Rena Scott Swartwood, the daughter of John and Sarah Scott, was born May 22,
1897 in Maloy, Iowa. She died March 20, 1983 at the age of eighty-five years.
Rena moved with her family to a farm near Maloy at the age of three. She spent
her childhood there.
On March 1, 1918, she was united in marriage with Guy W. Swartwood. The couple
lived in and near Clearfield, Iowa.
After leaving Clearfield in 1938, Rena lived in Des Moines, Kansas City and
San Diego, California. Her retirement years were spent in Maloy, Bedford, and
Lenox, Iowa.
Rena maintained a high degree of independence throughout her life despite a
long history of hardships and physical ailments. She will be missed by her
family and friends.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Guy in November, 1932; a son, Robert
in December, 1970; and a brother,Ralph Scott.
Survivors include a son, Guy W. Swartwood of Kansas City, Missouri; a
daughter, Mary Lou Kribill of Moline. Illinois;fifteen grandchildren; twenty
three greatgrandchildren; and two sisters, Ruth Tamerius of Bedford, Iowa and
Ruby Soma of Lenox, Iowa.
Services were held at the Wilson-Watson Funeral Home in Clearfield on
Wednesday, March 23 at 11 a.m. Reverend Jim Turner officiated.
Casket bearers were Eric Sage, Reed Helm, Fred Helm, Dill Rhodus, Steve
Dymond, Mike Swartwood, Robert Swartwood,and Richard Swartwood.
Interment was in the Clearfield Cemetery.
