The Ringgold Record, 1890

OBITUARY - ROBERT BARNES

Robert Barnes was born at Heath and Reach, Old England, February 19, 1823. When a child he gave his heart to the Master and joined the M.E. church in 1835. He married Miss M. A. CLARK July 22, 1856, moved to America in 1857 and to Ringgold county in 1859. He has faithfully labored in the Master's vineyard and by his godly example he has been the instrument in the hands of God in calling many from darkness to light, hence we are confident that his crown will be thickly studded with diadems of rejoicing. If every professor would be as faithful as Father BARNS (sic) has been, Zion would put on her strength, her borders would be enlarged and the wilderness would bloom as the rose.

December 21st, 1890, the death angel called Father BARNES to his reward. Brother THOMPSON, of Mount Ayr, preached the funeral in the church at Benton. He was buried at the Marshalltown cemetery.
- D. R. GLEASON.

NOTE: Robert's wife, Mary A. (CLARK) BARNES died April 27, 1910 and was interred at Marshalltown Cemetery near Benton, Ringgold County, Iowa.

Transcription and note by Sharon R. Becker, 2008
