OBITUARY ~ ROLLAND GRINDSTAFF


Rolland Duane GRINDSTAFF, also known as "Ron" and "Grinder", was born in Mount Ayr, Iowa on June 26, 1939, to Lester
and Meda (STUCK) GRINDSTAFF. in 1956, Rolland joined the Navy and served as an Aviation Electronics Technician, and
then worked for a short time in road construction. On August 4, 1962, Rolland married Linda LONGFELLOW in Las Vegas,
Nevada. They moved to Los Angeles, California, where he worked for AT&T Pacific Bell and later, AT&T in Kansas City,
Missouri. In 1972, Rolland and his family moved to Clearfield and started farming. Soon, he entered his father's
plumbing business, and later, was joined by his sons, Craig and Kyle. His sons will carry on the family business.
He leaves to mourn his passing his best friend and wife, Linda; sons, Craig and Kyle; very special granddaugher, Katy;
mother, Meda; sisters, Beatrice SCROGGIE (husband Charles) of Peoria, Arizona and Sherry HEBENSPERGER (husband Ken) of
Mount Ayr, Iowa; brother, Dean (wife Ann) of Lansing, Kansas; sisters-in-law Julia DAY (husband Dean) of Blue Grass,
Iowa, Alice MARLEY (husband Jim) of Dallas, Texas; brothers-in-law, Jerry LONGFELLOW of Bedford, Iowa, Paul LONGFELLOW
(wife Anita) of Lenox, Iowa, and 20 nieces and nephews. Rolland was a very loving father and good friend to his
sons, Craig Alan and Kyle Duane. His granddaughter, Katy, was the joy of his life. Rolland's happiest moments were
spent working with his sons, weekends in Kansas City with Linda, discussing sports, and attending Knoxville races. He
enjoyed special times with Katy at Worlds of Fun, parades, the State Fair, and taking her to work when she was visiting.
Rolland also enjoyed his morning coffee at Chicko's with many friends. Rolland was preceded in death by his father,
Lester GRINDSTAFF. Funeral services were held October 3, 1994 from the Christian Church in Clearfield, Iowa, conducted
by Rev. Eydie STEPHENS and Rev. Alan RUSK. Music was provided by Mrs. Erwood HUFFMAN, Mrs. Harold NESLON and Mrs.
Richard SPURRIER. Casketbearers were Jeff LONGFELLOW, Mike SCROGGIE, Carlin SCROGGIE, Gary LONGFELLOW, Aaron LONGFELLOW
and Gerry GRINDSTAFF. Honorary pallbearers were Roy LILLACH, Alan LARSEN, Jeff WOOD, Gaylin BELL, Larry SICKELS, Dwain
CALLIES, Larry GEPNER, Grover MAINS, Chicko HARRISON, Darl BELL, Al BRAMMER, Gary HEIMKE and Richard SPURRIER. Burial
was in the Clearfield Cemetery, Clearfield, Iowa.

OBITUARY ~ ROLLAND GRINDSTAFF

Clearfield businessman Rolland Grindstaff passed away unexpectedly on Friday,
Sept. 30.
He moved to Clearfield in 1972 to farm, and later went into the plumbing
business with sons Craig and Kyle, who will continue the family business of
Grindstaff Plumbing and Heating.
Also known as "Ron" and "Grinder," he was born in Mt. Ayr on June 26, 1939, to
Lester and Meda (Stuck) Grindstaff.
In 1957 Rolland joined the navy and served an as aviation electronics
technician. After a short time on road construction, he married Linda
Longfellow on August 4, 1962, in Las Vegas. They moved to Los Angeles, Calif.,
where Rolland worked for AT&T, Pacific Bell and later AT&T in Kansas City.
In 1972 he moved to Clearfield and started to farm. Later he pursued his
father's plumbing occupation.
Survivors include his wife, Linda; sons Craig and Kyle; granddaughter Katy;
mother Meda; sisters Beatrice Scroggie (husband Charles) of Peona, Ariz.,
Sherry Hebensperger (husband Ken) of Mt. Ayr; brother Dean (wife Ann) of
Lansing, Kansas; sisters-in-law Julia Day (husband Dean) of Blue Grass, Iowa,
Alice Marley (husband Jim) of Dallas, Texas; brothers-in-law Jerry Longfellow
of Bedford, and Paul Longfellow (wife Anita) of Lenox; granddaughter Katy; 20
nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lester.
Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 3, at the Clearfield Christian Church
with Rev. Eydie Stephens and Rev. Al Rusk officiating.
Music was provided by Mrs. Erwood Huffman, Mrs. Harold Nelson and Mrs. Richard
Spurrier.
Casket bearers were Jeff Longfellow, Mike Scroggie, Carlin Scroggie, Gary
Longfellow, Aaron Longfellow and Gerry Grindstaff.
Honorary pallbearers were Roy Lillach, Alan Larsen. Jeff Wood, Gaylan Bell,
Larry Sickels, Dwain Callies, Richard Spurrier, Larry Gepner, Grover Mains,
Cheiko Harrison, Darl Bell, Al Brammer, and Gary Heimke.
Interment was in Clearfield Cemetery with Wilson-Watson Service in charge of
arrangements.
