OBITUARY ~ LELA ELVESSA MAUD MAIN REYNOLDS

Lela Elvessa Maud MAIN REYNOLDS was born March 13, 1906 to Ralph MAIN and Mary Ellen CROUCH MAIN of Redding, Iowa. She
passed away December 6, 1986 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa, after a lingering illness. On
December 2, 1925, Lela was united in marriage to Lloyd F. REYNOLDS. She was preceded in death by her husband, who passed
away January 31, 1979; her parents; three sisters, Hazel, Vera and Vada; and one brother, Raymond. Lela is survived
by one son, Lloyd Max REYNOLDS of Des Moines; one daughter, Roberta FROST of Beaconsfield; one sister, Thelma NAVRATIL
of Plymouth, Iowa; and one brother, Clifford MAIN of Myssa, Oregon; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Lela lived her entire life in Ringgold County. As a girl she helped her father set type and put out the newspaper in
Redding. Her early married life was lived in or near Redding where she and Lloyd farmed, and she was an active
member of the Middle Fork United Methodist Church. About twenty-five years ago they moved to Tingley where Lela was
active in the BY Club and community activities. She was a member of the Tingley United Methodist Church and took care
of the membership roll for the church for many years. She was a faithful worker in the United Methodist Women, serving
in all the offices of that organization. For many years Lela faithfully reported the news from Tingley for the Mount
Ayr Record-News until her illness made it necessary to give up the job. She was also involved in and enjoyed the activities
at the Tingley congregate mealsite, including the Friday Singers and the Tingley Kitchen Band.
Lela always loved her home activities - sewing, crocheting, knitting and piecing quilts. She always had a garden and
loved to grow flowers. We will remember Lela as a care-taker -- for the great care she took for her family and friends,
for Lloyd in his illness, and for her mother. Lela had many friends because she was a friend to so many. Lela was a
loving wife and mother and grandmother, a hard worker all her life, graced with good sense and good humor, loyal in her
friendships and, certainly, steadfast and courageous in adversity. She was a faithful Christian who loved the Lord
and served Him faithfully, always giving of herself. Lela will be missed very much by all who knew her and lovingly
remembered. Funeral services were held December 9, 1986 from the Wilson-Watson Funeral Home at Mount Ayr, Iowa,
conducted by Rev. Jack KENDALL and Rev. Doris HANSON. Music was proved by Mrs. Francis SMITH, Gary WURSTER and John
ALLEN. Casketbearers were David ALLEN, Gerald HAILEY, Clare JOHNSON, QUentin ABARR, Keith LININGER and Wayne
OVERHOLTZER. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery at Mount Ayr, Iowa.
