Abbott, Edwin J. – served as a Private in Company K, 135th Ohio Infantry, enlisted May 2, 1864, mustered out Sep 1, 1864 with company (enlisting for 100 day regiment).  He was born Sep 27, 1841 in London, England and died Jan 6, 1920 in Council Bluffs.

Adams, Charles Francis – served as a Corporal in Company K, 18th Illinois Infantry, enlisted May 28, 1861.  He was born Aug 27, 1843 in Logan, Ohio and died Jan 16, 1910 in Marshalltown, Iowa.

Agnew, George W. – served as a Private in Company H, 103rd Illinois Infantry, enlisted Aug 11, 1862, mustered out June 21, 1865 as a Corporal.  He was born in 1845 in Pennsylvania and died in Council Bluffs, buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Albert, Chester H. – served as a Private in Company K, 153rd Pennsylvania Infantry, mustered Oct 11, 1862, discharged Apr 16, 1863.  He was born Nov 10, 1840 and died Oct 4, 1914 in Council Bluffs, burial in Walnut Hill Cemetery.

Alberti, Oscar Otto – served as a Quarter Master Sergeant in the 13th U.S. Infantry, the 22nd U.S. Infantry and possibly Company B, 6th Missouri Infantry.  He was born Jan 16, 1818 in Geneva, Switzerland and died Jan 12, 1900 in Garner Township, Pottawattamie County.

Alexander, Harvey – served as a Private in Company D, 166th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, enlisted May 2, 1864 mustered out Sep 9, 1864 at Camp Cleveland, Ohio.  He was born Dec 10, 1845 in Leroy, Madison County, Ohio and died Oct 30, 1936, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Allen, Josiah B. – served as a Private in Company E, 7th Illinois Infantry, enlisted Oct 1, 1864. He was a prisoner of war in St Louis, MO, May 14, 1865.

Aten, John – served as a Private in Company F, 82nd Ohio Infantry, enlisted Dec. 26, 1861 in Company K, 82nd Ohio Infantry, transferred to Company F, captured July 1, 1863 at the Battle of Gettysburg, Penn., mustered out Jan. 27, 1865 at Columbus, Ohio at expiration of term. He was born Aug 7, 1844 in Allegheny City, Penn., died July 21, 1905 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Atkins, John B. – served as a Sergeant in Company A, 1st New Mexico Infantry, enlisted in 1861 and mustered out in 1864 under the command of Kit Carson and General Canby. He was born May 29, 1835 in Michigan, died Dec. 5, 1903 in Los Angeles, Calif., and buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Austin, Alpheus – served as a Sergeant in Company I, 50th Illinois Infantry, enlisted Sept. 16, 1861 and mustered out Sept. 27, 1864 as a Private.  He was born Oct. 19, 1842 in Ohio and died July 10, 1897 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Babbitt, Charles H. – served as a Private in the 3rd Battery, Iowa Light Artillery.  He was age 21 and a resident of Pottawattamie County, Iowa when he enlisted on Nov. 5, 1864. He was born in Iowa.

Baggart, Frederick – served as a Private in Company M, 2nd Illinois Light Artillery, enlisted March 27, 1862, transferred to the U. S. Navy, April 1, 1865.  He was born in 1844 in Switzerland, died in Council Bluffs, Iowa and buried in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Bailey, George M. – served as a Captain in Company D, 5th U. S. Infantry, enlisted July 2, 1861 as 2nd Lieutenant, 1st Alabama Cavalry, discharged as Captain in 5th U. S. Infantry, promoted to Captain on April 12, 1865. He was later promoted to Brevet Major & Lieutenant Colonel in 1866 for meritorious service in an Indian campaign. He was born Aug 12, 1843, died Aug 30, 1909, and buried in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Baker, William Frederick – served as a Captain in Company D, 9th Maine Infantry, enlisted Aug 23, 1861 for three years, mustered out as Major on March 20, 1863. He was born June 9, 1836 in Moscow, Maine, died May 2, 1917 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and buried in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Barnes, Henry C. – served as a Private in Company H, 6th Iowa Infantry. He was 18 and a resident of Keokuk, Iowa when he enlisted on July 12, 1861. He was born in 1843 in New York and is buried in Oakland Cemetery, Keokuk, Iowa. He joined the Lincoln G.A.R. Post # 29 in Council Bluffs, Iowa on April 20, 1882.

Basch, Theodore – served as a Private in Company F, 10th Missouri Cavalry, enlisted April 12, 1862 as a Private in Company F, 5th Missouri Cavalry, and discharged April 12, 1865.  He was born in Frankfort, France, died June 13, 1921 in Mitchel, South Dakota, and buried in Calhoun Cemetery, Calhoun, [Harrison County], Iowa.

Battin, Bazel D. – served as a Private in Company B, 33rd Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry, mustered in on Aug. 13, 1862 and mustered out as a Corporal on Aug. 9, 1865.  He was born in Harrison County, Ohio and was buried in Ida Grove Cemetery, Corwin Township, Ida Grove, Iowa.

Beck, William H. – served in Company F, 23rd New York Infantry, enlisting at age 18 on May 16, 1861 in Elmira, New York and mustered out with his company on May 22, 1863 at Elmira, New York.  He was born in 1841 in Pennsylvania, died July 2, 1911 at Lane Manawa, Iowa and was buried in Fairview Cemetery (in the G. A. R. Circle), Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Beckman, Charles J. – served as a Corporal in Company K, 13th Illinois Infantry, enlisted May 24, 1861 as a Private, and lost an arm during the War.  He was discharged March 10, 1864.  He died in February 1912 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Becroft, Robert – served as a Private in Company A, 29th Iowa Volunteer Infantry, enlisted at age 17 on Aug. 14, 1862 as a Drummer. He was born July 23, 1848 in England, died Feb. 12, 1910 in Clarinda, Iowa, and was buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Beverly, Stanford – served as a Private in Company F, 87th Indiana Infantry, mustered in on Aug. 8, 1862, transferred to Veteran’s Reserve Corp on Feb. 15, 1864.  He was born in 1828 in North Carolina, died Sept. 21, 1903 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and buried in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Bickford, Daniel C. – served as a Private in Company M, 4th Michigan Cavalry, enlisted at age 31 on Aug. 4, 1862 at Niles as a Corporal, and discharged March 26, 1863 on disability at Louisville, Kentucky.  He was buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Blue, David L. – served as a Private in Company A, 174th Ohio Infantry, enlisting July 26, 1864 at age 18, and mustered out with his company on June 28, 1865.  He was born in 1846 at Wyandotte County, Ohio, died Sept. 16, 1926 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Bodurtha, Henry J. – served as  a Private in Company B, 46th Iowa Volunteer Infantry, enlisting at age 18 on  May 23, 1864.  He was born Aug 3, 1845 in Massachusetts, died May 11, 1923 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and buried in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Bolin, James J. – served as a Private in Company I, 3rd Missouri Cavalry, enlisted Aug. 23, 1861 and discharged Dec. 31, 1864.  He was born in Jackson County, Illinois, died in Council Bluffs, Iowa and buried in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Bone, James – served as a Private in Company D, 31st Ohio Infantry, enlisting at age 26 on Aug. 28, 1861 and mustered out at the expiration of his term on September 19, 1864.  He was born Nov. 28, 1834 in Jefferson County, Ohio, died Nov. 3, 1906 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and was buried in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Bonham, Alonzo M. – served as a Private in Company K, 55th Illinois Infantry, enlisted Oct. 22, 1861 and mustered out Oct 31, 1864.  He was born in Illinois and his occupation was farmer. His wife’s name was Martha A. Bonham and his children included: Centenial, Jay J. and Clara B.

Bonham, Barney A. – served as a Private in Company D, 7th Illinois Cavalry, enlisted Sept. 7, 1862 and mustered out May 30, 1865.  He was born in Fleming County, Kentucky on Aug. 30, 1836, died on Jan. 25, 1908, and was buried in Clark Cemetery, Kane Township, Pottawattamie County, Iowa.

Boquett, Theodore – served as a Private in Company K, 29th Michigan Infantry, enlisted in Flint, Michigan on Sept. 13, 1864 for three year service at age 16.  He was mustered out on Sept. 6, 1865 at Murfreesboro, Tenn.  He was born Aug. 8, 1848 in New York and died May 10, 1926 in Miami, Florida.

Bowers, Eli C. – served as a Private in Company E, 155th Pennsylvania Infantry.  He was mustered in to Company H, 62nd Pennsylvania Infantry on Feb. 14, 1862, transferred to Company E, 155th Pennsylvania Infantry on July 2, 1864, and discharged on the expiration of his service term.  He was born Nov. 17, 1837 at Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, died April 11, 1932 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and buried in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Bowers, George B. – served as a Private in Company E, 14th Pennsylvania Cavalry, enlisted Nov. 23, 1862 in Company E, 14th Penn. Cavalry, transferred to Company D, 14th Penn. Cavalry on July 11, 1865, and discharged Aug. 21, 1865. He died Feb. 12, 1884 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and was buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Bradbury, William H. – served as a Corporal in Company B, 1st Illinois Artillery. With his residence in Chicago, he enlisted Aug. 6, 1862 and assigned to new Battalion A.

Bray, Theodore – served in Company E, 27th New York Infantry.  He enlisted April 14, 1861 in Harris Light Cavalry under General Judson Kilpatrick and mustered out in 1865 in Washington, D. C.  He was born Feb. 19, 1841 in Jersey City, New Jersey, married Jacyntha A. Allen and had two children: Charles W. and Nettie A.

Brinton, Sylvanus G. – served as a Sergeant in Company K, 8th Connecticut Infantry, enlisted Feb. 23, 1864, wounded May 16, 1864 at Fort Darling, Virginia, and discharged May 9, 1865 for disability.  He was born Dec. 9, 1844.

Broadway, Charles – served as a Private in Company E, 10th Iowa Volunteer Infantry. He enlisted Aug. 24, 1861, with his residence in Yatton [Washington County, Iowa], was discharged and reenlisted as a Veteran on Jan. 1, 1864.  He was born in Massachusetts.

Brooks, Edward F. – served as a Sergeant in Company K, 128th Indiana Infantry.  With his residence in Logansport, Indiana, he mustered in on March 7, 1864 as a Sergeant and mustered out April 10, 1866.

Brown, Bird – served as a Private in Company K, 39th Iowa Volunteer Infantry, enlisting on Aug. 22, 1862 at age 18 with his residence listed as Decatur County, Iowa.  He was born in Ohio in 1844 and buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Brown, Daniel O. – served as a Private in Company H, 8th Michigan Infantry, enlisting at age 17 for three years on Dec. 29, 1863. He was wounded in action at Wilderness, Virginia, in May 1864 and mustered out at Delaney House, Washington D. C. on July 30, 1865.  He was born June 23, 1845, died March 23, 1923 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Brown, Hugh – served as a Private in Company C, 13th Missouri Infantry. He enlisted July 1, 1861 in Company C, Van Horn’s Battalion Cavalry Volunteers at Kansas City, Missouri age 34 and mustered out on Oct. 29, 1861 at St. Joseph, Missouri.  He was born in Pennsylvania, died in Council Bluffs, Iowa and his occupation was contractor and builder.

Buffington, William H. – served as a Private in Company A, 7th Indiana Infantry. With his residence in Dearborn County, Indiana, he was mustered in on Sept. 13, 1861, serving a three year term, and mustered out Sept. 20, 1864.

Burgess, Charles M. – served as a Private in Company A, 3rd Wisconsin Infantry. While he was living in Bristol, Wisconsin, he enlisted into the service Jan. 30, 1864 and mustered out July 18, 1865.  He was born in New York on March 24, 1837, died in Council Bluffs, Iowa on March 12, 1913 and buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Burke, Alexander J. – served as a Corporal in Company G, 1st Nebraska Infantry. While living in Omaha, Nebraska, he enlisted at age 26 as a Sergeant on June 30, 1861.  He was reduced in rank, discharged, and reenlisted Jan. 1, 1864, promoted to Corporal on Jan. 1, 1865, and discharged on Oct. 22, 1865 on a disability.  He was born in Ireland in 1830, died in Council Bluffs, Iowa and buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Bushnell, Joseph P. – served as a Private in Company D, 44th Iowa Volunteer Infantry. While living in Iowa City, Iowa, he enlisted May 18, 1864 at age 20.  He was born in 1845 in Kimball County, Ohio, died May 1, 1927 in Des Moines, Iowa, and buried in Woodland Cemetery, Des Moines, Iowa.

Cade, Martin – served as a Private in Company E, 51st Illinois Infantry.  He enlisted Oct. 29, 1861 and later reenlisted as a Veteran.

Cady, T. Jasper – served as a Farrier in Company B, 2nd Iowa Cavalry. He enlisted July 30, 1861, promoted to Farrier on Oct 15, 1862. He reenlisted as a veteran on March 1, 1864 and promoted to Veterinary Surgeon on April 22, 1865. He was born Jan. 14, 1840 in New York, died Oct. 19, 1912 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Campbell, William H. – served as a Captain in Company C, 4th Iowa Volunteer Infantry. He enlisted June 26, 1861 as a 5th Corporal, reenlisted Jan. 25, 1864, wounded May 29, 1864 in Dallas, Georgia, and promoted to Captain Nov. 11, 1864. He was born in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1842, died May 11, 1925 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Carson, George – served as a Private in Company K, 12th Indiana Infantry, recruited Oct. 7, 1861 and mustered out May 19, 1862.  He was born Feb. 5, 1841, Jennings County, Scipio, Indiana, died Feb. 18, 1919 in Council Bluffs, and buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Carter, George W. – served as a Private in Company G, 18th Pennsylvania Cavalry, mustered in Sept. 3, 1864 and honorably discharged by General Order.  He was born in Ohio and died Sept. 9, 1924 in Council Bluffs, Iowa with burial in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Carter, Patrick John – served as a Corporal in Company D, 39th Ohio Infantry. At age 18 he enlisted on July 13, 1861, transferred to Company D, 39th Ohio Infantry on March 3, 1964 and mustered out on Aug. 12, 1864 at the expiration of his service term, in Cincinnati, Ohio.  He was buried in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Case, Charles W. – served as a Private in Company D, 1st Wisconsin Heavy Artillery. He enlisted Sep. 17, 1863, promoted to Corporal and Sergeant, and mustered out Aug. 18, 1865.

