Eula Jean Gaule died December 9, 1997 at the Creston Nursing and Rehab Center
in Creston, Iowa at the age of 73 years, 9 months, and 18 days.
Mrs. Gaule was born on February 21, 1924 in Ringgold County Iowa to Roth B.
and Ester Ruth Cole Nevill. Eula Jean was the oldest of three girls.
She attended Clearfield Independent school and graduated Valedictorian of her
class in 1941. After graduation she worked as secretary to the Superintendent
of Schools in Clearfield, then taught rural school one year in Ringgold County
in 1942.
She then moved to Des Moines working as stenographer at the State Department
of Social Welfare while attending Capita! City Commercial College.
On February 18, 1944 she married Marvin A. Gaule at the Clearfield Methodist
Church. To this union were born two daughters, Patsy Luella on 6-18-45 and
Betty Suzanne on 8-13-46. A son, Curtis Dean arrived on 1-25-49. Eula Jean was
an at-home mom while raising their family.
She was active in United Methodist Women, Sunday school, church, school and
community activities.
In the mid 60's they purchased the two story home belonging to Marvin's
parents.
She was employed at Creston Manufacturing Company, stenographer for the Union
County Attorney, and then six years as Deputy in the Union County Auditor's
office.
Five years before Marvin's death she began commuting to Mt. Ayr working first
as a production worker then in the office of Mt. Ayr Manufacturing Company.
The factory closed and she began night classes in business machines,
accounting and computer programming.
With a move to, Creston, she briefly prepared salads and desserts in the
cafeteria at Southwestern Community College. Her final employment began in
1984 at age 65 working part-time at Job Service of Iowa in Creston.
Due to poor health she retired in 1993 and remained active in the Methodist
Church and with the Union County Senior Citizens. She participated weekly in
the spelling at the Creston Mealsite and represented Area 14 four years in a
row at the Iowa State Fair. At age 69 Eula took first place the Older Iowans
Spelldown, of which she was very proud.
Survivors include two daughters, Patsy L. Beadel (significant other Robert L.
Arnold) of Shannon City, Iowa; and Betty S. Gaule (significant other Diana
Davis) of Hesperia, California; a son, Curtis D. (wife Sharon) Gaule of Erie,
Colorado; two sisters, Verla Dean Main of Amarillo, Texas; and Rosalie M.
(husband James) Hamilton of Creston, Iowa; three granddaughters, Gina
(husband Brian) Tener, Shilah Gaule and Heather Brown; three grandsons, Rob
Beadel, Shane Gaule and Marvin Gaule.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in June 1978; son-in-law,
Bill D. Beadel; an infant granddaughter, Cassandra; and brother-in-law,
Houston Main.
Funeral services were held Saturday, December 13, 1997 at 10:30 a.m. at United
Methodist Church in Clearfield, Iowa with the Rev. Alan Rusk officiating.
Music was provided by Maralene Longfellow and Carol Kinder.
Casketbearers were Rob Beadel, Brian Tener, Steve Hamilton, Buckie Stanley,
John Mays, Skip Main. Honorary pallbearers were Marsha Wilson, Dan Pine, Tony
Double, and Jean Richardson.
Interment was in the Clearfield Cemetery at Clearfield, Iowa. Wilson-Watson
and Armstrong Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
