OBITUARY ~ WILLIAM F. SHIDLER

William F. SHIDLER, the eldest son of Frank and Addie McANINCH SHIDLER, was born on Aug. 31, 1905, and departed this life on
July 16, 1983, at Mount Ayr at the age of 77 years. He was born and raised on a farm outside Mount Ayr, and graduated
from high school in Mount Ayr. He graduated from Simpson College [Indianola] in 1928 and did graduate work at the
University of Iowa. He taught and worked in school administration in Iowa for 36 years, retiring in 1971 as high school
principal at AvoHa Community Schools in Avoca, Iowa. He was a life member of the National Education Association, a member
of the Iowa State Education Association, a member of the Iowa State Education Association and was active in many
capacities in professional organizations. He moved back to Mount Ayr in 1975. He was a member of the Mount Ayr United
Methodist Church, the Masons, and the Ringgold County Historical Society. On May 20, 1939, he was united in marriage to
Frances STALCUP. To this union were born three children, George, Sue, and Sam. Frances STALCUP SHIDLER passed away in 1977.
On Feb. 14, 1981 he was united in marriage to Elgin BISBEY, whom he leaved to mourn his death. He was preceded in death
by his parents and a brother, Cyrus Paul SHIDLER. Those who remain to cherish his memory are his widow, Elgin; his
children, George and wife Rachel of Ankeny, Iowa; Sue and husband, Carl SCHUMACHER of Des Moines; and Sam and wife, Bobbye
of Des Moines; six grandchildren: David, Devani, Schott, Jill, Bradley and Matthew; one brother, G. Auldin SHIDLER of
Valparaiso, Indiana; other relatives and many friends. Services were held at Wilson-Watson Funeral Home, Mount Ayr,
Iowa, on Tuesday, July 19, 1983. Officiating were Rev. Ed KAIL and Pastor Milt HENDERSON. Music was by Mrs. Merrill
PERRY and Mark HICKMAN. Casketbearers were Eldon MAIN, Jay MONDAY, Lloyd ANGUS, Mike GREEN, Malcolm EIGHMY and Laurance BISHOP.
Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr, Iowa.