Case, Gordon O. – served as a Private in Company I, 29th Ohio Infantry, enlisted at age 19 on Nov. 15, 1863, and mustered out with his company on July 13, 1865.  He was born Dec. 16, 1844 in Ohio, died Jan 5, 1914 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Casey, Eugene – served as a Private in Company K, 30th Illinois Infantry, was a resident of Trenton, Illinois when he enlisted Feb. 16, 1864.  He mustered in April 9, 1864 and mustered out July 17, 1865.

Casper, Lorenzo A. – served as a Private in Company B, 90th Illinois Infantry. As a resident of St. Rose, Wisconsin, he enlisted Aug. 28, 1862, mustered in on Sept. 6, 1862, and discharged on Nov. 8, 1862. He was born Feb. 29, 1844, died June 19, 1915, and was buried in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Cavett, Andrew J. – served as a Private in Company K, 7th Iowa Cavalry. He enlisted Sept. 20, 1861, reenlisted on Feb. 29, 1864 as a Veteran (age 22, residence, Iowa City, Iowa), transferred to Company K, 7th Iowa Cavalry Reorganized.  He was born Aug. 16, 1841 in Ohio, died Oct. 14, 1919 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and buried in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Chamberlin, Lewis E. – served as a Private in Company G, 47th Iowa Volunteer Infantry. His residence was Johnson County, Iowa when he enlisted at age 18 on May 17, 1864. He was born June 3, 1847 in North Liberty, Iowa, died on Feb. 11, 1914 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and buried in Ridgewood Cemetery, North Liberty, Iowa.

Chamberlain, Myron H. – served as a Private in Company D, 20th Ohio Infantry. He was age 19 when he enlisted on Feb. 17, 1865 and mustered out with his company on July 15, 1865 by order of the War Department.  He was a Physician, born in New York in 1845.

Chambers, Hamlin J. – served as a Private in Company H, 1st Minnesota Battalion. He was 16 when he enlisted April 7, 1865, was discharged in a hospital July 14, 1865 and served from Minnesota in Civil and Indian Wars.  He was born July 20, 1849 in Michigan, died April 30, 1927 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and buried in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Chase, Abner S. – served as a Private in Company D, 1st Kansas Infantry. He was 18 years old when he enlisted June 3, 1861 at Leavenworth, Kansas, was discharged Feb. 5, 1862 for a disability by a surgeon’s certificate in Leavenworth, Kansas, but was on the muster roll dated June 16, 1864.  He was born about 1843 in Vermont, died May 22, 1914 at the Iowa Soldier’s Home and Marshalltown, Iowa and buried in Marshalltown, Iowa.

Clancy, Daniel – served as a Private in Company L, 4th Iowa Cavalry. He was age 19, residence, Burlington, Iowa, when he first enlisted Sept. 2, 1861, was paroled and reenlisted as a veteran on Dec. 12, 1863. He was born in 1842 in Ireland, died March 27, 1921 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and buried in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Kane Township, Pottawattamie County, Iowa.

Clark, Adelbert J. – served as a Private in Company F, 49th Wisconsin Infantry. He enlisted Feb. 18, 1865 and mustered out Nov. 8, 1865.

Clark, Daniel B. – served as a Captain in Company H, 15th Iowa Volunteer Infantry. He was age 42 and a resident of Council Bluffs, Iowa when he enlisted, and appointed Captain Dec 13, 1861, and resigned June 7, 1862 in Corinth, Mississippi.  He was born Jan 4, 1819 in Batavia, New York, died Oct. 1, 1897 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and buried in Clark Cemetery, Kane Township, Pottawattamie County, Iowa.

Clark, John Harrison – served as a Captain in Company H, 10th Iowa Infantry. He was a resident of Rippey, age 21, when he enlisted Aug. 23, 1861, and promoted to Captain Aug. 11, 1863.  He was born Aug. 6, 1840 in Ripley, Illinois, died Oct 11, 1914 from suicide in Council Bluffs, and buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Clark, Morris W. – served as a Captain in Company C, 11th Iowa Volunteer Infantry, enlisted Sept. 23, 1861 as 5th Sergeant, was discharged, reenlisted as a veteran on Jan. 1, 1864, and promoted to Captain July 23, 1864.  He was born in Indiana on May 28, 1837, died Jan 20, 1911 in Omaha, Nebraska, and buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Clay, Henry – served as a Private in Company D, 18th New York Infantry. He was 20 years old when he enlisted April 30, 1861 at Middletown, N.Y., mustered in as a Private to serve two years, mustered out with his company on May 28, 1863 at Albany, New York.  He was born in Virginia.

Coffeen, Henry – served as a Private the 1st Iowa Battery of Light Artillery. He was age 18, a resident of Polk County, Iowa when he mustered in on Jan. 4, 1864 and mustered out July 5, 1865 in Davenport, Iowa.  He was born in Indiana and died in Leavenworth, Kansas, buried in the Soldier’s Home there.

Coffield, William – served as a Private in Company L, 1st Regiment Missouri Cavalry as an Artificer [Surveyor]. He enlisted March 14, 1862 at St. Joseph, Missouri, and discharged for a disability on Nov. 5, 1863. He was born in 1830.

Coghlin, John – served as a Private in Company K, 55th Illinois Infantry, and enlisted Oct. 22, 1861. He was born in Ohio, died Oct. 2, 1897 at the Iowa Soldier’s Home in Marshalltown, Iowa and buried at the Iowa Soldier’s Home in Marshalltown, Iowa.

Cole, George E. – served as a Private in Company E, 2nd Massachusetts Heavy Artillery.  As a resident of Cambridgeport, Massachusetts, age 27, he enlisted June 23, 1864, promoted to Sergeant Major on Nov. 16, 1864, commissioned to 2nd Lieutenant on March 29, 1865, and mustered out Sept. 3, 1865.

Cole, Zachariah W. – served as a Private in Company E, 9th Iowa Cavalry.  He was a resident of Millersburgh [Iowa County, Iowa], age 21, when he enlisted Oct. 1, 1863.  He also served as a Wagoner in Company D, 18th Iowa Infantry. He was born in Illinois in 1843 and died April 27, 1914, occupation, Marble Dealer.

Conley, Albert G. – served as a Private in Company D, 47th Illinois Infantry. He was a resident of Osceola [Clarke County, Iowa] when he enlisted on Aug. 16, 1861 and discharged for disability on May 30, 1862. He died on Nov. 22, 1932.

Cook, Andrew J. – served as a Private in Company E, 37th Indiana Infantry, mustered in Oct 20, 1861, and transferred to Veterans Reserve Corp on July 30, 1864.  He was born Aug. 24, 1841 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, died Aug 12, 1913 in Council Bluffs and buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Cook, George – served as a Private in Company A, 113th Illinois Infantry.  As a resident of Chicago, he enlisted Aug. 14, 1862, and mustered out June 20, 1865.  He was born Nov. 13, 1836 in Connecticut, died Dec 13, 1900 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and buried in Griswold, Iowa, occupation, Mason.

Cooper, John King – served as a Private in Company D, 1st Maryland Infantry. He enlisted Sept. 29, 1864, transferred to Company G, 11th Maryland Infantry, and mustered out June 15, 1865. He was born April 1, 1845, died July 26, 1931 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Corbin, George D. – served as a Private in Company I, 5th Tennessee Infantry, enlisted at age 18 on Jan 1, 1865 and mustered March 23, 1865.  He was born in Georgia.

Cousins, Levi B. – served as a Private in Company B, 41st Ohio Infantry. At age 18, he enlisted on Aug. 20, 1861 and discharged with a disability on March 9, 1862. At age 19, Jan 5, 1864 he served in Company F, 105th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, and at age 21 transferred Jan 1, 1865 as a Private in to Company E, 38th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, absent on furlough June 15, 1865, and mustered out July 12, 1865 by order of the War Department. He died May 17, 1925.

Craig, Seth H. – served as a Captain in Company B, 4th Iowa Volunteer Infantry, at age 36 he enlisted July 10, 1861, appointed Captain on Aug. 8, 1861, resigned Sept. 23, 1861 to accept a promotion as Lieutenant Colonel in Stewart’s Missouri Regiment. He was born Feb. 14, 1825 in Portsmouth, Ohio, died Aug. 5, 1905 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and buried in Farmington Cemetery, Farmington, [Van Buren County], Iowa.

Crane, George J. – served as a Private in Company D, 3rd Wisconsin Cavalry. He was mustered in on Feb. 1, 1862, transferred to the reorganized Veteran Corp, Company I, 3rd Wisconsin Cavalry, promoted to Sergeant, and mustered out Sept. 29, 1865.  He was born Dec 29, 1834, New York, died March 7, 1909 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Croll, Henry John – served as a Private in Company L, 4th Iowa Cavalry, enlisting Oct 14, 1861.  He was discharged and reenlisted Dec. 12, 1863, and wounded in battle Oct 25, 1864 in Osage, Kansas.

Cromer, Joseph – served as a Private in Company E, 26th Ohio Infantry. At age 23 he enlisted on July 22, 1861, transferred to the Veteran Reserve Corp on April 12, 1864 by order of the War Department.  He was born Oct 12, 1831 in Ohio, died Oct 12, 1891, and buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Crosby, Albert – served as a Private in Company C, 15th Iowa Infantry.  As a resident of Knoxville [Marion County], Iowa, age 25, he enlisted on October 24, 1861. He was born Feb 28, 1837 in Medina, Ohio, died Sept. 3, 1914 in Knoxville, Iowa, and buried in Graceland Cemetery, Knoxville, Iowa.

Culton, James H. – served as a Private in Company E, 86th Illinois Infantry, enlisted Aug. 14, 1862 and mustered out June 6, 1865.  He was buried in Logan Cemetery, Logan [Harrison County], Iowa.

Dailey, Dennis B. – served as a Colonel in the 6th Wisconsin Infantry. He was promoted to Captain Dec. 21, 1864, and promoted to Brevet Colonel in U. S. Volunteers on March 31, 1865.  He mustered out on July 14, 1865.  He was born Nov. 15, 1839 in County Galway, Ireland, died March 26, 1898 in Council Bluffs, and buried in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Dalby, Simeon J. – served as a Lieutenant in Company B, 40th Iowa Infantry. While living in Montezuma [Poweshiek County], Iowa, age 28, he enlisted and appointed 2nd Lieutenant in Company B of the 40th Iowa Volunteer Infantry on Aug. 22, 1862 and discharged Feb. 27, 1864.  He was born in October 1834 in Ohio, died of myocarditis on Dec. 31, 1919 in Council Bluffs, and buried in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Dalrymple, George – served as a Private in Company K, 96th Illinois Infantry, enlisted Aug 6, 1862, mustered in Sept. 4th, 1862 and discharged with a disability on Dec. 16, 1863.  He died in Council Bluffs and buried in Garner Cemetery, Garner Township, Pottawattamie County, Iowa.

Dalton, Francis Marion – served as a Corporal in Company A, 4th Iowa Volunteer Infantry. He enlisted July 1, 1861, was discharged and reenlisted as a veteran, age 19. He was born May 11, 1843 in Montgomery County, Indiana, died April 23, 1905, Council Bluffs, and buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Dalton, George W. – served as a Private in Company A, 4th Iowa Infantry. At age 20 he enlisted on July 1, 1861, mustered in on Aug. 15, 1861, and discharged on Sept. 4, 1864 at Davenport, Iowa, at the expiration of his term of service. He was born March 20, 1841 in Indiana, died Jan. 22, 1911 in Glenwood, Iowa, and buried in West Liberty Cemetery, Mills County, Iowa.

Daugherty, John – served as a Private in Company L, 5th Ohio Cavalry, enlisted at age 18 on Sept. 23, 1861, and mustered out on Nov. 3, 1864, the expiration of his term.  He was born in Ohio on March 29, 1844, died July 12, 1909 in Council Bluffs, and buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Davis, Francis M. – served as a Private in Company G, 95th Ohio Infantry. At age 19, he enlisted on Aug. 4, 1862, transferred to the 2nd Battalion, Veterans Reserve Corp on Feb. 21, 1865, and mustered out on June 28, 1865 at St. Louis, Missouri by order of the War Department.  He died Sept. 29, 1911 at the Iowa Soldier’s Home in Marshalltown, Iowa and buried in the Marshalltown, Iowa.

Davis, John Wesley – served as a Private in Company C, 16th Kentucky Infantry. He enrolled in Company I, of the 17th Regiment Kentucky Infantry on Oct. 22, 1861 at Hartford, Kentucky.  He was mustered in on Jan. 4, 1862 at Calhoun, Kentucky. He deserted on Oct. 18, 1862, but returned and was stopped one month pay by sentence of the regiment’s court martial. He served on detached duty in Provost Guard of the Brigade from Aug. 10, 1863 to May 1864.  His unit was consolidated and he served as a Private in Company C, 16th Kentucky Infantry. He was mustered out on Jan. 23, 1865.

Davis, John William – served as a Private in Company M, 3rd Iowa Cavalry, enlisting Feb. 23, 1864 at age 18, and mustered out on Aug 9, 1865 in Atlanta, Georgia.  He was born Oct. 24, 1845 in Jackson County, Indiana, died on April 19, 1933 in Council Bluffs, and buried in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

David, Virgil E. (alias, Albert Lindsay)
– served as a Private in Company B, 17th Illinois Cavalry. James Lindsay, a resident of Chicago, enlisted Nov. 11, 1863, mustered in Jan. 22, 1864, and mustered out Dec. 15, 1865.  He was born Nov 23, 1838 and died Aug 30, 1910 in Leavenworth, Kansas.

