OBITUARY ~ CECIL LEROY SICKELS

Cecil Leroy SICKELS was born April 16, 1903, to E. G. and Belle NYE SICKELS in Worth County, Missuri. At an early age, he
moved with this family to Blockton, Iowa, where he attended school. Later they moved to a farm in the Kellerton, Iowa
vicinity. On December 18, 1928, he and Maxine LANCE were married at the Methodist Parsonage in Mount Ayr, Iowa. They
established their home on a farm near Kellerton. Cecil farmed for 50 years and in that time saw many changes. He was a livestock
farmer known among family and friends for his horsmanship. Cecil enjoyed all children, especially his grandchildren, who
spent many happy days with him. He was also the mainstay for numerous boys who lived, worked and learned about the farm
from him. In 1977, he retired to Mount Ayr because of failing health. In his remaining years, he acquired many new
friends and greatly enjoyed morning coffees with his eight brothers who also lived in Mount Ayr. He passed away at his home
in Mount Ayr on May 5, 1990. Surviving Cecil are his wife, Maxine; three sons, Gene and his wife Marjorie, Bill and
his wife Anne, and Mack and his wife Phyllis; a daughter-in-law, Janet; and a live-in son, Richard and his wife Barbara; grandchildren,
David and Tom, Mike and Amy, Vicki, Joni and John, Julie and Jim and Laura and David. Also, his great-grandchildren,
Adam and Alex; three brothers, Lester, Earl and Don; a sister, Viona; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of
friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Lynn; his parents; his brothers, Rex, Duane, Deane, Roy and Jim; and a sister,
Cleta. Funeral services were held May 7, 1990, from the Wilson-Watson Funeral Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa, conducted
by Rev. Jerry AVISE-ROUSE. Music was provided by Mike GREENE. Casketbearers were Ron SICKELS, Bob SICKELS, Bill
SICKELS, John SICKELS, Larry SICKELS and Alvin SICKELS. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery at Mount Ayr.
