OBITUARY - A. A. AGEE
Ari Austin AGEE, son of Austin and Eliza AGEE, was born September 2, 1854, in Patrick county, Virginia. At the age of
16, he started to learn the blacksmith trade, which trade he followed for over 50 years.
September 1, 1881, he was united in marriage to Sallie Jane LEE. To this union were born ten children, eight of whom
survive. In November 1891, he united with the Fort Lewis Baptist Church of Roanoke county, Virginia. Later his
membership was transferred to the Baptist Church at Diaganol, Iowa, and then to the Delphos, Iowa, Baptist Church, where
he remained a devoted member until his death. In November 1892, he moved his family to Blockton, Iowa, residing
there until November, 1894, when he moved to Irena, Missouri. In March of 1903, he moved his family to Delphos, where he
has since resided. He became a member of the I.O.O.F. lodge of Delphos in October 1908. Later, this membership was
trasferred to the Benton lodge. Mrs. AGEE went to her reward, October 23, 1934, and is buried at Mount Ayr,
the final resting place also of Mr. AGEE. [Rose Hill Cemetery] His children who survive him are Mrs. Walter HOUSER
of Sioux Falls, S.D.; Mrs. W. Guyer FISHER of Redlands, Calif.; Jesse of Boise City, Idaho; Austin, of Hastings, Neb.,
Charles and Mrs. A. L. EDWARDS of Sioux City, George of Jefferson, S.D. and John of Delphos, with whom he made his home.
There are also 24 grandchildren, one great-grandson and a host of relatives and friends who are saddened by his death.
He passed away June 26, 1938 at Iowa City hospital, at the age of 83 years, nine months and 24 days.
He was a good Christian, a good father, and was well liked and respected by all who knew him. He will be missed, not
only by his relatives, but by all the community who were accustomed to his genial presence and his friendly interest in
all good things. A long and useful life has been brought to a close, but "Jesus Christ hath abolished death and brought
life and immortality to light" and "life is ever Lord of Death, and love can never lose its own."
Looking back along the years, I can see the hand of God,
Leading me down every road that I have trod
I can see the long steep hills that I dreaded so to climb
Now I know he went with me up there, every time
And I find I walked with Him, when I thought I walked alone
Through those far off shadowed, dark valleys I have known
So today why should I doubt? And today why should I fear?
Crossing the border I look and see that even now my God is near.