Dawson, Barton S. – served as a Private in Company L, 2nd Illinois Cavalry, enlisted Aug. 5, 1861 and discharged Sept. 19, 1862.  He was born March 2, 1838 in Illinois, died July 20, 1905, and buried in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

DeHaven, Joseph C. – served as a Lieutenant in Company E, 6th Iowa Cavalry. While living in Albany, Missouri, he enlisted in Company E, 6th Iowa Cavalry and at age 25 was appointed 1st Lieutenant on Sept. 16, 1862.  He was born Feb 7, 1837 in Waterford, Saratoga County, New York, died Feb. 25, 1925 in Council Bluffs, and was buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Dellinger, George – served as a Private in Company F, 158th Pennsylvania Infantry.  He was mustered in on Nov. 1, 1862 and mustered out with his company on August 12, 1863.  He was born Aug. 4, 1834 in Pennsylvania, died June 11, 1895 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Delong, Henry – served as a Private in the 3rd Iowa Battery of Light Artillery.  As a resident of Pottawattamie County, Iowa, he enlisted at age 29 on November 5, 1864, as a substitute for A. J. Bell.  He was born Sept. 7, 1834 in Old Brighton, Beaver County, Pennsylvania, died May 12, 1927 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Delph, David M. – served as a Private in Company H, 20th Pennsylvania Cavalry. He mustered in on June 25, 1863, was transferred to Company A, 181st Pennsylvania Infantry in January 1864, and mustered out July 13, 1865.

Denton, Samuel – served as a 1st Lieutenant in Company E, 20th Illinois Infantry. He enlisted June 13, 1861, was discharged and reenlisted as a veteran on Jan. 5, 1864, promoted to 1st Lieutenant Aug. 6, 1864, and mustered out July 16, 1865.

Dickey, George Scott – served as a Private in Independent Battery Colored.  He enlisted Sept. 10, 1861 as a Sergeant in Company A, 46th Illinois Infantry, promoted to 2nd Lieutenant on April 1, 1862, and resigned Oct 15, 1864. He was born Sept. 19, 1830 in Washington County, Pennsylvania, died on Oct. 14, 1911 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and buried in Griswold, Iowa.

Dickey, William A. – served as a Corporal in Company B, 15th Iowa Infantry. He enlisted as a Private on Oct. 11, 1861, mustered Nov. 9, 1861, was discharged and reenlisted Jan. 29, 1864, promoted to 8th Corporal on Apr. 14, 1865 and mustered out July 29, 1865 in Louisville, Kentucky. He was born June 18, 1844 in Ross County, Ohio, died Feb. 8, 1932 in Polk County, Iowa, and buried in Woodland Cemetery, Des Moines, Iowa.

Dobson, Palmer – served as a Private in Company K, 1st Iowa Cavalry.  As a resident in Clayton County, Iowa, he enlisted at age 28, on August 29, 1862.  He was born in 1832 in Indiana, died Feb. 5, 1891 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Dodge, Grenville Mellen – served as a Major General in the 4th Iowa Infantry. Upon enlistment July 17, 1861, he was appointed Colonel of the 4th Iowa Infantry. Before the Civil War he was Captain of the Council Bluffs Guards, July 15, 1856.  He was born April 12, 1831 in Danvers, Essex County, Massachusetts, died Jan. 3, 1916 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and buried Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Dolson, Thomas B. – served as a Sergeant in Company G, 21st Iowa Infantry. As a resident of Clayton County, Iowa, he was age 23 when he enlisted Aug. 14, 1862 as a 3rd Corporal, and promoted to 2nd Sergeant on Sept. 1, 1863.  He died May 28, 1911 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and buried in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Kane Township, Pottawattamie County, Iowa.

Donahue, Bartholemew – served as a Private in Company E, 16th Illinois Cavalry.  He enlisted Oct. 3, 1862, mustered in on Nov. 12, 1862, and mustered out on June 5, 1865. 

Doty, Isaac D. – served as a Private in Company H, 40th Iowa Infantry.  He enlisted at age 18 on Aug 13, 1862, mustered in on Oct. 20, 1862 and mustered out Aug 2, 1865 at Fort Gibson, Cherokee Nation.  He was born March 6, 1844 in Indiana, died Nov. 18, 1917 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Dovenspike, David – served as a Private in Company D, 35th Massachusetts Infantry. He enlisted as a Private in Company H, 8th Illinois Infantry on Oct. 18, 1864 as a substitute and mustered out Oct. 19, 1865.

Drake, James C. – served as a Private in Company G, 17th Iowa Infantry. At age 19, he enlisted on March 21, 1862 and discharge Sept. 21, 1862 at Keokuk, Iowa.  He was born in 1844 in Mercer County, Pennsylvania and his occupation was Wagon maker.

Driesback, Joseph B. – served as a Private in Company F, 132nd Pennsylvania Infantry.  He mustered in on Aug. 15, 1862 and mustered out with his company on May 24, 1863.

Dryden, Drury F. – served as a Private in the 19th Ohio Battery, Light Artillery.  At age 20 he enlisted on Aug. 12, 1862, appointed as Corporal and mustered out with his battery on June 27, 1865.  He was born March 12, 1842 in Cleveland, Ohio, died Dec. 1, 1908, and was buried in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Dunn, John – served as a Private in the 3rd Iowa Battery of Light Artillery.  At age 18 he enlisted on Nov. 14, 1864, as a substitute for Thomas Bateman.  He was born in New York and died Feb. 19, 1920 in Council Bluffs, and buried in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Dutcher, John G. – served as a Private in Company F, 142nd Indiana Infantry, enlisted Oct. 10, 1864, and mustered out as a Sergeant on July 14, 1865.  He was born Dec. 22, 1840 in Avon, New York, died June 22, 1910, Council Bluffs, Iowa, and buried in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Eaton, Thomas A. – served as a Private in Company E, 3rd Massachusetts Heavy Artillery. At age 20, he enlisted Aug. 27, 1863. He was born Nov. 30, 1843, Shirley, Massachusetts, died May 7, 1927 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and buried in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Edgar, Joseph A. – served as a Corporal in Company G, 26th Ohio Infantry. At age 19, he enlisted on July 21, 1861, appointed to Corporal on Jan. 15, 1862, and mustered out on July 25, 1864 at the expiration of his term of service.  He died Nov. 1, 1904 in Marshalltown, Iowa at the Iowa Soldier’s Home.

Edgerton, Charles – served as a Landsman in the U. S. Navy. According to his Pension file, he served in the Marine Corps from  1857 to 1861, and as a Yeoman on the U.S.S. Ohio and Carolina from 1861 to 1863.

Ellam, Thomas – served as a Private in Company D, 1st Nebraska Infantry. At age 24, and a resident of Nebraska City, he enlisted June 10, 1861, promoted to Corporal on April 1, 1863, discharged and reenlisted Jan. 1, 1864, transferred to Company F, of the 1st Nebraska Infantry on Dec. 3, 1864, promoted to Sergeant on May 3, 1866, mustered out July 1, 1866.   He died Dec. 24, 1894 and was buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Epla, William H. – served as a Private in Company D, 25th Illinois Infantry. He enlisted on June 1, 1861, and discharged Jan. 4, 1862 for a disability.  He was born March 15, 1840 in Champaign County, Ohio, died June 16, 1911, and buried in Graceland Cemetery, in Creston, Iowa.

Epperson, John – served as a Private in Company K, 36th Iowa Infantry. He enlisted Aug. 20, 1862 and discharged to enlist in the Mississippi Marine Brigade on Jan. 15, 1863, at Benton Barracks, Missouri.  He was born Dec 26, 1839 in Wayne County, Indiana, died Dec. 19, 1928, Council Bluffs, Iowa, and buried in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Evans, Samuel L. – served as a Private in Company I, 13th Iowa Infantry. At age 20 he enlisted March 15, 1864, wounded accidently on April 29, 1864, and mustered out June 12, 1865 in Davenport, Iowa.  He was born in 1844, died April 27, 1893, and buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Fancher, Abram A. – served as a Private in Company A, 6th Wisconsin Infantry and as a Corporal in Company K, 1st Wisconsin Cavalry.  He enlisted on June 3, 1861, discharged with a disability on June 27, 1862 from Company A, 6th Wisconsin Infantry.  He reenlisted into Company K, 1st Wisconsin Cavalry on Sept. 1, 1863 as a Corporal, and mustered out July 19, 1865.  He was born Dec. 2, 1842 in Herkimer County, Ohio, died March 9, 1925 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and buried in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Farrell, Henry – served as a Private in Company B, 26th Iowa Infantry, enlisting at age 18 on July 21, 1862.  He was born in Illinois and buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, Irwin, Iowa.

Fehr, Aaron – served as a Corporal in Company G, 46th Illinois Infantry.  He enlisted Oct. 8, 1861, discharged, and reenlisted as a veteran.  He was born March 19, 1841 in Pennsylvania, died March 27, 1916 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Ferris, Edwin T. – serviced as a Private in Company A, 29th Iowa Infantry.  At age 19 he enlisted Feb. 29, 1864.  He was born Dec 15, 1844 in England, died July 5, 1907 in Crescent, Iowa, and buried in Crescent Cemetery, Crescent, Iowa.

Fifield, William A. – served as a Private in Company A, 5th Iowa Cavalry.  At age 18, he enlisted Feb. 28, 1864, transferred to Company A, 5th Veteran Cavalry Consolidated on Aug. 8, 1864.  He died March 14, 1905 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and buried in Fairview Cemetery, in the G. A. R. Circle, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Filbert, John P. – served as a Private in Company E, 113rd Illinois Infantry.  He enlisted Aug. 11, 1862 and discharged Sept. 1, 1863 for a disability.  He was born in 1844, New York, and buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Fisher, Ernest E. – served as a Private in Company E, 23rd Iowa Infantry. He enlisted at age 17 on July 23, 1862 as a Fifer in Company D.  He was born in 1845 in Germany, died on May 5, 1894 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and buried in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Fiske, Dallas M. – served as  Private in Company B, 30th Illinois Infantry. The Illinois Adjutant General Report has him enlisting Aug. 20, 1861 in Company E, 30th Illinois Infantry. He was buried in Galena, Illinois.

Fitzpatrick, James T. – served as a Private in the 21st Independent Battery Ohio Light Artillery, enlisting at age 29, on Feb. 27, 1863.

Folsom, Edward L. – served as a Private in Company B, 4th Iowa Infantry. As a resident of Council Bluffs, Iowa, age 21, he enlisted on July 10, 1861.  He was born in New Hampshire.

Fonda, Erwin R. – served as a Private in Company D, 147th New York Infantry. He enlisted Aug. 25, 1862, promoted to Corporal, and mustered out June 7, 1865 with his company near Washington, D. C. He died in August 1919.

Ford, Thomas H. – served as a Captain in Company K, 1st New Jersey Cavalry, enlisted as a Private in Company D, 1st New Jersey Cavalry, on July 29, 1861, promoted to Corporal Feb. 20, 1862, and promoted to Sergeant June 1, 1863, to 2nd Lieutenant Feb. 28, 1864. He became 1st Lieutenant Nov. 1, 1864, promoted to Captain in Company E, 1st New Jersey Cavalry on June 8, 1865 and mustered out July 24, 1865.

Foreman, Josephus – served as a Private in Company G, 174th Ohio Infantry, enlisted Sept. 10, 1864, mustered out May 29, 1865 at Camp Dennison, Ohio by order of the War Department.  He was born Sept. 25, 1828 in Ohio, died Dec. 12, 1893, and was buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Foster, David W. – served as a Private in Company H, 61st Pennsylvania Infantry, enlisted Feb. 18, 1865 and mustered out with his company on June 28, 1865.  He was born in Pennsylvania and was buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Foster, Solomon H. – served as a Private in Company B, 28th Wisconsin Infantry, enlisted on Aug. 15, 1862 and mustered out Aug. 23, 1865.  He died April 11, 1911 at the Iowa Soldier’s Home in Marshalltown, Iowa and was buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Foster, William H. – served as a Private in Company B, 44th Iowa Infantry. He was age 19, living in Muscatine, Iowa when he enlisted May 10, 1864 and was discharged Sept. 15, 1864 in Davenport, Iowa. He was born Aug 25, 1845 near Baltimore, Maryland, died June 13, 1938 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and was buried in Silver City Cemetery, Silver City, Iowa.

Fox, Basil – served as a Private in Company H, 17th Iowa Infantry. At age 34, he enlisted on April 7, 1862. He was born July 28, 1827 in Putnam County, Indiana and died Jan 16, 1910, with burial in Branson Cemetery, Loveland, Rockford Township, Pottawattamie County, Iowa.

Fox, John – served as a Corporal in Company H, 6th Iowa Volunteer Infantry. He enlisted July 12, 1861 as a 4th Corporal, promoted to 1st Corporal on Dec. 10, 1861 and later discharged. He reenlisted on Jan. 26, 1864.  He was born on Dec 25, 1817 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, died March 20, 1897 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, with burial in Council Bluffs.

Gallagher, Eugene M. – served as a Private in the U.S. Navy on the steamer Essex. He enlisted Oct. 27, 1861 and was discharged July 28, 1863. He was born in Canada and died in Council Bluffs, Iowa, buried in the old part of St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Gallagher, Michael – served as a Private in Company E, 90th Illinois Infantry.  He was a resident of Chicago, Illinois when he enlisted on Aug. 15, 1862.  He was promoted to Sergeant before he was mustered out on June 6, 1865.

Gerard, Edward M. – served as a Private in Company A, 87th Indiana Infantry. He enlisted Feb. 13, 1864 and transferred to the Veteran’s Reserve Corp on April 3, 1865. He was born in 1841 in Indiana and died in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Gilmore, Warren W. – served in the Chicago Mercantile Battery. He enlisted Aug. 25, 1862, was promoted to Corporal and discharged June 19, 1865 with a disability. He was born in 1834 in Pennsylvania, died Nov. 1897, and buried in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Gladwin, Julius H. – served as a Private in Company C, 47th Iowa Infantry.  Living in Pottawattamie County Iowa, at age 20, he enlisted on May 23, 1864.  He was born in Connecticut in 1844 and died Jan. 23, 1903 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Golden, Charles M. – served as a Private in Company D, 20th Iowa Infantry. At age 23, he enlisted on Aug. 12, 1862 and mustered out in Mobile, Alabama on July 8, 1865.  He was born Oct. 3, 1839 in Franklin County, Indiana, died Sept. 16, 1911 in Des Moines, Iowa and was buried in Glendale Cemetery, Des Moines, Iowa.

Goodchild, John – served as a Private in Company M, 1st Ohio Light Artillery. At age 20, he enlisted Dec. 4, 1861, transferred from Battery G, on March 11, 1864, and mustered out Dec. 16, 1864 in Chattanooga, Tennessee at the expiration of his term of service. He was born in New York in 1836 and died in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and buried in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Goodman, Stephen O. – served as a Private in Company I, 10th Minnesota Infantry. He enlisted on Feb. 16, 1864 at the age of 18, and mustered out on Aug. 19, 1865. He joined the G.A.R., Lincoln Post # 29, Council Bluffs, Iowa in 1911.

