OBITUARY ~ NICA "MALINDA" CORDELL.

Nica Malinda CORDELL was born in Cedar County, Missouri, Feb. 13, 1844, and departed this life at the home of her
granddaughter [Hettie Jane RUSCO KEMERY] at Kellerton, Iowa, Aug. 6, 1919, aged 75 years, 5 months and 23 days.
She was united in marriage to Irvin CORDELL in 1860. To this union six children were born, all of whom preceded her
in death except John of Maloy, and Jerry, of Athelstan. Besides her two sons, she leaves to mourn their loss, two
sisters, Mrs. Ferbia HINDMAN, of Spokane, Washington, and Mahala JAMES, of Parnell, Mo.; also 13 grandchildren, 13
great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson, besides nieces, nephews and cousins. Her companion preceded her to
the better land seven years ago.
Early in life she united with the Baptist church, and remained a faithful follower of her Master till the end.
She had been a resident of this community for about 60 years.
The funeral services were conducted from the Baptist church at Athelstan August 7, by Challie E. GRAHAM, pastor of the
Isadora Church of Christ, and the remains laid to rest in Athelstan cemetery.
These faithful Christian mothers are one of the greatest assets of any community. God's greatest gift to any boy or
girl aside from Jesus Christ and His gospel is a good Christian mother. We cannot value them too highly or be too
grateful to them and their blessed memory.
The bereaved ones have the sympathy of a host of friends. May they not sorrow as those who have no hope, but trust in
Jesus who is the Way to the Father's house, where all tears shall be wiped away, where Christian fellowships shall be
reunited, and joy gladden our hearts forever.
