Georgine Frances SWANK was born February 3, 1918 to Agnes and Antone SLAVIK in Ringgold County, Iowa. She passed away September 23, 2007 at the Mount Ayr Health Care Center at the age of 89 years, surrounded by her family.

Georgine graduated from high school at Reading, KS in 1936. In 1937, she moved to Diagonal, IA. Georgine was united in marriage to Lyle SWANK, Sr. on February 26, 1940. They enjoyed their loving marriage of 55 years. Georgine worked at The Rodger’s Café in Mount Ayr, Iowa. With her life long partner, Lyle, they farmed and did custom corn shelling and combining for many years near Benton, IA. Georgine moved to Mount Ayr in 1997.

Georgine’s greatest hobbies included embroidering, gardening, canning, playing BINGO, lottery tickets and word puzzles. She also enjoyed watching her grandchildren in various sports activities. Georgine, also known as "Maggie", was a loving housewife, mother, and grandmother. Maggie's greatest joy in life was being around her family. All of the grandchildren and great grandchildren will remember her big smile and wave when she saw them. Many good memories were made and will leave an empty place that will never be filled. She had a warm, caring personality and an infectious smile which she displaced often.

Georgine was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle; parents and stepfather Frank STREBEL; brothers and half-brothers Gilbert, Maurice, Kenneth, and Glen; mother and father-in-law Lottie and Lewis; five brothers-in-law Lawrence, Bill, Bob, Raymond, and Glen; two sisters-in-law Wilma and Lorrayne; niece Mary Ellen; and a nephew Don.

Left to cherish her memory are 3 sons Lyle, Jr. & wife Mary, Leonard & wife Charlotte, Elvin & wife Cathy; 3 daughters Lila & husband Danny STEWART, Rose & husband John CAMPBELL, Frances & husband Roland JACKSON; 3 brothers Elvyn & wife Doris, Marvin & wife Mary, Leonard & wife Sue; 4 sisters-in-law Margaret, Marian, Ina and Clara. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren Michael, Richard, Travis, and Eric SWANK, Karla Larson, Audrey Shelley, Rick, Kevin, and James STEWART, Dana CAMPBELL-KNIPPER, and Deborah CAMPBELL, Tami CASE, Terri RUBY, April NONG, and Amanda PERRIGO, and two step-grandchildren Arianna JACKSON and Sidney DAVENPORT; 24 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She will be greatly missed by her family.

A memorial fund has been established in her name.

Services were conducted on Wednesday, September 26, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. from Wilson-Watson & Armstrong Funeral Home, Mount Ayr, Iowa, with Rev. Eydie STEPHENS officiating. Musicians were Ina and Butch CHAPIN.

Casket bearers were Michael SWANK, Richard SWANK, Travis SWANK, Eric SWANK, Rick STEWART, Kevin STEWART and James STEWART.

Honorary pall bearers were Karla LARSON, Tami CASE, Terri RUBY, Audrey SHELLEY, Dana CAMPBELL-KNIPPER, Deborah CAMPBELL, April NONG, Amanda PERRIGO, Arianna JACKSON and Sidney DAVENPORT.

Georgine was laid at rest in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Mount Ayr.
