Hold Final Rites Monday For Gertie Abarr

Funeral services for Mrs. Ralph [Gertrude] ABARR, 83, lifetime Taylor County resident, were held October 28 at the Bedford Christian Church, conducted by Rev. Ivo Randels and Rev. John D. Kerr. Mrs. ABARR died October 26 in Clarinda Municipal Hospital. Interment was at Fairview Cemetery [Taylor County].

Gertrude Emma ABARR, daughter of James and Flora HINSHAW TURNER, was born September 27, 1885, in Taylor County, Iowa near Platteville. She lived her entire life in Taylor County.

At an early age she became a member of the Christian Church and remained active and dedicated as long as health permitted.

On March 5, 1905, she was married to [William] Rolland (sic, should be Rollin) WILDMAN who passed away in 1946. No children were born to this union.

In 1949 she was married to Dr. Ralph ABARR [formerly of Redding] who also preceded her in death.

For many years Gertie owned and operated a Beauty Shop in Bedford.

She is survived by two brothers, Joe and Doug TURNER of Bedford, a sister, Mrs. Iva JOHNSON of St. Peter, Minn.; three sisters-in-law, Mrs. Joe TURNER and Mrs. Carrie TURNER of Bedford, Mrs. Sadie TURNER of Denver, Colo., two step-daughters, Mrs. Francis AMRINE of Blockton, Mrs. Jean GUERNSEY of Des Moines, Ia.; three step-grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews; 8 great-great nieces and nephews of whom she was extremely fond.

Gertie was very kind and helpful, always anxious to do what she could wherever there was need. Her family was dear to her as well as her many friends. She was a warm and outgoing person, generous to a fault, exceedingly faithful to her church and loyal to her pastor. Her heart went out to the sick, the lonely, the needy, and her purse followed her heart.
