OBITUARY ~ NORMA JEAN (BEAR) SANDAGER

Norma Jean (Bear) Sandager, 84, born in Mt. Ayr, Iowa and former resident of Grover Beach, California went peacefully to her eternal home with Jesus after being surrounded by her children, grand & great grandchildren on Thursday evening, November 12, 2015 in Thousand Oaks, CA where she had resided almost four years. She graciously battled cancer over the past five years.

Norma was born to Leonard and Audie (Rauch) Bear. She was their only child and had a half brother, Forrest Bear. At the age of fourteen her family moved to Glendale, California, where she ended up meeting and marrying the boy next door, Robert Charles Sandager. They were wed on January 1, 1950 in Glendale and had 59 years together as husband and wife before he preceded her in death on March 22, 2009.

She was a busy homemaker, involved in school projects, church choir & women's ministries. As an energetic consultant for Fashion Two Twenty cosmetics in Northern California, she opened her own studio in Central Point, Oregon. Later she worked in advertising at radio stations KSYC in Yreka and KZOZ in San Luis Obispo. Her last job as secretary at St. John's Lutheran Church culminated her lifelong passion of seeking and serving the unchurched. Her love for The Lord was evident in the way she loved others whether at home, at work or in the community.

She is survived by her children, Alison (Michael) Nelligan, Kristin (Richard) Heiller & Joel (Valora) Sandager; grandchildren Jessica (Kam) Fierstine, Heather Nelligan & Robert Contreras (Maggie Langen); great grandchildren Jakob and Rebecca Fierstine & Harper Contreras.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, November 29, 2015 at 1:00 pm at Saint Johnís Lutheran Church at 959 Valley Rd., Arroyo Grande CA 93420, Pastor Randy Ouimette officiating. Inurnment to follow in Resurrection Garden Columbarium at 2:00 pm and Luncheon in Fellowship Hall at 2:15 pm.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the American Cancer Society or Saint Johnís Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 959 Valley Rd., Arroyo Grande, CA 93420.
