Graveside services were held March 2, 2001 at the Clearfield Cemetery for
Donald Lee Parkins of Council Bluffs, Iowa. A visitation was held at 11:30
a.m. in Council Bluffs, and graveside services were at 3:30 at the Clearfield
cemetery with Pastor Eydie Stephens officiating.
Donald passed away at the age of 61 on February 27, 2001 in Bergan Mercy
Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska, after suffering a stroke in January.
Donald, the son of Grant and Elda Walton Parkins, was born December 14, 1939
on the family farm east of Clearfield. Donald was known as Don and sometimes
Donnie to his family and friends.
He grew up on the farm where he was born and attended Clearfield School until
he graduated from High School. Don worked in the Des Moines and Cedar Rapids
area for several years before moving to Omaha, Nebraska. While in Omaha he
bought a locksmith business and continued that business until he became ill.
In the 1980's Don bought a small farm east of Council Bluffs, Iowa. He enjoyed
working his farm until the last 2 years. Don enjoyed raising a vegetable
garden the first few years on his farm, giving a lot of his produce to his
neighbors.
Don is survived by his wife Violetta, daughter Susanna of the home; son David
of Jacksonville, Florida; daughter Sherry of Omaha, Neb.; one granddaughter of
Jacksonville, Florida; one sister Geneva Adkisson and husband Lavern of
Clearfield, Iowa; five nephews and one niece; Gerald Adkisson and wife Vanetta
of Bedford, Iowa; Alan Adkisson and wife Diane of Corning, Iowa; Rodney
Adkisson of Knoxville, Iowa; Tracey Adkisson and wife Marie of Johnston, Iowa;
Gordon Adkisson of Diagonal, Iowa; Lori Nelson and husband Brad of Pella,
Iowa.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents Grant and Elda Parkins.