Gordon, John W. – served as a Private in Company L, Pennsylvania Cavalry. He enlisted June 19, 1861 at Indianapolis, Indiana as a Private in Company E, 53rd Ohio Infantry and deserted while on furlough Oct. 1, 1862. He was mustered into the 6th Pennsylvania Cavalry Feb. 28, 1865 for one year, transferred to Company I, 2nd Provisional Cavalry on June 17, 1865. He was born March 26, 1841 in Indiana, died May 29, 1919 in Marshalltown, Iowa, and buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Gordon, Oliver Walker – served as an Assistant to Surgeon Hughes of Iowa. He was born March 29, 1836 in Wayne County, Indiana, died March 15, 1927 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.  He was a Physician and was buried in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Gormley, John – served as a  Private in Company D, 9th Iowa Cavalry. He enlisted at age 18, mustering in on Oct. 27, 1863 and mustered out Feb. 28, 1866 in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was born in Indiana.

Goss, Hugh L. W. – served as a Private in Company B, 4th Iowa Infantry. Living in Pottawattamie County, Iowa at age 20, he enlisted July 10, 1861, mustered in on Aug. 8, 1861, and discharged for disability on April 16, 1862.  He reenlisted into Company E, 23rd Iowa Infantry at age 22, on June 30, 1862 at a 2nd Sergeant and discharged again for disability July 4, 1864 at Morganza, Louisiana. He was born March 24, 1839 in Illinois, died Sept. 8, 1904, and buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Graham, James D. – served as a Sergeant in Company G, 50th Illinois Infantry. He enlisted Sept. 25, 1861 as a Private. He was discharged and reenlisted as a veteran on July 10, 1865 as a 1st Lieutenant, then mustered out as a Sergeant on July 13, 1865.  He was born Oct. 4, 1843 in Illinois, died April 6, 1920 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Grass, Francis – served as a Private in the 2nd Iowa Battery Light Artillery. At age 29 he enlisted Aug. 11, 1862 and promoted to Artificer [Surveyor].  He was born March 18, 1833 in St. Katherine, Canada, died April 29, 1904 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Grate, Levi – served as a Private in Company G, 139th Illinois Infantry. He enlisted on May 16, 1864, mustered in on June 1, 1864, and mustered out Oct. 28, 1864.  He joined the G.A.R. Lincoln Post #29, Council Bluffs, Iowa in 1890.
Gretzer, Stephen – served as a Private in Company I, 1st Wisconsin Infantry. He enlisted Sept. 24, 1861 and mustered out Oct 13, 1864 at the expiration of his term of service.  He was born Dec. 25, 1844 and died Dec. 14, 1918 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, with burial in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Kane Township, Council Bluffs.

Guittar, Theodore – served as a Private in the 2nd Iowa Battery Light Artillery. As a resident of Council Bluffs, Iowa, he enlisted at the age of 19 on Aug. 11, 1862.  He was born Dec. 20, 1842 in St. Louis, Missouri, died April 27, 1918 in Council Bluffs, and buried in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Haines, George A. – served as a Private in Company A, 2nd Nebraska Cavalry.

Haines, Leroy – served as a Private in Company M, 5th New York Cavalry.

Hamilton, Henry – served as a Private in Company A, 40th Missouri Volunteer Infantry.  He enlisted Aug 15, 1864 at St. Louis, Missouri and mustered out Aug. 8, 1865.  He was born in Missouri and his occupation was farmer.

Hardin, John M. – served as a Corporal in Company G, 5th Kansas Cavalry.  He enlisted Oct. 10, 1861, promoted to Corporal and mustered out April 18, 1865.  He was born July 13, 1842 in Ohio, died April 15, 1919, and buried in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Hardymartin, John – served as a Private in Company D, 72nd Illinois Infantry.  He was born in Jefferson City, New Jersey, died Dec. 13, 1915 in Minden, Iowa, and buried in Minden, Iowa.

Harl, Charles Fenton – served as a Private in Company K, 142nd Ohio Infantry. At age 18 he enlisted May 2, 1864 and mustered out with his company on Sept. 2, 1864, having signed up for 100 day service.  He was born Jan 30, 1845 in Mt. Vernon, Ohio, died Jan 27, 1934 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and buried in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Harrington, George E. – served as a Private in Company C, 5th Massachusetts Infantry. At age 18 he enlisted July 16, 1864 for 100 day service.  He mustered out Nov 16, 1864.  He was born in 1847, died on Dec 28, 1913 in Marshalltown, Iowa at the Iowa Soldier’s Home.

Harrington, Josiah G. – served as a Private in Company E, 11th Ohio Cavalry.  At age 34 he enlisted July 14, 1863, promoted to Quarter Master Sergeant on Sept. 1, 1863, and discharged April 1, 1865 in Omaha, Nebraska.

Harrison, Caleb H. – served in Battery B, 1st New Jersey Artillery.  He enlisted Sept. 3, 1861, promoted to Corporal, Jan. 21, 1864, and mustered out Sept. 14, 1864.

Hart, Henry Watts – served as a Surgeon for Field and Staff in the 38th Iowa Infantry.  He was appointed Assistant Surgeon Sept. 10, 1861, promoted to Surgeon of the 38th Infantry on Sept. 10, 1862, resigned to accept a promotion Oct. 10, 1862 at Helena, Arkansas, for Reserve West Union,  mustered in Nov. 4, 1862, mustered out Jan. 1, 1865. He was born Oct 14, 1818 at Chenango County, New York, died Feb. 12, 1891 at Council Bluffs, Iowa and buried in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Hart, James M. – served as a Private in Company D, 38th Wisconsin Infantry. He mustered in on March 31, 1864, transferred to Veteran’s Reserve Corp on April 24, 1865, and mustered out Nov. 21, 1865.  He was born April 8, 1830 in Vermont and died Sept. 24, 1916 in Leavenworth, Kansas with burial in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Hathaway, Jay J. – served as a Private in Company I, 19th Ohio Volunteer Infantry and as a Sergeant in Company K, 2nd Pennsylvania Volunteer Cavalry.  He enlisted April 27, 1861 in Company I, 19th Ohio Infantry and discharged Oct. 30, 1861.  He reenlisted April 14, 1862 in Company K, 2nd Pennsylvania Cavalry and discharged March 28, 1865.  He was born in Ohio and died Sept. 9, 1894 in Council Bluffs, Iowa with burial in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Hayes, Thomas – served as a Private in Company H, 1st Michigan Light Artillery.  At age 21 he enlisted on Jan. 20, 1864 at Grand Rapids, Michigan and joined his battalion at Vicksburg, Mississippi on April 1, 1864.  He mustered out on July 22, 1865 at Jackson, Michigan.

Heacock, Daniel B. – served as a Private in Company H, 14th Iowa Volunteer Infantry.  At age 28, while a resident of Jones County, Iowa, he enlisted on October 12, 1861.  He was born in Ohio and died Jan. 4, 1904.

Head, Thomas H. – served as a Corporal in Company A, 4th Iowa Infantry. He enlisted Aug. 15, 1861 and appointed 1st Lieutenant, promoted Captain Sept. 14, 1861. He was born Sept. 8, 1826 in Kentucky and died July 5, 1891 in Glenwood, Iowa.

Heft, Joshua Barton – served as a Private in Company B, 32nd Illinois Infantry. He enlisted Aug. 23, 1861, was later discharged and reenlisted as a veteran on Jan 2, 1864 and mustered out Sept. 16, 1865 at a 1st Sergeant.  He was born Feb. 22, 1842 in Muskingum County, Ohio, died April 6, 1902 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and buried in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Heisler, David Augustus – served as a Private in Company I, 2nd Pennsylvania Artillery.  He mustered in on May 13, 1863 and mustered out with his battalion on Jan. 28, 1866.  He was born on May 11, 1846 in Pottsville, Pennsylvania and died at age 91 on May 27, 1937 in Council Bluffs, Iowa with burial in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Heft, Peter – served as a Private in Company H, 7th Illinois Infantry. He first enlisted Aug. 22, 1861 in Company H, 32nd Illinois Infantry and was discharged with a disability on April 8, 1863. He reenlisted Jan. 4, 1864, promoted to Corporal, and mustered out on July 9, 1865.  He was born April 15, 1839 in Ohio and died March 29, 1913 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.  He was buried in Fisher Cemetery, Norwalk Township, Pottawattamie County, Iowa.

Henderson, Hubbard C. – served as a Captain in Company C, 34th Iowa Infantry.  At age 30, while living in Indianola, Iowa, he enlisted and appointed 1st Lieutenant on Aug. 13, 1862. Later he reenlisted into the 48th Iowa Infantry Battalion and appointed Sergeant Major on May 7, 1864 and mustered out on Oct 21, 1864 in Rock Island, Illinois at the expiration of his term.

Henrix, Fred – [aka Heinck, Francis] served as a Private in Company F, 54th Ohio Infantry.  He enlisted Oct. 30, 1861, for three years and promoted to 1st Lieutenant. He died Dec. 24, 1895 and was buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Highsmith, Amos R. – served as a Private in Company C, 32nd Iowa Infantry.  At age 31, he enlisted and mustered in Jan. 4, 1864, transferred to Company H, 8th Iowa Infantry on July 27, 1865 and mustered out on March 23, 1866.  He died on Nov. 29, 1912 in Bancroft, South Dakota and buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Hill, John E. – served as a Private in Company K, 1st Colorado Cavalry.   He enlisted Sept. 1, 1861, appointed Sergeant Sept. 6, 1861, 1st Sergeant on Aug. 10, 1862.  He was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant of the Colorado Cavalry on June 10, 1863 and transferred to Company G, Veteran’s Battalion 1st Cavalry on March 18, 1865 and mustered out Oct 28, 1865.  He was born in Pennsylvania in 1832 and died in Council Bluffs, Iowa Sept. 24, 1907, buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Hilling, George W. – served as a Private in Company C, 27th Iowa Volunteer Infantry.  He enlisted Aug. 12, 1862 at age 28, a resident of Buchanan County, Iowa.  He was born March 12, 1834 in Muskingum County, Ohio, died on Nov. 9, 1908 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Holden, Henry W. – served as a Private in Company H, 21dt Massachusetts Infantry.  At age 19 he enlisted and mustered in on Aug. 5, 1861 and discharged with a disability on Jan. 24, 1863. He was born Nov. 20, 1842 in Massachusetts, died Sept. 27, 1919 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and buried in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Holliday, John Milton – served as a Private in Company F, 4th Iowa Volunteer Infantry.  He enlisted Jan. 1, 1862, wounded in his leg severely on March 7, 1862 at Pea Ridge, Arkansas and discharge at Saint Louis, Missouri. He joined the G. A. R. Lincoln Post #29 at Council Bluffs, Iowa in 1903.

Hollingsworth, Henry – served as a Private in the 3rd Iowa Battery Light Artillery.  While living in Pottawattamie County he enlisted Nov. 5, 1864 at age 29.  He joined the G. A. R. Lincoln Post #29, Council Bluffs in February 1882.

Holmes, Edward F. – served as a Private in Company F, 5th Kansas Cavalry.  He enlisted July 12, 1861 and was discharged on April 29, 1865.  He was born May 5, 1841 in Indiana and died May 31, 1893 in Council Bluffs, Iowa with burial in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Hooker, William – served as a Private in Company E, 2nd West Virginia Cavalry. He enlisted Sept. 1, 1861, age 20 at Charleston, West Virginia and discharged Dec. 31, 1863.  He reenlisted Jan 1, 1864 and was discharged June 30, 1865 at Wheeling, West Virginia.  He was born Oct. 23, 1841 at Tuscarawa County, Ohio and died Dec. 3, 1904 at Garden Grove, Iowa.  He was buried in Woodburn Cemetery, Jackson Township, Clarke County, Iowa.

Hoon, James – served as a Sergeant in Company E, 18th Iowa Volunteer Infantry.  While living in Tipton, Iowa, age 25, he enlisted on June 11, 1862 as a 4th Corporal.  He was promoted to 3rd Sergeant on Dec. 18, 1864 and promoted to 2nd Lieutenant on July 1, 1865.  He was born June 20, 1837 in Pennsylvania and died June 2, 1917 in Council Bluffs, Iowa with burial in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Hoover, Sanford S. – served as a Private in Company G, 82nd Ohio Infantry.  At age 20 he enlisted on Dec. 12, 1863 and mustered out with his company on July 24, 1865.  He was born April 22, 1844 in Marion, Ohio and died Jan. 30, 1933 in Siloam Springs, Arkansas.  He was buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Howard, Stephen A. – served as a Private in Company F, 111th Pennsylvania Infantry.  He enlisted on Dec. 3, 1861, promoted to Sergeant, and was mustered out with his company on July 19, 1865.  He died Jan. 8, 1931.

Howser, Leroy – served as a Private in Company M, 5th New York Cavalry.  He was born on Dec. 4, 1843 in Pennsylvania and died Dec. 15, 1923 in Lincoln, Nebraska, buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Hubbard, Charles S. – served as a Private in Company K, 3rd New Jersey Militia.  He enlisted and was mustered in on April 27, 1861 and mustered out on July 31, 1861.  He was born in 1836 in New Jersey and died Oct. 26, 1916 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Hubbard, Rollin Corbett – served as a Private in Company A, 116th New York Infantry. He first enlisted as a Private in Company D, 2nd Michigan Infantry, age 19, on April 20, 1861 and was discharged Aug. 24, 1861 on account of being a miner. Again, he enlisted on Aug. 12, 1862 at Hamburg, New York,  as a Private in Company A, 116th New York Infantry.  He was born June 26, 1842; after the war became an editor for the Nonpariel newspaper in Council Bluffs, Iowa and died in Des Moines, Iowa March 16, 1907.

Huff, Levi C. – served as a Private in Company E, 69th Indiana Infantry.  He mustered in on July 28, 1862 and was discharged March 22, 1863 for a disability.  He died in  November 1895.

