OBITUARY ~ DARREL WEAVER FENN

Darrel Weaver FENN, one of five children of Weaver Charles and Bertha BEBENSEE FENN, was born at his parent's home on a
farm west of Carson, Iowa on September 8, 1925. Darrel attended school in Carson and graduated from the Carson High
School in 1944. Following graduation, Darrel worked with his father on the farm until he was drafted into the United
States Army. Darrel was stationed in Hawaii during World War II and worked in the motor pool. He returned home from the
service in 1946 and became acquainted with Betty Mae MARRS of Tingley, IA. Betty was a school teacher in Carson and the
two met often at high school basketball games. Darrel and Betty were married at the United Methodist Church in Tingley
on August 12, 1951. They made their home on the FENN family farm and their marriage was blessed with a son Kevin Charles.
Darrel loved the farm and was an avid conservationist. In 1999, Darrel received the Windbreak Award from the Soil and
Conservation Board for the work he had done on his farm. Darrel and Betty also enjoyed traveling. They followed the
Lewis and Clark Trail across the country and had visited nearly all 50 states including Hawaii and Alaska. Darrel and
Betty also enjoyed a trip to Japan along with other relatives. Darrel was a member of the Community of Christ
of Carson, the Carson American Legion, and the Farm Service CO-OP where he was a past member of the Board of Directors.
Darrel and Betty celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary with family and friends in August of 2001. Darrel's health
forced him to move to the Good Samaritan Care Center in Red Oak, IA on January 18, 2002. He later moved to the Longview
Home in Missouri Valley, IA where he died on April 14, 2002. He had attained the age of 76 years, 7 months, and 6 days.
Darrel was preceded in death by his parents and brother Charles FENN. He is survived by his wife Betty FENN of Carson;
son Kevin FENN and wife Cathy of Carson; sisters Myrtha ROBINSON and husband William, Leona Jean WARD, and Joan SLAGHT
and husband Lloyd all of Independence, MO; brother Carl FENN and wife Linda of Macomb, IL; grandchildren Jon Charles
FENN of Ames, IA, Melissa DANKER of Omaha, NE, and Danielle FENN of Carson; nieces and nephews; other relatives and
friends. Services were held at 2:00 p.m. April 16, 2002 at Hertz Funeral Home of Carson, Iowa.
