OBITUARY ~ KATHRYN J. (SHAY) BLISS

Mrs. Katherine J. "Kay" BLISS, 87, formerly of 544 Irwin St., Galesburg, died at 8:24 AM Friday, January 07, 2005 in Seminary Manor.

She was born October 6, 1917 on her family's farm in Maloy, Iowa, the daughter of Dennis and Monica O'CONNOR SHAY. She married James F. "Jim" BLISS on October 6, 1951 in Creston, Iowa. He preceded her in death on January 26, 1997.

Surviving is a daughter, Kim (and Steve) LEFORT, Cameron, IL, a brother, Dr. Dennis SHAY, Des Moines, Iowa, 3 grandchildren, and 1 great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by 2 sisters.

She was a secretary for the State of Iowa from 1935 to 1941. She then was a secretary for the United States government from 1941 to 1947 in Seattle, WA, Des Moines, Iowa, and St. Louis, MO. In 1947 she moved to Creston, Iowa, where she worked for Menzers Ready Wear until her marriage and moving to Galesburg in 1951. She graduated from Maloy (IA) High School in 1934. She graduated from Capital City Commercial College in Des Moines, IA in 1935.

She was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Galesburg, where she was a former member of its Altar and Rosary Society.

Funeral will be 1:30 PM Tuesday in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. William MILLER will officiate. Visitation will be 12:30 to 1:30 PM Tuesday at the chapel. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Memorials can be made to the Alzheimer's Disease Association.