Hughes, James – served as a Private in Company G, 139th New York Infantry.  At age 43, he enlisted Aug. 22, 1862 at Brooklyn, New York and mustered out with his company June 19, 1865 at Richmond, Virginia.  He was born in 1819 and died in 1896 in Council Bluffs, Iowa with burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Hutchins, John – served as a Private in Company E, 28th Illinois Infantry.  He enlisted on Sept. 1, 1861, mustered in on April 18, 1862, and was discharged Sept. 1, 1864.  He died Jan. 5, 1909.

Hutton, Thomas H. – served as a Sergeant in Company A, 29th Iowa Volunteer Infantry.  He enlisted when 22 years of age, on Aug. 15, 1862 and promoted to 5th Sergeant on Aug. 1, 1864.  He joined the G. A. R., Lincoln Post #29, at Council Bluffs on Feb. 1882.

Hyatt, Levi P. – served as a Private in Company E, 5th Illinois Cavalry. He enlisted Sept. 25, 1861 for three years and mustered in Oct. 22, 1861 at Camp Butler, was discharged and reenlisted as a veteran on Jan. 1, 1864 at Clear Creek, Mississippi and mustered out Oct. 27, 1865 as a Sergeant at Springfield, Illinois. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1833.

Inscho, Amasa M. – served as a Private in Company F, 23rd Iowa Volunteer Infantry.  At age 18, he enlisted August 9, 1862 and was wounded May 17, 1863 at Black River Bridge, Mississippi.  He was born in Indiana.

Jacoby, James – served as a Private in Company H, 9th Iowa Volunteer Infantry.  He enlisted on March 14, 1864 at age 16, a resident of Jones County, Iowa.  He was born Nov. 11, 1843 in Ohio and died Nov. 11, 1912 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Jacoby, John W. – served as a Private in Company E, 83rd Illinois Infantry.  He enlisted on Aug. 8, 1862 and mustered out on June 26, 1865. He joined the G.A.R., Lincoln Post #29, in Council Bluffs in 1894.

Jenkins, Elijah – served as a Private in Company A, 27th Indiana Infantry.  He enlisted on Sept. 12, 1861 and was mustered out on Sept. 1, 1864.  He was born March 10, 1838 and died Dec. 27, 1924 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, with burial in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Johnson, Lorenz Peter – served as a Private in Company D, 9th Iowa Volunteer Infantry. He enlisted Nov. 5, 1864 and mustered out July 18, 1865 in Louisville, Kentucky.  He was born May 7, 1842 in Denmark and died March 25, 1930 in Council Bluffs, Iowa with burial in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, Boomer Township, Pottawattamie County, Iowa.

Johnson, Samuel – served as a Corporal in Company K, 6th Iowa Volunteer Infantry. He enlisted July 12, 1861, promoted to Musician and discharged, reenlisted and mustered in on Jan. 26, 1864.  He was born in Pennsylvania in 1842 and died April 9, 1923 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.  He was buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Jones, Eliphalet S. – served as a Private in Company K, 16th Iowa Volunteer Infantry.  At age 22 he enlisted on Oct. 1, 1864 and mustered out May 30, 1865.  He was born in New York.

Jones, W. E. – served as a Corporal in Company K, 4th Kentucky Infantry.  He was born in Tennessee in 1846.

Joseph, Nephi – served as a Private in Company A, 29th Iowa Volunteer Infantry.  At age 19 he enlisted on Feb. 29, 1864 and was promoted to 8th Corporal on July 14, 1865. He was born Dec. 24, 1844 in Wahoo, Illinois, died June 27, 1920 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Judd, Abner – served as a Corporal in Company F, 1st Ohio Battery Light Artillery. He enlisted on Sept. 13, 1861 at age 19 and discharged Aug 2, 1865 at Jeffersonville, Indiana with a disability.  He was born March 11, 1842 at Higginsport, Ohio and died May 12, 1927 at Council Bluffs, Iowa.  He was buried in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Junkins, James – served as a Private in Company F, 1st Nebraska Infantry. Living in Clarinda, Iowa at age 29, he enlisted on June 15, 1861 and mustered out at the expiration of his term on June 10, 1864. He joined the G.A.R. Lincoln Post #29 in Council Bluffs, Iowa on Apr. 6, 1882.

Keith, Willis B. – served as a Sergeant in Company B, 35th Indiana Infantry.  He enlisted Oct. 15, 1861 at Parks County, Indiana, was promoted to 1st Sergeant and mustered out Sept. 30, 1865 at Victoria, Texas.  He was born Dec. 30, 1845 at Quincy, Illinois and died Nov. 20, 1933 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Keller, Samuel S. – served as a Private in Company A, 165th Pennsylvania Infantry. He enlisted on Nov. 4, 1862 and mustered out with his company on July 26, 1863.  He was born Sept. 10, 1838 at Chambersberg, Pennsylvania and died Aug. 4, 1930 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He was buried in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Keller, Victor L. – served as a Private in the 2nd Iowa Battery Light Artillery.  He enlisted Aug. 11, 1862 at age 20, promoted to 1st Corporal on Dec. 15, 1864.  He was born Oct. 3, 1842 in Ohio and died Oct. 14, 1907 in Council Bluffs, Iowa with burial in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Kelley, James – served as a Private in Company C, 11th United States Infantry. He first enlisted on Aug. 15, 1862 in Company K, 89th Indiana Infantry, transferred to the United States Army on Nov. 21, 1862, and mustered out on Nov. 21, 1865.  He was born March 14, 1843 in Ohio and died Jan. 1, 1920 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.  He was buried in Crescent Cemetery, Crescent City, Iowa.

Kendle, James Harvey – served as a Private in Company E, 138th Illinois. He was born Oct. 12, 1845 in Warren County, Ohio and died July 21, 1921 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.  He was buried in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Kessler, Anthony – served as a Private in Company F, 40th Iowa Infantry. While living in Knoxville, Iowa, age 32, he enlisted on Aug. 9, 1862 in Company K, 40th Iowa Infantry, transferred to Company F, 40th Iowa Infantry on Nov. 15, 1862, and mustered out for disability on Oct. 9, 1863 at Memphis, Tennessee.  He was born April 19, 1830 in Ohio, died March 17, 1914 in Randolph, Nebraska.  He was buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Kessler, Stephen – served as a Private in Company I, 15th Iowa Infantry. He enlisted at age 30 on Sept. 28, 1864 and mustered out June 2, 1865 in Washington, D. C. He was born in 1834 in Ohio and died June 21, 1917 in Council Bluffs, Iowa with burial in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Kilgore, John W. – served as a 1st Sergeant in Company A, 70th Indiana Infantry. He mustered in on July 15, 1862, promoted to 2nd Lieutenant on Jan 17, 1865, and mustered out with his regiment on July 21, 1865 at Louisville, Kentucky.  He was born in Ohio in 1829 and died in Council Bluffs, Iowa April 2, 1891. He was buried in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Kilrain, John – served as a Private in Company B, 26th Iowa Infantry. He was living in Maquoketa, Iowa at age 19 when he enlisted Aug. 4, 1862 and mustered in on Sept. 1, 1862.  He was wounded slightly on Jan. 11, 1863 in Arkansas Post, Arkansas and mustered out June 6, 1865 in Washington, D. C.  He was born June 13, 1843 in Thorold, Welland County, Ontario Canada and died March 1, 1925 in a sanitarium in National City, California.

King, Nathaniel – served as a Private in Company H, 38th Iowa Infantry.  At age 21, and a resident of Elgin, Iowa, he enlisted Aug. 14, 1862, and discharge with a disability on Sept. 21, 1863 in Carrollton, Louisiana. He was born in Kentucky.

King, Reuben V. – served as a Captain in Company A, 85th New York Infantry. He enlisted at age 23 in Olean, New York, and mustered in Elmira, New York on Dec. 3, 1861 for three years.

Kinney, Ira G. – served as a Private in Company I, 9th Michigan Cavalry.  At age 18, while living in California, he mustered into Company I, of the 9th Michigan Cavalry on Jan. 22, 1862 and mustered out on July 21, 1865.  He was born Dec. 14, 1844 in Onondaga County, New York and died Sept. 1, 1933 with burial in Kansas City, Missouri.

Kingsley, Noah J. – served as a Private in Company D, 132nd Indiana Infantry. He mustered in on May 18, 1864 for 100 day term, and mustered out at the expiration of his term.  He was born in 1848 in Indiana and buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Kirk, J. W. – service unknown, joined the G.A.R. Lincoln Post #29 at Council Bluffs, Iowa on Aug. 27, 1892.

Kissel, Isaac B. – served as a Private in Company K, 7th Iowa Cavalry. At age 20 he mustered in Company A, 14th Iowa Infantry, and also served in Company A, 41st Iowa Infantry.  He was transferred to Company K, 7th Iowa Cavalry on Oct. 31, 1864, at Sioux City, Iowa and mustered out at the expiration of his term.  He was born June 12, 1841 in Upper Strasburg, Pennsylvania, died Dec. 22, 1933, age 92, in Council Bluffs, Iowa and buried in Council Bluffs.

Knight, Parson – served as a Private in Company H, 7th Wisconsin Infantry. He was born in Pennsylvania in 1844 and died in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Knight, Perry C. – served as a Private in Company D, 18th United States Infantry.  He enlisted on Aug. 16, 1861 and discharged August 28, 1865.  He died April 19, 1902 in Leavenworth, Kansas.

Knox, Ohio – served as a Sergeant in Company E, 16th Ohio Infantry. He enlisted Oct. 1, 1861 to serve three years.  He was promoted Sergeant on May 1, 1864 and mustered out Oct. 31, 1864.  He was born Mar. 17, 1842 in Fredricksburg, Holmes County, Ohio and died Feb. 9, 1919 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, with burial in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Knox, William T. – served as a Private in Company G, 2nd Iowa Cavalry.  While living in Muscatine, Iowa, age 18, he enlisted on Aug. 30, 1861 as a Bugler and mustered out Oct. 3, 1864 in Davenport, Iowa at the expiration of his term of service.  He was born in Iowa in 1841 and died Sept. 26, 1881 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.  He was buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Kreidler, Max – served as a Corporal in Company C, 98th Pennsylvania Infantry. He mustered in as a Private on Sept. 2, 1861, promoted to Corporal on Aug. 15, 1863 and Sergeant on Jan. 13, 1865.  He mustered out with his company on June 29, 1865.  He was born Sept. 26, 1834 in Germany and died Feb. 5, 1907 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.  He was buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Kuch, Jacob – served as a Private in Company A, 2nd Illinois Heavy Artillery. He enlisted Oct. 13, 1864.  He joined the G.A.R. Lincoln Post #29, Council Bluffs, Iowa in 1899 at age 67.

Lafer, L. L. – no service record known, joined G.A.R. Lincoln Post #29, Council Bluffs

Lake, Andrew J. – served as a Corporal in Company G, 25th Illinois Infantry.  He enlisted June 1, 1861, promoted 2nd Lieutenant and discharged. He reenlisted Jan. 10, 1862 and resigned Aug. 4, 1862, then reenlisted Jan 4, 1864 as a Private in Company C, 12th Illinois Cavalry and discharged July 13, 1865.  He was born in Knox County, Ohio and died Oct. 11, 1909, with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery, Missouri Valley, Iowa.

Larish, Rufus – served as a Private in Company C, 75th Illinois Infantry.  He enlisted Aug. 6, 1862 at Clyde, Illinois, and assigned to duty as a Private in Company C, 75th Infantry for three years. He mustered in Sept. 2, 1862 at Dixon, Illinois and mustered out June 12, 1865 at Camp Harker. He was born in Mount Pleasant, Columbia County, Pennsylvania.

Larison, Green Berry – served as a Private in Company B, 2nd Illinois Cavalry. He enlisted March 30, 1864 and discharged June 12, 1865.  He was born Feb. 1, 1845 in Brooks Grove, McLean County, Illinois and died Oct. 14, 1925 in Atlanta, Illinois, with burial in Crescent Township, Crescent, Iowa.

Lawton, Richard E.
– served as a Private in Company F, 1st New York Cavalry.  At age 22 he enlisted on July 18, 1861 at Syracuse, New York for three years, after which he reenlisted Jan. 1, 1864 and mustered out with his Company on June 27, 1865.

Lefferts, Henry
– served as a Private in Company G, 1st New York Cavalry.  He enlisted Aug. 1, 1861 in Company I, 1st New York Cavalry, transferred to Company G on Aug. 2, 1861.  He was captured at Woodstock, VA on Feb. 15, 1863, paroled at City Point on Mar. 7, 1863, and again captured at New Market, VA on May 13, 1864 and paroled at Charleston, S. C. on Dec. 11, 1864.  He mustered out Jan. 24, 1865. He was born Jan. 31, 1841 and died Feb. 3, 1917.  He was buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Leland, Harvey [aka Henry C.] – served as a Private in Company C, 11th Wisconsin Infantry.  He mustered in on Sept. 17, 1861, wounded at Port Gibson, and discharged with a disability on Sept. 29, 1864.  He was born June 10, 1842 in Yorkshire, England and died Aug. 10, 1900 at Clarinda, Iowa.  He was buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

LeMaster, Jacob
– served as a Private in Company K, 57th Ohio Infantry and in Company B, 4th Veterans Reserve Corp.  At age 21 he enlisted in Company K, 57th Ohio Infantry on Nov. 21, 1861 for three years. He was transferred to Company B, 4th Regiment Veteran Reserve Corps on Nov. 9, 1863.  He was born March 25, 1840 in Ohio and died Oct. 24, 1909 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, with burial in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Leonard, Samuel
– served as a Private in Company B, 116th New York Infantry. At age 26, he enlisted Aug. 7, 1862  and mustered in Company A, 116th New York Infantry, promoted to Sergeant on Sep. 3, 1862, wounded in action May 21, 1863 at Plain Store, Louisiana.  He was promoted to 1st Sergeant June 1, 1863, transferred to Company B, 116th New York Infantry and mustered in as 2nd Lieutenant on April 20, 1864.  He mustered out June 8, 1865 with his company in Washington, D. C. He was born in 1835 in Stockholm, Sweden, died Dec. 16, 1904 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and buried in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Lewis, Charles W.
– served as a Private in Company F, 22nd United States Infantry.  He was born in 1834 in New York, died April 13, 1887 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs at age 53.
Lindsay, Henry W. – served as a Corporal in Company B, 106th Illinois Infantry.  He enlisted Aug. 9, 1862, mustered in on Sept. 17, 1862, and mustered out July 12, 1865.  He was born in 1838 at Logan, Ohio.  He died Dec. 11, 1917 in Omaha, Nebraska and buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Lindt, John – served as a Private in Company B, 1st Pennsylvania Light Artillery.  He enlisted Jan. 28, 1863 and served until the close of the war.  He was born March 27, 1848 in Erie, Pennsylvania and died Sept. 7, 1912.

