OBITUARY ~ MAURICE HENNING HANSON

Maurice Henning Hanson, son of Henning and Lillian Christell Hanson, was born
August 26, 1911 near Stanton, Iowa. He passed away suddenly on November 8,
1999 in Des Moines, Iowa.
Maurice was raised near New Market and in 1936, he married Arlene Hankins and
to this union two children, Sandra and Randall were born. In 1936
Maurice moved to his present farm east of Clearfield. In 1962 Maurice married
Velma Leonard Lind.
Maurice was proud to be a farmer and a livestock producer. He kept active in
the interests of the farm and his community. He enjoyed playing cards,
loved to fish and enjoyed the 17 winters that he and Velma spent in the Rio
Grande Valley in Texas. Maurice was proud of and loved his grandchildren.
Maurice was a member of the United Methodist Church, past Master and 50 year
member of Noble Lodge #458 A.F. & A.M.; 50 year member of Cornelia Chapter
#524 Order of Eastern Star, being a Past Patron in 1974 when Maria was Worthy
Matron; Scottish Rize; Za-Ga-Zig Shrine; Charter member of the Clearfield
Lions Club; he had past involvement with Grant Township as a clerk
and trustee; Ringgold County Board of Supervisors; Ringgold County Fair Board;
Board of Directors with State Savings Bank; past president of Clearfield Phone
Company and a former 4-H leader.
Maurice was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers-in-law,
Donovan Leonard, Marvin Orme and Paul Brummett.
Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Velma; children Dr. Randall Hanson and
wife Carol of Waukee, Sandra K. Whitmore and husband Don of Conroe, Texas, Kay
Thomson and husband Dr. John of Starkville, Miss, and Maria Bickel and
husband Dale of Clearfield; 9 grandchildren, Brent Whitmore and wife Teresa of
Frisco, Texas, Jeffrey Whitmore of New York City, Matthew Hanson and wife
Laura M. and Gregory Hanson and wife Amy of Iowa City, Dr. Daniel Thomson and
wife Cindy of Ames, David Thomson of Council Bluffs, Vincent
Bickel and wife Mary of Gordon, Neb., Brenda Willis and husband Craig of
Benton, Iowa and Brian Bickel and wife Robyn of Clearfield; and 7 great
grandchildren, Eva M. Hanson, Trevor and Austin Whitmore, Hagan Willis, Kelly
Kaitlyn and Tori Thomson, brothers Lorence Hanson and wife Maxine of New
Market, and Dale Hanson and wife Mary Etta of Clarinda, sisters Dorothy
Brummett and Arlene Orme of Shenandoah, and a sister-in-law Rose Mary Leonard
of Clearfield.
Services were held Thursday, Nov. 11, 1999 at 10:30 a.m. at the United
Methodist Church in Clearfield with the Rev. Alan Rusk officiating.
Music was provided by Patty Parrish and Cindy Selim.
Casketbearers were grandsons Brent Whitmore, Matthew Hanson, Dr. Daniel
Thomson, Vincent Bickel, Jeffrey Whitmore, Gregory Hanson, David
Thomson, Brian Bickel and Craig Willis.
Honorary pallbearers were Glen Larsen, Marvin Boyer, Wayne Wilson, J.B. Routh,
Vernon Straight, Darwin Sollars, Joe Stevenson, and Dr. Vale
Thomson.
Masonic rites were by Noble Lodge #458 A.F. & A.M. Interment was in the
Clearfield Cemetery at Clearfield, Iowa.
