Harold Wayne Kerns was born July 8, 1902 at Gravity, Iowa to Joseph Spencer and Carrie Ellen Barton Kerns and passed away on May 19, 1997 in Corning, Iowa at the age of 94 years.

Harold was united in marriage on September 15, 1926 to Maurine Cecile Nickle in Clearfield. To this union were born two children: Donald and Norma Lee. In the early years, he lived in Colorado and worked at a floral shop there. The family moved back to Clearfield in 1949 and remained there until 1976 when Harold and Maurine retired to Lenox. While living in Clearfield, Harold farmed and did carpentry work, as well as work at the Clearfield Hardware Store and help the Varners at the funeral home for 18 years. Harold became a resident of the Clearview Home in Clearfield in 1996.

He was a member of the Christian Churches of Clearfield and Lenox.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Maurine on May 28, 1993, a great-grandson Timmv Richey, a grandson, Dennis Kerns, five brothers: Ray, Walter, Guy, Fred and Harry and five sisters: Amy King, Helen O'Neal, Nellie Huber, Nora Grace and Ruby Atkin.

Left to mourn his passing are his son, Donald and his wife, Vivian Kerns of Grimes, Iowa and his daughter, Norma Lee Black of Lenox, Iowa; his grandchildren: Steve Kerns and his wife, Becky of Clearfield, Suzanne and her husband, Kevin Fink of Rochester, Minnesota, Kevin and his wife, Debra of Omaha, Nebraska and Linda Kerns of Clearfield, Craig Richey and his fiance, Diane of Indianapolis, Indiana, Michael Richey and his fiance, Joellen of Iowa City, Robert Black and his fiance, Brenda and her daughter, Ashley of Bennett, Iowa; his step grandchildren: Michael Pendleton and his wife, Shirley and Mitchell Pendleton and his wife, Debra all of Ankeny, Iowa; his great-grandchildren: Karl, Matt, Evan, Jennifer, Amy Shane and Rachel Kerns and Jessica and Christopher Richey, step great-greatgrandchildren: Nathan, Cody, Courtney and Andrew Pendleton; and several nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services were held Thursday, May 22, 1997, at 10:00 a.m. at the Christian Church in Clearfield, Iowa. Rev. Eydie Stephens officiated. Music was provided by Jean Huffman, Becky Nelson, and Mary Ellen Spurrier.

Casket bearers were Kevin Kerns, Kevin Finck, Craig Richey, Steve Kerns, Robert Black, and Michael Richey. Honorary pallbearers were Michael Pendleton and Mitchell Pendleton.

Interment was in the Clearfield Cemetery at Clearfield, Iowa. Wilson-Watson and Armstrong Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
