Marjorie Rose Ferguson Horton, the daughter of Elmore and Olive Marshall
Ferguson, was born June 16, 1912 in Oklahoma. She died at the Lenox Care
Center in Lenox, Iowa on Tuesday, December 1 at the age of sixty-nine years,
five months and fifteen days.
Marj was raised in the Bedford, Iowa community and graduated from Bedford High
School, She taught country school for one year following graduation.
She was united in marriage with Clyde Carroll "Pete" Horton October 22, 1931.
They spent all but two years of their married life in the Clearfield and
Conway communities.
Marj was employed, along with her husband, for fifteen years by the Clearfield
school system and they also were employed by the Glenwood and Woodward State
Hospital.
Following retirement, the Hortons spent their winters in Texas until Marj's
health failed. They celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary recently.
Marj was a seamstress and enjoyed making things for her children. She will be
missed by all who knew her.
Preceding her in death were her parents, a daughter, Ruth Brown, a sister,
Jean Hughes, and a brother, Bud Ferguson.
Survivors include her husband, Pete; her son, Jerry Horton and his wife. Karen
of Richland, Iowa; a son-in-law, Virgil Brown of Council Bluffs; her
grandchildren, Jackie and Bruce Bierma of Madrid, Iowa, Pat and Chris Garvey
of Omaha, Nebraska, Kelly and Zeny Brown of China Lake, California, Brian and
Debbie Brown of Osceola, Iowa, and Gary and Bobby Horton of
Richland; four great grandchildren, Erika and Shannon Bierma and Jeremy and
Jennifer Brown; two brothers, Carl Ferguson of Cle Elum, Washington and Frank
Ferguson of Braddyville, Iowa; two sisters, Mildred Hilton of San Louis
Obispo, California and Helen Hartman of Clarinda, Iowa; as well as other
relatives.
Services were held Thursday, December 3 at the Clearfield United Methodist
Church at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Roger Graff officiating.
Music was provided by Mrs John Thomson, organist and Darl Bell, soloist.
Casket bearers were Jack Campbell, Morris Hanson, Jerry Ewalt, Arlo Beggs,
Dale Cooper, and Leonard Ratliff.
Interment was in the Clearfield Cemetery at Clearfield, Iowa.
