Prominent among the leading Germans of Buffalo Township is Francis X. Beh. He was born in Germany, December 9, 1827, his parents being Francis S. and Barbara (Baumgardner) Beh. He received a common school education in his native home and was reared on a farm.
In 1854 he came to America, landing in New York and going thence to Detroit, overland in a stage. He remained in the latter city for two years, when he came to Scott County and located in Buffalo. In 1868 he purchased a farm of one hundred and twenty acres, on which he now resides. He is now owner of five hundred and forty acres of land in the County, as a result of his thrift and industry. When he landed in Scott County he had a five-dollar gold piece, which was the extent of his capital. He has held many school and Township offices, also was a justice of the peace for ten years. He is a member of the Catholic Church and affiliates with the Democratic party.
