Robert Harvey, 86, long-time resident of this area, died Nov. 18, 1971 at
Greater Community Hospital in Creston, Iowa after a long illness.
Robert Harvey, son of Joseph and Mary Hannah Harvey, was born on a farm near
Blockton, Iowa, October 18, 1885. In his youth he became a member of the
Christian Church of Blockton where his membership remained.
As a young man, Mr. Harvey spent six years in military service, serving a term
in the Philipines and as a trumpeter for his regiment. After his discharge
from military service, he farmed in Colorado, Arkansas and Iowa. In 1943 he
retired from farming and moved to Lenox, where he resided until his death.
On September 8, 1910, he was united in marriage to Vera Rush who survives him.
Also surviving are four daughters, Mrs. LeRoy Helm of Des Moines, Thelma and
Jean Harvey of Lenox, and Mrs. Robert Barber of Neenah, Wisconsin, six
grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, three sisters and one grandson.
Mr. Harvey had a special fondness for young people and was never happier than
when surrounded by young friends & relatives. During his retirement, he
maintained a special interest in the children of his neighborhood, travel,
extensive home projects and intense enjoyment of his musical instruments.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, Nov. 21st at 2 pm from the Bender
Funeral Home with Rev. Don Briley, pastor of the Lenox Christian Church
officiating.
Bearers were Dale Riley, Lloyd Wood, Carl Spring, Wilbur Rong, Kenneth Riley
and Charles Brown.
Burial was in the Clearfield cemetery.
