The subject of this sketch was born in Mason County, Kentucky, October 8, 1831. His parents were Leander L. and Esther Chapman. Henry C. was reared on a farm and received a common school education. When five years of age his parents moved to Kane County, Illinois, and were among the first settlers of that County, their nearest neighbors being three miles distant. They came to Princeton in 1844 and began farming.
After coming to Scott County Mr. Chapman embarked in farming until 1863, when he engaged in the livery business for seven years. He has since been engaged in garden and fruit growing; also is an auctioneer of prominence. He has held many local offices of trust. In political matters he affiliates with the Republican party, and is a member of the Ancient Order of United Workmen.