Line, David – served as a Private in Company A, 118th Illinois Infantry. He enlisted Aug. 15, 1862, mustered in on Nov. 7, 1862, and mustered out on Oct. 1, 1865.

Lininger, Jacob – served as a Private in Company D, 99th Indiana Infantry.  He mustered in on Aug. 13, 1862 and mustered out on June 5, 1865.

Loper, Louis Daniel – served as a Private in Company K, 2nd Iowa Cavalry as well as Company C, 30th Iowa Infantry. At age 18 he enlisted into Company C, 30th Iowa Infantry on Aug. 7, 1862.  He was discharge for a disability on April 15, 1863 in Memphis, Tennessee. He reenlisted on Dec. 7, 1863 into Company K, 2nd Iowa Cavalry and mustered out on May 20, 1865 in Davenport, Iowa.  He was born July 21, 1845 in Des Moines, Iowa and died Feb 10, 1939 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, with burial in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Loper, William – served as a Private in Company K, 7th Illinois Infantry.  He enlisted July 25, 1861, was discharged and later reenlisted as a veteran.  He died Aug. 8, 1927.

Loveland, Linus J. – served as a Corporal in Company A, 2nd Indiana Cavalry (41st Regiment).  He mustered in on Sept. 18, 1861 and mustered out Oct. 4, 1864 as a Corporal.  He died March 2, 1900 and was buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Lunkley, Charles – served as a Private in Company A, 7th Iowa Cavalry.  At age 21, he enlisted on Sept. 15, 1862 as a Corporal.  He was reduced in ranks at his own request on Dec. 1, 1864, transferred to Company A, 7th Calvary Reorganized.  He was born Oct. 12, 1845 in Canton, Ohio and died April 15, 1905 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.  He was buried in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Lyman, Joseph – served as Major in 29th Iowa Infantry.  He enlisted at age 22 on Nov. 1, 1861, promoted 4th Corporal on Feb. 24, 1862, 3rd Corporal in June 1862 and 2nd Corporal on Sept. 1, 1862.  He was discharged for promotion as Adjutant of the 29th Iowa Infantry on Oct. 19, 1862, promoted to Major on Jan. 13, 1865.  He was born in Lyons, Michigan on Sept. 13, 1840 and died July 9, 1890 in Council Bluffs, Iowa from a stroke.  He was buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

McCabe, Joseph – served as a Private in Company G, 40th Ohio Infantry.  At age 18 he enlisted Oct. 7, 1861, was wounded Sept. 20, 1863 in the Battle of Chickamauga, Georgia.  He was wounded and captured June 20, 1864 at the Battle of Kenesaw Mountain, Georgia, transferred to Company K, 51st Ohio Infantry on Dec. 10, 1864 as a veteran and discharged on Apr. 13, 1865 at Camp Dennison, Ohio. He was born in 1847 in Marietta, Ohio and died May 29, 1902 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, with burial in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

McCann, Patrick – served as a Private in Company D, 149th Pennsylvania Infantry. He mustered in on Aug 23, 1862, wounded at Wilderness, Virginia on May 5, 1864 and mustered out with his company on June 24, 1865.  He died Feb 10, 1892 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and buried in Hazel Dell Township Cemetery, Pottawattamie County, Iowa

McCollum, John – served as a Sergeant in Company L, 2nd Iowa Cavalry.  He enlisted Aug 24, 1861 as 1st Corporal, promoted to 2nd Sergeant Oct. 1, 1863 and mustered out Oct. 3, 1864 at Davenport, Iowa at the expiration of his term.  He was born in Canada about 1923 and was living in Maquoketa, Iowa when he enlisted in 1861.

McCoy, George M. – served as a Private in Company F, 24th Iowa Infantry. While living in Mount Vernon, Iowa, age 19, he enlisted Aug. 7, 1862.  He was wounded Oct 19, 1864 at Cedar Creek, Virginia.  He was born in Ohio.

McCreary, Alfred S. – served as a Private in Company E, 134th Pennsylvania Infantry.  He mustered in Aug. 14, 1862 and was discharged March 31, 1863 with a disability.  He was born in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania in 1842 and died from arterio-sclerosis on Aug. 6, 1914 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.  He was buried in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

McCreary, William M. – served as a Corporal in Company E, 15th Iowa Infantry.  He enlisted at age 25, residence, Keosauqua, Iowa, on Oct. 14, 1861 as a 1st Corporal.  He was born in Illinois.

McCreary, Edward D. – served as a Private in Company G, 177th Ohio Infantry. He enlisted at age 20 on August 15, 1864 and mustered out on June 24, 1865.
McDonald, Hugh A. – served as a Private in Company I, 2nd Iowa Infantry.  He enlisted on May 5, 1861 at age 22, a resident of Lyons, Iowa.  He was born May 1, 1833 in New York, died June 27, 1896 in Council Bluffs, and was buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

McFadden, Wallace – served as a Private in Company A, 29th Iowa Infantry. As a resident of Council Bluffs, he enlisted into Company B, 4th Iowa Infantry on July 10, 1861 and was discharged Dec. 30, 1861. He reenlisted Aug. 21, 1862 into Company A, 29th Iowa Infantry.  He was born Aug. 6, 1837 in Indiana and died Aug. 13, 1911 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, with burial in Walnut Hill Cemetery.

McGinnis, Benjamin – served as a Corporal in Company A, 29th Iowa Infantry.  He enlisted Dec. 21, 1863, wounded April 30, 1964 at Jenkins Ferry, Arkansas, and promoted to 7th Corporal on July 14, 1865.  He was born Oct. 13, 1838 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, died Nov. 16, 1888 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and buried in Hazel Dell Township Cemetery, Pottawattamie County, Iowa.

McGinnis, William H. – served as a Sergeant in Company A, 29th Iowa Infantry.  At age 27, living in Council Bluffs, Iowa, he enlisted on Aug. 2, 1862, and promoted to 1st Sergeant on July 1, 1864.  He was born in Pennsylvania.

McKune, Albert B. – served as a Private in Company c, 13th Illinois Infantry.  He enlisted and mustered in on May 24, 1864 as a Corporal, reduced in rank to Private.  He was born in Pennsylvania in 1847 and died Sept. 25, 1883 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

McMullen, Amon – served as a Private in Company F, 7th Minnesota Infantry. At age 19 he mustered in on  Aug. 12, 1862 and mustered out June 8, 1865. He joined the Lincoln G.A.R. post #29 in Council Bluffs on Nov 12, 1888.

McWilliams, L. Edmund – served as a Lieutenant in Company B, in Hall’s Sharpshooters of Michigan.  He enlisted Oct 5, 1864 at Coldwater, Michigan for one year, commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant, and mustered out March 15, 1865. He was born in New York on Feb 20, 1829 and died Aug 20, 1915, with burial in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Maltby, Darwin -  served as a Private in Company I, 27th New York Infantry. He enlisted on May 21, 1861 at age 21, for two years. He was promoted to corporal July 21, 1861; 1st Sergeant on Mar 1, 1862; 1st Lieutenant on Nov 22, 1862. He was born in Naples, New York on June 21, 1839 and died in Council Bluffs, Iowa on Jan. 26, 1921.

Manner, Hamilton W. – served as a Private in Company H, 191st Ohio Infantry. At age 24 he enlisted Feb 28, 1865 and mustered out with his company on Aug 27, 1865.

Marshall, William S. – served as an Adjutant 1st Lieutenant in Company E, 51st Regiment, Indiana Infantry. He mustered in Dec 14, 1861 and was honorably discharged Mar 22, 1865.  He was born Aug 29, 1837 in Rockville, Indiana, died July 24, 1909 in Pasadena, California and buried in Inglewood Park, Pasadena, California.

Martin, George L. – served as a Private in Company C, 36th Ohio Volunteer Infantry.  At age 18, he enlisted Sep 1, 1861 and mustered out Sep 7, 1864 at the expiration of his term. He was born in Ohio.

Mathews, James C. – joined Lincoln G.A.R. Lincoln Post #29, Council Bluffs on Jan 1882. He was buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa. Pension index lists two people with the name of James C. Mathews: a James Columbus Mathew served as a Corporal in Company G, 3rd Missouri S. M. Cavalry, and James C. Mathews who served in Company D, 118th Ohio Infantry.

Mathis, Edwin R. – served as a Corporal in Company K, 12th Iowa Infantry. He enlisted Oct 2, 1862, age 18, discharged and reenlisted Jan 5, 1864, promoted to 3rd Corporal, and discharged July 1, 1865.  He was born in Delaware.

Matlock, Joseph B. – served as a Private in the 15th Independent Battery, Indiana Volunteers.  He was born Dec 11, 1844 in Union County, Indiana, died Nov 17, 1917 in Crescent, Iowa and buried in Crescent Cemetery, Crescent, Iowa.

Medley, John G. – served as a Private in Company K, 5th Missouri Cavalry S. M.  He enlisted Apr 12, 1862 at Rockport, Missouri and mustered out June 22, 1863. He was buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Meisner, James M. – served as a Private in Company B, 39th Wisconsin Infantry. He mustered in June 1, 1864 and mustered out Sep 22, 1864. 

Merrian, Rufus N. – served as a Sergeant in Company B, 4th Iowa Volunteer Infantry. As a resident of Monona County, Iowa, he enlisted at age 24 on July 11, 1861, and was promoted to 5th Sergeant on Sep 1, 1862. He was born in Massachusetts.

Merrill, Thomas – served as a Private in the 3rd Iowa Battery of Light Artillery. He was born in New Hampshire and at age 20, while a resident of Little Rock, Arkansas, he came to Iowa and enlisted Oct 2, 1863.

Metcalf, George E. – served as a Private in Company B, 5th Ohio Volunteer Infantry.  At age 20, he enlisted Dec 14, 1861 for 3 years.  He was transferred from Company I, 7th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, and discharged on the expiration of his term of service.  He was born on Sep 30, 1841 in Geauga County, Ohio, died in August 1894 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and buried in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Metcalf, John E. – served as a Corporal in Company I, 6th Maryland Infantry.  He enlisted Aug 11, 1862 and mustered out June 20, 1865.  He was born in Baltimore, Maryland in 1845 and died Feb 25, 1896, with burial in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Miles, George B. – served as a Private in Company K, 15th Illinois Infantry.  As a resident of Carroll County, Illinois, he enlisted May 24, 1861 and mustered out May 24, 1864. He was born Feb 3, 1836 in Chester County, Pennsylvania and died Mar 4, 1909 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Miles, Reuben F. – served as a Corporal in Company E, 7th Missouri Cavalry; however his grave registration states he was a Corporal in Company G, 12th Missouri Cavalry.  He was born in Illinois in 1842 and died Feb 26, 1916 in Council Bluffs.

Miller, George T. – joined Lincoln G.A.R. Post #29, Council Bluffs Oct 8, 1892.  Military information unknown.

Miller, Wilhelm M. – served as a Private on the Gunboat, Admiral. Joined Lincon G.A.R. Post #29 in 1892.

Miller, William P. – served as a 2nd Lieutenant in Company F, 25th Iowa Infantry.  At age 31, while a resident of Columbus City, Iowa, he enlisted Aug 2, 1862 as a 2nd Sergeant and was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant on June 19, 1864.  He was born in Indiana in 1831 and died Mar 24, 1901 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Mitts, John Newton – served as a Private in Company C, 114th Illinois Infantry. He resided in Fancy Creek, Illinois when he enlisted on Aug 12, 1862.  He mustered out Aug 3, 1865.  He was born in 1841 and died Aug 8, 1924 in Fremont, Nebraska, with burial in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Moats, John S. – served as a Private in Company E, 9th Iowa Volunteer Infantry. As a resident of Clayton County, Iowa, he enlisted on Mar 12, 1864.  He was born Feb 2, 1848 in Ohio, died on Feb 8, 1920 in Council Bluffs, and buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Moore, William – served as a Corporal in Company F, 134th Illinois Infantry.  He enlisted on May 10, 1864 and mustered out Oct 25, 1864.  He was born in 1842 and died Oct 10, 1925, with burial in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Moores, Andrew J. – served as a Sergeant in Company G, 3rd Iowa Infantry. At age 19, residence, Indianola [Warren County, Iowa], he enlisted on May 21, 1861.  He was born Jan 23, 1841 in Illinois, died Nov 25, 1918, and was buried in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Morgan, Frank P. – served as a Corporal in Company F, 47th Iowa Infantry. While living in Des Moines, Iowa, age 19, he enlisted on May 16, 1864.  He was born June 18, 1847 in New York, and died Feb. 12, 1901.  He was buried in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Morris, Van R. J. – served as a Private in Company E, 15th Iowa Volunteer Infantry, enlisting Oct 4, 1864 at age 24.  He was born Mar 3, 1840 in Des Moines, Iowa, died April 30, 1911 in Council Bluffs and was buried in Hardin Township Cemetery, Pottawattamie County, Iowa.

Morse, Edgar A. – served as a Private in Company C, 58th Massachusetts Infantry. He  enlisted Jan 15, 1864 at age 18 and mustered out July 14, 1865 as a Musician Laborer.

Mott, Peter Eddy – served as a Private in Company H, 3rd Iowa Infantry. When he lived in Oskaloosa, Iowa, he enlisted on June 1, 1861 at age 23.  He was born in Ohio.

Mudge, Alden O. – served as a Private in Company K, 24th Iowa Infantry.  As a resident of Wyoming, Jones County, Iowa, he enlisted Aug 14, 1862 when he was 19 years old. He was discharged with a disability on April 13, 1863.  He was born Nov 22, 1842 in Vermont and died Oct 9, 1926 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Mueller, Julius – served as a Private in Company E, 13th Iowa Infantry. He was born April 3, 1834 in France, died Sept. 21, 1918, and was buried in Crescent, Iowa.

