OBITUARY ~ EDITH ELIZABETH (SISSON) GOINS

Edith Elizabeth GOINS was called home to become an angel September 11, 2011. She was surrounded at that moment in time by
her son, Jim, as she made a peaceful passing. Edith was born to Harry and Josephine SISSON May 30, 1923 and was the
eldest of four children. She attended school in Council Grove, Kansas where she graduated from high school. Edith married
Lloyd GOINS on a cold and blustery day, January 30, 1947. They lived in various states as Lloyd was a contractor at
that time building electrical lines throughout the midwest. They moved to Diagonal, Iowa in 1951 where they built a home
to raise their growing family. Edith was a member of the United Church of Diagonal. She enjoyed the days of quilting with
the group and the lunches that they shared. She was very active in the V.F.W. Auxiliary and served as a post commander in
Creston, Iowa. With the closing of the Creston location, she then moved her membership to the post in Winterset, Iowa.
She spent many years as a 4-H leader for the Jolly Jinglers and enjoyed playing cards with the Priscilla Group for many
years. When that group dissolved she then became a member of the Tuesday Club. She began quilting in later years and all
of her children and grandchildren have quilts that they will cherish for many years. Her grandchildren always knew that
they could find cookies at grandma's and that she would always have a container that they could take with them when they
left. She is preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Josephine SISSON; two brothers, Charles SISSON and James SISSON;
her husband, Lloyd; two sons, Rex and Donald, and one grandson, Ron. She is survived by a sister, Dorothy WITTROCK of
Wichita, Kansas; children, Lloyd (Donna) GOINS of Axtell, Kansas, Bill (Nancy) GOINS of Horton, Kansas, Shirley (Ron) JONES
of Joplin, Missouri, Jim (Joy) GOINS of Diagonal, Iowa, Betty (Keith) GREENLEE of Pleasantville, Iowa and Linda (Bill)
VanPELT of Urbandale, Iowa; 16 grandchildren, and 37 great-grandchildren. Celebration of life services were Thursday,
September 15, at the United Church of Diagonal with Rev. John BERAN officiating and Rev. Eydie STEPHENS giving the eulogy.
Music was provided by Judy NEWTON and John ALLEN. Casket bearers were Ryan GOINS, Mike JONES, Mitch JONES, Darin GOINS,
Jesse GREENLEE, David LOTT and David GRANDFIELD.
Burial was in the Diagonal Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the V.F.W. Auxiliary – Attn: Susan Gruber,
921 E. South Street, Winterset, IA 50273 or to the Hospice of Central Iowa, 107 S. Fillmore, Mount Ayr, Iowa 50854.
