NOTICE of DEATH.

John C. BUTLER, son of Thomas and Rachel BELL BUTLER, was born near Batavia, in Jefferson county, Iowa on May 30, 1858, and departed this life July 26, 1946 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Howard JONES, at Oskaloosa, Iowa, at the age of 88 years, 1 month and 26 days.

A well known retired farm

He is survived by 9 children, 3 sons, Clarence, Charles and Harry, and 8 daughters, Mrs. Edith HEWITT, Mrs. Mabel WILSON, Mrs. Ollie HUGHES, Mrs. Carrie DAHLBERT, Mrs. Nellie PETERSON, all of Lenox, and Mrs. Mary Jane JONES of Oskaloosa. Also 2 brothers, Walter of Creston and William of Lenox, and 1 sister, Miss Lizzie BUTLER of Lenox, 24 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren besides a host of other relatives and friends.

Three sons preceded him in death, Earl, Howard, who died in 1926 and an infant son and, a daughter, Clara. Also one brother, Edward, and 3 sisters, Mrs. Ann Jane HEWITT, Mrs. Mary ROBISON and Miss Rachel BUTLER. A grandson, Lt. Kenneth W. BUTLER gave his life for his country during World War II.

Funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock, July 28, at the Barber Funeral Home in Lenox, conducted by the Rev. Earl MONEYMAKER of the United Presbyterian church. He was laid to rest in the Morgan cemetery near Kent. Pallbearers were six of his grandsons, Ray HEWITT, Paul BUTLER, Randall WILSON, Wendell WILSON, Eldon JONES and Charles PETERSON.
