BF “Charley” and Ruth Holmberg; Grandfather lived on as a widower in the home until his death at age 92 in 1972.

Stories of yesterday: Grandpa Holmberg designed and built a chicken-plucking machine for the poultry processing plant near Sac; can you recall the name? He designed and built a Panama Canal lock-component during the war; made only one, but to satisfy the Feds, he stenciled on it a number about 10 digits in length. Mom loved to tell that story. Mother and her brother left Sac City to attend Drake University and proceed to marriage and family life in Des Moines and Chicago, respectively.

Mr. Martin mentioned the predecessor to Jerry's Plumbing & Heating
?, 1322 W Main St, Sac City, IA, (712) 662-4091, was Frenchie’s machine shop. The name “Frenchie” echoes as an employee of Grandpa Holmberg at Holmberg Machine and Welding Shop; 1322 West Main was the address for “The Shop.” Before the family got their home at 1108 West Main, they lived up above the shop. Have you more information about Frenchie’s as successor to Holmberg Machine and Welding Shop?

You may wish to view our family history website for further information on the family.
