    One of the representative farmers of Pleasant Valley Township was Henry Hartz. He was born in Holstein, Germany, October 6, 1839, and came to America in 1868, a poor man, but soon began to accumulate, and what he saved he invested in land, and became the owner of a valuable home.

     He was united in marriage to Miss Anna Meier, to whom seven children were born, all of whom are living. Mr. Hartz died in 1891. He was a member of the German Lutheran Church, and affiliated with the Democratic party.
