OBITUARY ~ DOROTHY HELEN (FLOHRA) DYKSTRA
October 7, 1914 ~ April 18, 2011
Dorothy Helen DYKSTRA, age 96, of Washburn, WI died Monday, April 18, 2011 at Northern Lights Health Care Center in
Washburn.
She was born October 7, 1914 in Union County, Iowa the daughter of Albert & Minnie Mae (SHIELDS) FLOHRA.
She attended school in Ellston, IA and nursing school in Des Moines, IA. On April 3, 1938 she married Sylvannus "Dyke"
DYSTRA Sr. in Lancaster, MO. Dorothy worked as a registered nurse in Des Moines, IA, Grinell, IA and McNary, AZ before
moving to the Chicago, IL area, where she lived for about 30 years. In 1975 she moved to Washburn, WI where she and her
husband owned and operated the Redwood Motel until their retirement.
Dorothy was an active member of Grace Bible Fellowship in Washburn and of the Washburn Civic Club. Her hobbies included
traveling and trailer camping around the United States, Canada & Puerto Rico.
Surviving are her three sons, S. Peter (Gayle) DYKSTRA Jr. of Washburn, WI, Douglas DYKSTRA of Boulder City, NV & John
(Dixie) DYKSTRA of Herbster, WI; five grandchildren, Jeffrey, Jay, Jason, Aaron & Tanya; several great-grandchildren;
nieces, nephews, other relatives & friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sylvannus "Dyke" DYKSTRA on March 25, 1997; two brothers, Donald & Russell
FLOHRA; grandparents; and other relatives.
There will be no visitation or memorial service at this time. A family graveside and inurnment will take place in Iowa
at a later date. Bratley Funeral Home in Washburn, WI is assisting the family with arrangements.