Murphy, William Fletcher – served as a Private in Company F, 151st Illinois Infantry.  He was born Jan 9, 1842 in Indiana, died Jan 29, 1924 in Marshalltown, Iowa and was buried in Forest Hill Cemetery, Mt. Etna, Iowa.

Musser, Charles O. – served as a Private in Company A, 29th Iowa Infantry. He was born in Ohio. At age 20, while living in Council Bluffs, Iowa, he enlisted on Aug. 9, 1862 and promoted to 3rd Sergeant on June 15, 1864.

Nash, Graham – served as a Private in Company K, 1st Colorado Cavalry.  He enlisted on Dec 20, 1861 at Central City, Colorado, age 30.  He was born in 1831 and died Aug 2, 1902 of typhoid fever, in Council Bluffs, Iowa.  He was buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Nash, Sylvester S. – served as a Private in Company E, 75th Illinois Infantry.  He enlisted on Aug 14, 1862 and mustered out as a Corporal on June 12, 1865.  He was born Jan 1, 1835 in East Greenwich, Rhode Island and died Oct 17, 1899.  He was buried in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Nicholas, Albert – served as a Private in Company C, 15th New Jersey Infantry. He enlisted Aug 7, 1862 and mustered out June 22, 1865.  He was born in Morris County, New Jersey on Nov 22, 1842, died Aug 15, 1913 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and was buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Nicholson, J. Dwight – served as a Private in Company F, 4th Iowa Infantry. When he was 20, and living in Winterset, Iowa, he enlisted on July 1, 1861.  He was promoted to 2nd Corporal on Jan 18, 1864.  He was born in Indiana.

Nixon, Alfred G. – served as a Musician in Company D, 11th Pennsylvania Infantry.  He enlisted as a Musician on July 5, 1861 and mustered out with his company on June 13, 1864.  He was born in Pennsylvania and died April 26, 1905.

Nixon, Moses – served as a Private in Company A, 29th Iowa Infantry.  When he was age 24, living in Council Bluffs, Iowa, he enlisted on Aug. 16, 1862.  He was born Feb. 1, 1838 in Pennsylvania, died June 5, 1885 in Council Bluffs, and was buried in Hazel Dell Township, Pottawattamie County, Iowa.

Norman, James – served as a Private in Company A, 17th Iowa Infantry.  As a resident of Leon, Iowa, age 26, he enlisted on March 22, 1862.  He was born in Ohio in 1839, died June 21, 1919 in Council Bluffs, and buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Obert, Alexius – served as a Private in Company B, 1st Nebraska Infantry. While living in St. Joseph, Missouri, age 31, he enlisted on June 5, 1861 and mustered out Aug 26, 1864 at the expiration of his term.  He was born July 15, 1830 in Germany, died Dec 21, 1886 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and was buried in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

O’Donald, Anthony – served as a Private in Company A, 5th Iowa Cavalry. He enlisted on Feb 29, 1864 at age 28, and transferred to Company A, 5th Veterans Cavalry Consolidated on Aug 8, 1864.  He was born in Ohio on March 11, 1835 and died March 20, 1909.

O’Neill, David J. – served as a Captain in Company A, 3rd Iowa Infantry. He enlisted May 18, 1861, appointed 1st Lieutenant June 10, 1861, and wounded severely in his arm Sept 17, 1861 in Blue Mills, Missouri. He was taken prisoner at the battle of Shiloh, April 6, 1862. He was promoted Captain May 9, 1862 and mustered out June 18, 1864 in Davenport at the expiration of his term of service.  He was born in 1831 in Ireland and died Feb 14, 1914 in Emporia, Kansas.

Orr, Jasper N. – served as a Private in Company G, 1st Missouri Cavalry.  He enlisted April 5, 1862 in Gallatin, Missouri and discharged April 27, 1863 for a disability.

Owen, Ora E. – served as a Corporal in Company C, 40th Iowa Infantry. As a resident of Knoxville, Iowa, he enlisted on Aug. 11, 1862 at age 27.  He was promoted 6th Corporal on June 23, 1864.  He was born in Indiana.

Paddock, Daniel – served as a Private in Company K, 45th Illinois Infantry.  He was born in 1829 and died August 15, 1911 Council Bluffs, Iowa.  He was buried in Fairview Cemetery.

Parady, Joseph – served as a Private in Company K, 16th New York Cavalry.  At age 19, he enlisted on Feb 15, 1864 and discharged Aug. 10, 1865.  He was born March 10, 1848 in Plattsburg, New York, died March 9, 1897 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Parish, Elida – served as a Private in Company B, 8th Missouri Infantry.  He was born Oct. 9, 1841 in Canada and died Sept. 13, 1919 in Edmundson Hospital, Council Bluffs, Iowa.  He was buried in Grange Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Parker, George Albert – served as a Recruit in Company G, 45th Illinois Infantry. He enlisted Feb. 23, 1865 and mustered out July 12, 1865.  He was born March 3, 1846 in Illinois and died July 25, 1921 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.  He was buried in Fairview Cemetery, in the G.A.R. Circle, in Council Bluffs.

Parslow, James – served as a Private in Company H, 1st U.S. Infantry. He enlisted Nov. 21, discharged Nov. 21, 1858, then again, he enlisted July 28, 1858 and discharged July 28, 1864 in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was born on Nov 21, 1838 and died Mar. 18, 1908 in Washington, D. C.

Parsons, H. H. – served as a Private in Company E, 10th Wisconsin Infantry. He joined the Lincoln G.A.R., Post #29 in Council Bluffs, Iowa for a second term in 1904.

Pennington, Joseph L. – served as a Private in Company I, 78th Illinois Infantry as well as Company I, 11th Illinois Cavalry. He enlisted Aug 9, 1862 and discharged with a disability Jan. 19, 1863.  He reenlisted Nov 5, 1863 in Company I, 11th Illinois Cavalry and mustered out Sep. 30, 1865. He was born Feb. 14, 1845 in Mattoon, Illinois, died Aug. 6, 1931 in Missouri Valley, Iowa, and was buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Perrine, Henry W. – served as a Private in Company F, 3rd Wisconsin Infantry.  He enlisted Jan. 26, 1864 and mustered out July 18, 1865.  He died Jan. 17, 1929 at age 85.

Perry, William W. – military record unknown. Joined Lincoln G.A.R. Post 29, Council Bluffs in 1889. He was born in Pennsylvania. His wife’s name was Rebecca and his children: Francis F., Charles C., and Avice T. (all born in Des Moines, Iowa.  He was buried in Woodbine Cemetery, Harrison County, Iowa.

Petzel, Newton R. – served as a Private in Company B, 29th Iowa Infantry.  At age 21, while a resident of Mills County, he enlisted on Jan. 2, 1864 and mustered out Aug. 10, 1865 in New Orleans, Louisiana.  He was born in Illinois.

Phelps, George T. – served as a Private in Company G, 36th Massachusetts Infantry.  He enlisted on Aug. 13, 1862, promoted to Quartermaster Sergeant on Dec 4, 1864 and mustered out June 8, 1865.  He was born July 13, 1841 in New York, died Sep. 14, 1919 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and buried in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Phillips, John Milton – served as a Private in Company A, 10th New York Cavalry. At age 35, he enlisted Sep. 25, 1861 in Syracuse, New York to serve three years. He was transferred to another company in the 2nd Battalion, Veterans Reserve Corp on Oct 1, 1863.  He was born in 1826 and died Sep. 10, 1888 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, with burial in Fairview Cemetery, in the G.A.R. circle, Council Bluffs.

Pickard, Jacob – served as a Private in Company H, 1st Michigan Engineers and Mechanics Regiment. He enlisted Jan. 10, 1863 at Bunker Hill, when he was age 44, and discharged May 30, 1863 with a disability in Louisville, Kentucky.  He was born July 25, 1819 and died Feb. 6, 1897 in Glenwood, Iowa.  He was buried in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Pickard, James – served as a Private in Company G, 8th Kansas Infantry. He enlisted Oct 2, 1861 when he was age 18, and later discharged.  He re-enlisted Jan. 1, 1864 at Strawberry Plains, Tennessee, with Company G, 8th Kansas Veteran Infantry, promoted to Corporal Sep. 1, 1864, promoted to Sergeant Aug. 1, 1865, and honorably discharged on Nov. 28, 1865 at San Antonio, Texas. He died at Glenwood, Iowa in Feb 1897.

Pierce, John H. – served as a Private in Company M, 11th Illinois Infantry. He joined the Lincoln G.A.R. Post #29 in Council Bluffs on April 13, 1882.

Pinney, Charles H. – served as an Assistant Surgeon in the 9th Ohio Cavalry.  He enlisted April 22, 1864 and mustered out July 20, 1865. He was born Aug. 30, 1843 in Elyria, Ohio, died Aug 9, 1894 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and buried in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Ponsett, John G. – served as a Private in Company A, 28th Illinois Infantry.  He was born in Pennsylvania in 1837. He enlisted at Havana [Mason County], Illinois on Aug. 1, 1861 and later mustered out.  He re-enlisted as a veteran on Jan. 5, 1864 in Company A, consolidated and mustered out March 15, 1866.  He died in Council Bluffs.

Porter, Benjamin S. – served as a Captain in Company B, 49th Ohio Infantry.  He enlisted on Aug. 24, 1861, promoted to Major on Sep. 30, 1862, was wounded on Dec. 31, 1862 in the Battle of Stone River, Tennessee, promoted from Major to Lieutenant Colonel on Jan. 1, 1863, and discharged Oct 4, 1863. He was born in 1827 in Ithaca, New York.

Powers, J. R. – military record unknown. Joined the Lincoln G.A.R. Post #29, Council Bluffs, Iowa in 1913.

Pretz, William Harry – served as a Private in Company B, 57th Illinois Infantry. He enlisted Feb 8, 1864 and mustered out July 7, 1865.  He was born March 6, 1848, died March 20, 1922 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Quick, Elias J. – served as a Private in Company I, Tyler Rangers, 2nd Colorado Cavalry [Colorado Territory]. He was sworn in service at Black Hawk, Colorado Territory Aug. 15, 1864 by John Evans, Governor of the Territory and mustered out Oct 14, 1864 by Senator Teller of Colorado. He died Jan. 7, 1932, aged 86 years, 6 months.

Ransom, John Arthur – served as a Private in Company I, 96th Illinois Infantry. He enlisted Aug. 15, 1862 and mustered out June 10, 1865.  He was born Feb. 4, 1842 in Galena, Illinois and died Feb. 25, 1917 in Cresent, Iowa, with burial in Boomer Township, Pottawattamie County, Iowa.

Redden, Isaac – served as a Corporal in Company K, 15th Iowa Infantry.  When he enlisted on Sep. 28, 1864, he was 18 years of age, and a resident of Des Moines, Iowa. He was born on Oct. 3, 1846 in Indiana, died Jan. 21, 1893 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and buried in Downsville Cemetery, Norwalk Township, Pottawattamie County, Iowa.

Reed, Charles F. – served as a Lieutenant in the 2nd Iowa Battery. He enlisted as a resident of Council Bluffs, Iowa at age 38.  He was appointed 2nd Lieutenant on Aug. 26, 1861 and mustered out Aug. 30, 1864 in Davenport, Iowa, at the expiration of his term of service.  He was born April 11, 1823 in Virginia and died Oct. 17, 1889 in Council Bluffs, with burial in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Reed, Joseph R. – served as a Captain in the 2nd Battery, Iowa Light Artillery. While a resident of Adel, Iowa, he enlisted when he was age 26 on Aug. 1, 1861. He was appointed Senior 1st Lieutenant at enlistment and promoted to Captain on Aug. 31, 1864.  He was born March 12, 1835 in Ashland County, Ohio and died April 2, 1925 in Council Bluffs, Iowa with burial in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Reed, Marvin D. – served as a Sergeant in Company I, 15th Illinois Infantry. He enlisted Feb. 25, 1865 and mustered out June 26, 1865.  He was born on April 2, 1836 and died Sep. 25, 1907 in Tecumseh, Nebraska.  He was buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Reed, William T. – served as a Private in Company E, 105th Pennsylvania Infantry. He mustered in on Sep. 4th, 1861 and was discharged Feb. 25, 1863 with a disability.  He died June 10, 1935 in Marshalltown, Iowa and buried in Fisher Cemetery, Underwood, Iowa.

Reichart, Emanuel – served as a Private in Company C, 143rd Pennsylvania Infantry.  He enlisted May 22, 1861 near York, Pennsylvania at age 19.  He mustered in on June 19, 1865 at Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, promoted to Orderly Sergeant in 1863.  He was born June 4, 1845 in Pennsylvania and died Oct. 3, 1940 in Hobart, Oklahoma, with burial in Neola, Iowa.

Reichart, George A. – served as a Private in Company K, 200th Pennsylvania Infantry.  He mustered in on Aug. 26, 1864 and discharged on Feb. 23, 1865 at Petersburg, Virginia.  He was born Feb. 18, 1849 in York County, Pennsylvania and died Feb. 7, 1930 in Kane Township, Pottawattamie County, Iowa.

Reynolds, David Campbell – served as a Private in Company E, 1st Michigan Infantry. He enlisted July 5, 1861 when he was 21 years old, for three years. He was wounded at Gaine’s Mill, Virginia June 27, 1862. He returned to his regiment at Harrison’s Landing, Virginia, July 1862.  He was transferred to the Veteran’s Reserve Corps, Washington, D. C. on Feb. 15, 1864 and discharged Aug. 5, 1865. He was born April 5, 1840 in Cayuga County, New York, and died March 19, 1933 in Council Bluffs, age 92.

Reynolds, Hugh J. – served as a Private in Company B, 16th Wisconsin Infantry. He enlisted Sep. 19, 1864 and mustered out Aug. 17, 1865.  He was born in 1844 and died in Council Bluffs, Iowa with burial in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Rhodabeck, Jesse C. – served as a Captain in Company B, 18th Iowa Infantry. As a resident of Vinton, Iowa, age 34, he enlisted on July 7, 1862, appointed as 5th Sergeant.  He was born in Pennsylvania and died July 30, 1905 in Des Moines, Iowa – burial in Woodland Cemetery, Des Moines.

