Their home has never been blessed with any children. Mrs. Lewis is a member of the Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Lewis has never sought office or public favors during his residence in Scott County, though he is a man well qualified for the public service. He has been persuaded, however, to hold some Township offices, and is a director in the Scott County Fair Association.
