OBITUARY ~ PAUL C. BROWN
Paul C. BROWN was born in Clearfield, Iowa on May 2, 1917. He passed away on December 21, 2002 at Greater Community
Hospital in Creston, Iowa. He was the son of Clarke and Edna BUCHANAN BROWN and was a life-long resident of Clearfield.
He was united in marriage to Lavon McMATH on November 26, 1945. They established their home on a farm south of Clearfield. To
this union was born two children, Terry and Eileen.
Paul entered the Army Air Force February 2, 1942. He was Honorably Discharged
November 25, 1945. During his time of service to his country, he was stationed in Texas and Italy.
When he returned
home from active duty he started farming and continued farming until he retired in 1981. During the winter months he
aslo enjoyed truck driving for Dean LYDDON and Walter OWENS.
Paul and Lavon moved to Clearfield in 1989 and still remained
active with the farming operation until his death.
Paul was a member of the United Presbyterian Church until it closed.
He transferrred his membership to the United Methodist Church and served as chairman of the administrative board for
several years. Some of his other areas of service to his community inclided Lions Club, Amercian Legion, VFW, Clearfield
School Board, member of the cemetery board, and Clearfield Manor board. As a Lions Club member, he enjoyed camping at the
Iowa State Fair and was the chairman of the shuttle bus service for two years.
With his wife, he enjoyed traveling
south during the winter months.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Lavon, son Terry and wife Nancy, daughter
Eileen, seven grandchildren, Brandon, Dominic, Tristin and wife Jenni, Rhett, Tiffany and husband Todd, Leah and Gabriel;
two great-grandchildren, Jackson and Abigail. Other close family members are Thelma BROWN, Bob and Shirley McMATH, Helen
McMATH, Dale and Maralyn SCHLAPIA, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Paul held a special relationship as a second
dad to Allen, Ron, Betty Lou, Kathy and Clint after the death of their father.
He was preceded in death by an infant
brother Geroge, his parents and brother Dale.
He will be greatly missed by all.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m.
Tuesday, December 24, 2002, at United Methodist Church in Clearfield with Reverend Len GARRISON officiating. Musicians
were Patty PARRISH and Chantelle JENNETT. Casket bearers were Allen BROWN, Clint BROWN, Tracy CAMERON, Ron BROWN, Randall
NICKLE and Paul Rogers WHITMORE.
Paul was laid to rest in Clearfield Cemetery, Clearfield. Military rites were
given by Woodside Post #97 American Legion.
