Platte River Cemetery is located off County Highway J-43 1 ¼ mile west of Maloy in Benton Township of Ringgold County, Iowa.

The land for Platte River Cemetery was donated by John DALE, an early settler in Benton Township, before he sold his property to Luke SHAY in 1867. It has been in continuous use since that time. - Maloy Centennial Book, page 6

Maloy News

by Liz Lynch

David and Nancy LYNCH are the caretakers for the Platte River Cemetery west of Maloy. David likes to mow there and he reads the names and dates on the stones. He said he had learned that the first person buried in that cemetery was Robert MOORE, born in 1799. He died in 1859 and that is the year the plot was opened and fenced as a burial area. Some refer to this as the Shay Cemetery because Mr. SHAY donated the land for it.
