OBITUARY ~ LARRY GEPNER


Larry Arlen GEPNER was born at Mount Ayr, Iowa on May 3, 1939, the son of Oren and Cleo (HAWLEY) GEPNER. He graduated from
Mount Ayr high school in 1957. In September 1958 Larry joined the U.S. Army. He was a combat construction specialist stationed
in Baumholder, Germany until 1961. Shortly after his honorable discharge in 1962, Larry went to work at the Iowa
Department of Natural Resources. On March 31, 1963 he married Rhonda HINSHAW at Maryville, Missouri. They lived in
Sioux City, Iowa for 10 years and moved to Griswold, Iowa when he was transferred to the Cold Springs office of the DNR
near Lewis, Iowa. Larry worked as a fisheries technician until his retirement on May 13, 1999. Larry loved his job as
it included everything he liked to do as well as being outside. He also enjoyed golfing, hunting and gardening.
Survivors include his wife, Rhonda, of Griswold, Iowa; his daughter, Andrea GEPNER and her fiancee, Don JEDLICKA, of Council
Bluffs, Iowa; his brothers, Karl (Mary) GEPNER of Benton, Iowa, Don (Dianna) GEPNER of Brooklyn, Iowa, and Joe (Darla)
GEPNER of Mount Ayr, Iowa, and his sister, Maryann FRANTZ of Glidden, Iowa. Larry died at the Northcrest Care and Rehab
Center in Council Bluffs on Wednesday, March 21, 2007, at the age of 67 years, 10 months and 18 days. Larry's parents
and brothers, Marvin and Bill, preceded him in death. Services were conducted at the Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold
on Saturday, March 24 with Pastor Celeste WAYMIRE officiating. Musical selections were "Could I Have This Dance" by
Anne Murray and "In the Garden" by Alan Jackson. Bearers were Drue KIRCHHOFF, Pete EVANS, Joe SCHWARTZ, Hank PANGELINA,
Chris LARSEN and Mark BOUCHER. Honorary casket bearers were Dean LARY, Butch REYNOLDS, Ben ROLF, Ed FADA, Merlin MERRITT
and Dean MERRITT. Flower committee was Karen KIRCHHOFF, Sandy TYE and Bert SCHELLBERG. Interment was at the Clearfield
Cemetery, Clearfield, Iowa with military rites.
