HUSTON

John W. HUSTON was born on Oct 12, 1833 in Perry Co., Pennsylvania. He was the third of five children born to Rev. Thomas HUSTON and Marie “Christena” WOX/WACHS. He married Mary Jane SHEAFFER (d/o David Theodore SHEAFFER and Sarah Frances TITZEL) on Dec 23, 1862 (probably at the Lebanon Church at Loysville) in Pennsylvania. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Peter Sahm of the Loysville Church. Mary was born Sep 24, 1834 in Pennsylvania. John served in the Civil War: "He was in Company C of the 9th Pennsylvania Cavalry. He enlisted in 1864 and served until the close of the Civil War. He was with General Sherman in his famous march from ‘Atlanta to the Sea’, and was wounded at Raleigh, NC." (Ruffcorn Supplement, 1997, p. 38). In July of 1882, “John and Mary Jane Huston moved from Pennsylvania to Sac County and bought 80 acres of land north of where the present Early water tower stands for $35.00 per acre. In 1885 they sold it for $50.00 per acre and bought 160 acres six miles southwest of Early. This farm is still in the Huston family. A cousin, Leslie Huston of

Storm Lake, is the present owner”. (Early Centennial Book, p. 32, printed by The Odebolt Chronicle, 1982). John was a carpenter and built several homes and barns in the Early vicinity. Mary died Mar 30, 1909 and John followed about six months later on Sep 7, 1909. Both are buried in the Early Union Cemetery, Early, Sac Co., Iowa. They were the parents of 6 boys, all of whom settled in the Early area for a time.

David Sheaffer HUSTON was born Mar 25, 1864 in Perry Co., Pennsylvania. David married Mary Lenore RUFFCORN (d/o William Greer RUFFCORN and Harriet Ann HARTLEY) on Sep 6, 1888 in Early, Sac Co., Iowa. Mary was born Jun 13, 1871 near Epworth, Dubuque Co., Iowa. “They farmed the Huston homestead six miles southeast of Early where Vaughn was born in 1899. One year later they bought the farm south of Early where Vaughn now lives and which he has owned since 1944. David served the Early Public School as a board member for 21 years. He was a director of the old State Bank of Early and helped to organize a cooperative elevator.” (Ibid, p32, 1982). He died Dec 1, 1924 in Iowa. He was

She married Robert “Earl” SIMPSON (s/o Arthur John SIMPSON and Ruth SHULL) Dec 24, 1912 in Boyer Valley Twp., Sac Co., Iowa. He was born Oct 3, 1886 in Sac Co., Iowa. Earl died Jan 14, 1966 in Sac City, Sac Co., Iowa. He is buried near Early, Sac Co., Iowa. Ollie died in Oct 1979.They had 2 children:

i) Dale Orlando SIMPSON was born May 16, 1914 in Sac Co., Iowa. Dale married Velma Pearl DOWNS (d/o Jerry DOWNS) Feb 5, 1937 in Sac City, Sac Co., Iowa. She was born Oct 6, 1914. He died Nov 2, 1977 in Sac City, Sac Co., Iowa. He is buried in Oakland Cemetery, Sac City, Sac Co., Iowa. They had 2 children.

Doris Marie SIMPSON was born Jan 15, 1921 in Sac Co., Iowa. She married James Walker SUTHERLAND on Aug 2, 1944 in Randolph, Nebraska. He was born Nov 29,

i) 1906 in Nebraska. James died Jun 19, 1986. He is buried in Coleridge, Nebraska. Doris died Jan 14, 2000 in Laurel, Cedar Co., Nebraska.

b) Vaughn Hartley HUSTON was born Mar 30, 1899 in Cook Twp, Sac Co., Iowa. He married (1) Ruby Alma STOCKS (d/o James W. and Mary A. STOCKS) Feb 1922 in Early, Sac Co., Iowa. She was born Feb 2, 1900 in Iowa. Ruby died Mar 23, 1961 in Iowa and is buried in Early Union Cem., Early, Sac Co., Iowa. Vaughn married (2) Harriet Alice BURNS Mar 31, 1962. She was born Feb 16, 1914 in Clarksville, Iowa. He died Apr 27, 1987 in Sac City, Sac Co., Iowa. He is buried in Early Union Cem., Early, Sac Co., Iowa. Vaughn and Ruby had 3 children:

i) Mary Lou HUSTON was born Sep 10, 1927 in Carroll, Iowa. She married Paul Eugene IVEY Jun 6, 1954 in Early, Sac Co., Iowa. He was born Feb 9, 1928. He died Mar 25, 2003 in Huntsville, Madison Co., Alabama.

ii) Neva Fern HUSTON was born Jun 1, 1931 in Carroll, Iowa. She was stillborn. Neva is buried in Early, Sac Co., Iowa.

David Leland “Hi” HUSTON was born Jan 18, 1906 in Boyer Valley Twp, Sac Co., Iowa. He married Maude Lucetta WAGNER Jan 8, 1930 in Early, Sac Co., Iowa. She was born Jul 5, 1907 in Early, Sac Co., Iowa. “’Hi’ was in partnership with Artie SIMPSON and Cec ENGLER in the Quality Oil business for many years. He retired in 1970. Maude ran a beauty shop for many years. They were avid golfers and fishermen and loved to travel until health problems prevented it. Maude knit beautiful sweaters especially appreciated by her granddaughters” (Ibid, p230, 1982). “Hi” died Jul 12, 1981 in Sac City, Sac Co., Iowa. Maude

a) followed him a short 3 months later on Oct 7, 1981 in Sac City, Sac Co., Iowa. They are both buried in the WAGNER Family plot, Early Union Cemetery, Early, Sac Co., Iowa. They had 2 children.

b) Harriet Avis HUSTON was born Feb 18, 1909 in Boyer Valley, Sac Co., Iowa. She married (1) Verne Ellot ROWLEY Sep 11, 1929 in Elk Point, South Dakota. They had one child. They divorced Sep 10, 1932. He was born Jan 10, 1907 in Iowa and died Feb 1990. Harriet died Dec 29, 2002 in Cherokee, Cherokee Co., Iowa.

i) Joan Elaine ROWLEY was born Oct 31, 1931 in Early, Sac Co., Iowa. She died Jun 21, 1999 in Cherokee, Cherokee Co., Iowa. Harriet married (2) Osroe Charles FUCHS (s/o John FUCHS) Aug 1, 1933 in Omaha,
