Lela was born July 7, 1899 in Ringgold County, Iowa to William E. and Elgie M.
Johns. She graduated from the Clearfield High School and has been a lifelong
member of the Clearfield United Methodist Church.
In 1923 Lela married Harry Harman McKelvey. Lela was a homemaker and they
lived in Mt. Ayr, Lenox, Lorimor and Clearfield, Iowa. In 1944 they moved to
Lincoln, Nebraska.
After her husband died in 1983 Lela continued to live in Lincoln. Then in
April 1990 she came back to Clearfield to live at Clearview Home.
Lela is survived by a brother, Emmet Johns of Des Moines, Iowa; a son Bill and
his wife Mabel McKelvey of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, a grandson Gary L.
McKelvey, a granddaughter Susan McGraw and her husband Patrick E. and a great
grandson Sean P. McGraw all of Oklahoma City.
Preceding Lela in death were her parents and her husband.
Lela leaves not only her family but many friends and acquaintances in Lincoln
and Clearfield.
Funeral arrangements were made by Wilson-Watson Funeral Home. Graveside
services were conducted at 11:00 a.m. on December 14, 1998 by Rev. Al Rusk of
the Clearfield United Methodist Church. Burial was in the Clearfield Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Clearfield United Methodist Church, the Fire
Department, the Clearfield Cemetery, or Clearview Home.
