Roth B. Nevill, son of J. A. (Bert) and Rose Doherty Nevill, was born in
Ringgold County, Iowa near the town of Clearfield on April 25, 1902. He died
at the Greater Community Hospital in Creston on Sunday morning, July 26 at the
age of
seventy-nine years, three months and one day.
Roth spent his early childhood at Argyle in Lee County, Iowa and attended
Hillside School in Ringgold County.
He was united in marriage with Esther Ruth Cole of Diagonal, Iowa on March 7,
1923 at Creston. The couple made their home in Clearfield where they became an
active part of the community.
Roth operated the Clearfield Ice Company and clerked at Harriman's Grocery
during the 1920's. He then operated a dairy farm, hand milking his cows and
delivering raw milk to homes and business places. He later worked with Dr. A.
J.
Abarr, Clearfield veterinarian, before becoming an employee of Spurrier
Service Station in Clearfield in 1942. His health forced him to retire in June
of 1980.
Roth entered the Clearview Nursing Home at Clearfield in December of 1980 and
then moved to an apartment in Creston in early June. He was a patient in the
hospital for observation and tests, however, his death was quite sudden.
Preceding him in death were his beloved wife, Ruth in June of 1979, his
parents and a son-in-law, Marvin Gaule.
Survivors include his daughters, Eula Jean Gaule of Mt. Ayr, Verla Dean Main
and husband, Houston of Amarillo, Texas, and Rosalie Hamilton and husband,
James of Creston; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren, Mr. and
Mrs. Ellis Main and Brent of Amarillo. Texas, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Beadel, Gina
and Bob of Lenox, Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Gaule, Shane and Shilah of Broomfield,
Colorado. Betty Gaule, Joni Azad, Steve Hamilton, Mr. and Mrs. John Hayes, Mr.
and Mrs. Mike Merhoth, all of Creston; two sisters. Lola Knox of Lenox and
Reva Parkhurst and husband, Will of Clearfield, several in-laws, nieces,
nephews, and cousins.
Roth was a loving husband and father. He took great pride in each of his
grandchildren. A true gentleman, he was always willing to lend a hand wherever
help was needed. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Services were held Wednesday, July 29 at the United Methodist Church in
Clearfield at 1:30 p.m. Pastor Kevin Hoffman officiated.
Music was by Patty Parrish, organist, and Carol Ann Kinder, vocalist.
Casket bearers were Richard Spurrier, Gilbert Shaffer, Willis Wurster, John
Combs, Vernie Horton, and Ivan Bennett.
Interment was in the Clearfield Cemetery at Clearfield.
Wilson-Watson Service of Clearfield was in charge of arrangements.
