OBITUARY ~ LOIS BRECKENRIDGE JENSEN
July 19, 1921 ~ January 12, 2003

Davenport, Iowa - Lois BRECKENRIDGE JENSEN, 81, died Sunday, January 12, 2003, at the Bettendorf Healthcare Center following
a lingering illness.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, January 14, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Davenport, and private burial will be at the Rock
Island Arsenal Military Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. on Tuesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Davenport.
Weerts Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Lois was born July 19, 1921 in Tingley, Iowa to Bill and Lola BRECKENRIDGE. Her father, Bill, owned and operated the
popular BRECKENRIDGE General Store in Tingley, Iowa for nearly 50 years.
Lois graduated from Tingley High School in 1938 and pursued a bookkeeping career with Coleman Company in Wichita, Kansas
and Farm Credit Bureau in Grand Island, Nebraska before relocating to Davenport, Iowa with Farm Credit Bureau in the early
1950s.
Lois was an energetic volunteer for numerous organizations including over two decades of work with St. Luke's
Hospital/Genesis East Medical Center and St. Paul's Lutheran Church. She also volunteered her time and energy for
many years to the Miss Iowa Pageant and Davenport Public Schools. She was a member of King's Daughters, IMA and held
several positions with the Davenport Public Schools including PTA President at McKinley Elementary and city and state
executive tenures. She was also an avid sports enthusiast and followed the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Chicago Cubs, in addition
to enjoying the game of golf and playing cards with several local Davenport bridge clubs.
Lois, and her husband John, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 24, 2001 at their lake home on Rose Lake
near Vergas, Minnesota. The two had originally met in Davenport following World War II, and were married in Tingley, Iowa
in 1951.
Lois is survived by her husband, John Harlan, Davenport, a brother Dean "Bud" BRECKENRIDGE, Tingley; her son Jim, Denver,
Colorado, and grandchildren Jessica, Cody and Jack, Denver, Colorado; her son, Andy and daughter-in-law, Cyndy, Plymouth,
Minnesota, and step-grandchildren Jeb and Jordan ROBINSON, both of Plymouth, Minnesota.
Lois was preceded in death by her sisters Reba ERICKSON, Story City, Iowa, and Jean SKARDA, Tingley, Iowa, and brother
Billy BRECKENRIDGE, Tingley, Iowa.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church or Genesis East Medical Center.
Lois was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend and will be dearly missed by her family and all who knew her.
