ROBERT LEE LAY
Robert Lee Lay was born June 20, 1940 to Wilbur & Madelyn Keplinger Lay in Ringgold County on a farm south of Mr. Ayr IA.
He died in a traffic accident June 28, 2009 near Platte City MO. He was the second of five children. At a young age he
moved with his family to the farm south of Ellston, IA where he spent his youth. He attended Monroe #3 Country School K-8
and graduated from Mt. Ayr High School. He attended Iowa State University and earned a divinity degree from Ambassador
College in Pasadena CA.
On August 2, 1964 he was united in marriage to Arlene Manbeck. Two children blessed this union. Bob & Arlene later
divorced. He married Kathy Lenox Webbere in December of 1977. They adopted two boys and were foster parents to many more
children. They later divorced.
Bob had many occupations. He was a minister in the Worldwide Church of God in Canada and TN and the United Methodist
Church in Iowa. He managed farm supply stores in IA, KY, and PA. He and Kathy parented foster children in PA and CO.
Before he retired he was a truck driver. The last 19 months he had lived in North Kansas City and made many friends there
in the neighborhood and at the senior center. Bob enjoyed sports, both playing and watching. He cared deeply for people
and had a wonderful sense of humor. He liked to study alterative theories and followed an organic diet. Bob was Christian,
very spiritual and believed in a loving God.
Left to mourn his passing and cherish memories of him are: Four children; Deborah (Trent) Krueger and Rob (Debbie) Lay, both of
Des Moines IA. Tom Lay and Shaun Lay of CO. Two brothers; Ken (Anita) Lay of Fernandina Beach, FL, and Paul (Theresa) Lay
of Des Moines IA, Two sisters; Linda (Ron) Landis of Carrollton Mo and Mary (Roger) Stephenson of Platte City, Three
grandchildren; Sarah Lay of IN, Hannah Lay & Cael Krueger of Des Moines IA., nephews and nieces; Doug, Marla, Kathy, Jason
& Eric Lay, Melissa Blau, Bryan, Rick, James, Ryan & Joe Landis, Kyle, Chad &Todd Stephenson, aunt; Florence Lay of TN,
seven cousins & numerous friends.
Services are 2PM Sunday July 5th at Platte City United Methodist Church. Memorial Contributions can be made to North
Kansas City Senior Center or Harvesters Food Bank.