Rice, John – served as a Private in Company D, 2nd Wisconsin Cavalry.  He enlisted Jan. 18, 1862 while a resident of LaCrosse, Wisconsin and mustered out Feb. 10, 1865 at the expiration of his term.

Rice, William Scott – served as a Sergeant in the 2nd Iowa Battery Light Artillery. He enlisted Aug. 26, 1861, promoted to 4th Sergeant on Oct 1, 1863.  He mustered out and re-enlisted March 28, 1864.  He was born March 8, 1841 in Peoria, Illinois and died April 19, 1904 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.  He was buried in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Richey, James L. – served as a Private in Company K, 15th Iowa Infantry.  At age 25, while living in Knoxville [Marion County], Iowa, he enlisted on Feb. 1, 1862, deserted July 18, 1862 at Corinth, Mississippi, returned from desertion on April 26, 1865, and dishonorably discharged July 18, 1865 at Corinth, Mississippi.  He was born in Michigan.

Richmond, George H. – served as a 1st Lieutenant in Company K, 16th Wisconsin Infantry. He enlisted on Dec. 31, 1863 as a 1st Sergeant, promoted to 1st Lieutenant Nov. 28, 1864 and mustered out July 12, 1865.  He died Dec. 28, 1928 and buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Robie, Royal H. – served as a Private in Company E, 11th New Hampshire Infantry. He was born in Goffstown, New Hampshire and was living there when he enlisted at age 18 on Aug. 22, 1862 as a Private, appointed Corporal, and mustered out June 4, 1865. 

Rock, Alexander M. – served as a Private in Company B, 34th Ohio Infantry. When he was 19, he enlisted on Dec. 5, 1863.  He was wounded June 18, 1864 at the Battle of Lynchburg, Virginia, transferred to Company B, 36th Ohio Infantry on Feb. 28, 1865, and mustered out with his company on July 27, 1865.

Rolf, William S. – served as a Corporal in Company L, 6th Iowa Cavalry. While a resident of Sioux City, Iowa, he enlisted on May 18, 1863, age 18, and mustered out Oct. 17, 1865.

Romine, Roland – served as a Private in Company D, 86th Indiana Infantry.  While a resident of Warren County, Iowa, he mustered in on Aug. 10, 1862, was promoted to Corporal, and mustered out June 6, 1865.

Roney, Ernest C. -  served as a Private in the U.S. Navy. He was born in Ohio and enlisted on Jan. 19, 1864 for one year.  He served on the ships: Clara Dolsen, Gazelle, Ozark, and Great Western, and was discharged Jan. 31, 1865.  He died Sep. 9, 1887.

Roper, William – served as a Private in Company K, 7th Illinois Infantry. He enlisted as a veteran on Dec. 22, 1863, promoted to Sergeant, and mustered out July 9, 1865.  He was born Aug. 12, 1839 in Staley Bridge, England, died Aug. 8, 1927 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and buried in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Ross, John – served as a Private in Company K, 31st Iowa infantry.  He was born March 29, 1847 in Pennsylvania, died June 25, 1932 at the National Military Home in Los Angeles, California, and buried in Oaklawn Cemetery, near Oakland, Iowa.

Rucker, Ambrose N. – served as a Private in Company A, 31st Iowa Infantry.  He enlisted Aug. 9, 1862 and mustered out July 2, 1865 at Davenport, Iowa.  He was born May 12, 1839 in Monroe County, Ohio, died July 1, 1922 at the Iowa Soldiers Home in Marshalltown, Iowa, with burial in Glenwood Cemetery, Glenwood, Iowa.

Rucker, Robert – served as a Private in Company D, 8th Minnesota Infantry.  He enlisted Nov. 17, 1862 at age 27, and mustered out July 11, 1865. He joined the Lincoln G.A.R. Post #29, Council Bluffs, Iowa on Aug. 21, 1884.

Russell, Levi S. – served as a Private in Company I, 11th Massachusetts Infantry. At age 29, he mustered in on June 13, 1861, promoted to 1st Sergeant, wounded Aug. 29, 1862 at Bull Run, Virginia, commissioned 2nd Lieutenant on Oct 28, 1862, 1st Lieutenant on May 4, 1863.  He mustered out June 24, 1864 as 1st Lieutenant of Company F.

Russell, William – served as a Private in Company F, 3rd Pennsylvania Artillery.  He mustered in on Aug. 7, 1863, promoted to Corporal on Sep. 18, 1865, and mustered out on Nov. 9, 1865.  He was born in 1835 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, died March 18, 1907 in Leavenworth, Kansas, and was buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Sackett, Orrin E. – served as a Private in Company C, 114th Illinois Volunteer Infantry.  He enlisted Aug. 11, 1862 in Company A, and mustered out as a Corporal on Aug. 3, 1865.  He was born in 1842, died May 26, 1928 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Sanderson, Charles -  served as a Private in Company D, 7th Kansas Cavalry.  He enlisted Aug 23, 1861 at Quincy, Illinois and discharged Oct. 2, 1865 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.  He was born Dec. 18, 1839 in Sweden, died Jan. 1, 1923 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Sapp, William F. – served as a Colonel in the 2nd Nebraska Cavalry.  He enlisted on Jan 24, 1863 as a Lieutenant Colonel and mustered out Dec. 1, 1863.  He died in 1890.

Savage, William M. – served as a Private in Company D, 34th Illinois Infantry. He enlisted Aug. 26, 1861, was discharged and re-enlisted as a veteran on Dec. 23, 1863.  He mustered out July 12, 1865.  He died on March 12, 1907 at age 67 and was buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Scott, Volney H. – served as a Private in Company B, 34th Iowa Infantry.  At age 25, while living in Palmyra, Iowa, he enlisted on Aug. 12, 1862.  He was promoted to 1st Sergeant on April 1, 1864, reduced to ranks on Nov. 8, 1864, and transferred to Company C, of the 34th Consolidated Battalion on Nov. 12, 1864. He was born in 1834 in Indiana and died Aug. 10, 1900 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, with burial in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Scribner, Alba N. – served as a Private in the 42nd Illinois Infantry. While a resident of Chicago, he enlisted July 22, 1861 and discharged Feb. 24, 1862, having served in the 3rd Class band. He re-enlisted Oct 13, 1862 and promoted to regular company Sergeant.  He was born in 1841 and died June 15, 1920.

Sealy, Robert P. – served as a Colonel in Company G, 45th Illinois Infantry. He enlisted Sep. 17, 1861, promoted to Captain, re-enlisted and mustered April 23, 1863 and promoted to Lieutenant Colonel.  He was born Jan 13, 1835 in Summersetshire, England and died March 14, 1888 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Searle, Edward P. – served as a Private in Company F, 13th New York Infantry.  He enlisted May 14, 1861 in Elmira, New York. He joined the Lincoln G.A.R. Post #29, Council Bluffs in 1895.

Searle, George C. – served as a Private in Company A, 9th Iowa Infantry. At age 18, while a resident of Iowa City, Iowa, he enlisted on Feb. 20, 1864 and discharged for disability on May 11, 1865 at Fort Schuyler, New York harbor. 

Sears, William – served as a Private in Company I, 14th Illinois Infantry.  While a resident of Waverly, Iowa, he enlisted May 25, 1861 and mustered out June 18, 1864.

Sebern, John H. – served as a Private in Company E, 36th Iowa Infantry.  He was born in Indiana.  At age 22, while living in Ottumwa, Iowa, he enlisted on Aug. 22, 1862.  He died on Oct 20, 1928 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and was buried there in Fairview Cemetery.

Sellick, Uriah – served as a Sergeant in Company A, 5th Iowa Infantry. He was born in New York, but was living in Mechanicsville, Iowa, age 26, when he enlisted on Jan 24, 1861 as 3rd Corporal.  He was promoted to 3rd Sergeant on June 1. 1864. 

Sennett, Thomas – served as a Private in Company K, 24th Iowa Volunteer Infantry. He enlisted on July 28, 1862 and mustered out July 17, 1865 at Savannah, Georgia.  He was born on Dec. 23, 1843 in Ireland and died Oct. 9, 1922 in Logan, Iowa, with burial in Neola, Iowa.

Shaw, Alfred J. – served as a Private in Company H, 19th Michigan Infantry.  When he was 18 he enlisted Dec. 17, 1861 and later discharged.  He re-enlisted Feb. 6, 1864 at Rossville, George as a Corporal and mustered out July 19, 1865 in Louisville, Kentucky.

Sherman, Marshall – served as a Private in Company A, 5th Iowa Cavalry. He enlisted Aug 29, 1861 and discharged for a disability Nov. 6, 1862 at Fort Henry, Tennessee.  He re-enlisted in Company L, 6th Iowa Cavalry but was rejected by the mustering officer Feb. 2, 1863 on account of diseased lungs.  He was born in 1842 and died Jan. 24, 1905 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and buried there in Walnut Hill Cemetery.

Sherwood, Lafayette – served as a Private in Company F, 31st Iowa Infantry.  He enlisted Aug. 16, 1862, age 30.  He was born Apr. 14, 1832, 20 miles south of Columbus, Ohio.  He died Oct 2, 1914 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and buried there in Walnut Hill Cemetery.

Simpson, John C. – served as a Private in Company G, 31st Iowa Infantry.  At age 25, he enlisted Aug. 14, 1862.  He was born in 1837 in Indiana and died Jan. 26, 1911 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He was buried in Highland Grove Cemetery, Fairview Township, Jones County, Iowa.

Sloan, William – served as a Private in Company G, 170th Ohio Infantry.  He enlisted May 2, 1864 and mustered out with his company on Sep. 10, 1864 – a 100 day regiment.  He was born Oct 10, 1845 and died Jan. 2, 1927 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Smith, Caleb M. – served as a Private in Company I, 52nd Illinois Infantry.  He enlisted on Sep. 11, 1861, promoted to Sergeant, and mustered out Nov. 2, 1864.

Smith, Daniel J. – served as a Private in Company I, 6th Iowa Infantry. He enlisted July 12, 1861, wounded in the face on Nov. 25, 1863 at Missionary Ridge, Tennessee, and mustered out July 18, 1864 at Davenport, Iowa, the expiration of his term of service.  He was born Feb. 14, 1841 in Iowa and died Mar. 19, 1914 in Missouri Valley, Iowa.

Smith, Fitch – served as a Private in Company D, 104th Illinois Infantry.  He enlisted Aug. 14, 1862 and mustered out June 6, 1865.  He was born Dec. 21, 1838 and died Sep. 3, 1922 in Clarinda, Iowa.  He was buried in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Smith, Silas A. – served as a Private in Company C, 47th Iowa Infantry.  When he was 18, living in Vinton, Iowa, he enlisted on May 21, 1864.  He was born in New York.

Smith, Thomas D. – served as a Private in Company I, 7th Ohio Cavalry.  He enlisted when he was 31 years of age, on Sep. 12, 1862 for a three year term.  He mustered out with his company on July 3, 1865.  He died Apr. 21, 1920.

Sneethen, Rollings A. – served as a Private in Company A, 46th Iowa Infantry.  When he was 18 and living in Monroe County, Iowa, he enlisted on May 18, 1864.  He also served in Company H, 17th Iowa Infantry (then enlisting as Rollings A. Snethen).

Snyder, Charles W. – served as a Private in Company A, 13th Illinois Infantry.  He enlisted Apr. 20, 1861, transferred to the 49th U.S. Colored Infantry as a Sergeant Major, March 1866.  He was born in 1842 in Huntington, Pennsylvania.

Snyder, George W. – served as a Private in Company H, 16th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. When he was 20, he enlisted on Oct 1, 1861.  He was appointed Corporal on May 1, 1864, was sick at Millersburg, Ohio on Oct 14, 1864 and mustered out Oct 31, 1864 by order of the War Department.

Soverign, Lewis – served as a Musician in Company F, 83rd Illinois Infantry.  He enlisted Aug. 13, 1862 and mustered out June 26, 1865.

Sparks, George W. – served as a Private in Company C, 10th Iowa Volunteer Infantry. While living in Jasper County, Iowa, age 17, he enlisted on Oct. 3, 1864 and mustered out on Aug. 15, 1865 at Little Rock, Arkansas.  He was born Feb. 8, 1847 in Lee County, Iowa and died July 3, 1931 at the Iowa Soldiers’ Home in Marshalltown, Iowa.  He was buried in Woodland Cemetery, Lynnville, Iowa.

Spaulding, Joseph A. – served as a Private in Company E, 137th Indiana Infantry. He enlisted May 26, 1864 and mustered out at the expiration of his term.  He died Jan. 31, 1914 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and was buried in Fairview Cemetery there.

Spera, Weidner Harvey – served as a Major in the 17th Pennsylvania Cavalry. He mustered in Oct 24, 1862, promoted from Captain of Company C on Aug. 10, 1864.  He was discharged by General Order on June 20, 1865.  He was born Jan. 26, 1834 in Aphrata, Pennsylvania and died in Council Bluffs, Iowa on Apr. 14, 1921.

Spoor, Allen Miles – served as a Bugler in Company E, 6th Iowa Cavalry. At age 22, and a resident of Council Bluffs, Iowa, he enlisted on Sep. 17, 1862.  He was promoted to Bugler and mustered out on Oct 17, 1865 at Sioux City, Iowa.  He was born Aug 14, 1840 in Vermont and died Dec. 9, 1900 in Butte, Montana, but he was buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Staunch, William H. – served as a Private in Company B, 94th Ohio Infantry.  At age 20, he enlisted on Aug. 10, 1862 and mustered out with his company on June 5, 1865.

Steadman, John J. – served as a Drummer in Company H, 171st Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He enlisted April 27, 1864 for 100 day service when he was age 17.  He mustered out with his company on Aug 20, 1864 at Johnson’s Island, Ohio.  He was born Apr. 4, 1849 in Ashtabula County, Ohio and died Apr. 19, 1941 in Hollywood, California.

Steel, William – served as a Private in Company H, 13th Iowa Infantry. He mustered in on Oct. 4, 1864 and mustered out July 21, 1865 in Louisville, Kentucky.  He was born July 1, 1841 in Harrison County, Ohio and died Feb. 8, 1914, with burial in Lewis Township Cemetery, Pottawattamie County, Iowa.

Stefler, John B. – served as a Private in Company D, 13th Pennsylvania Cavalry.  He mustered in Oct. 7, 1863 and mustered out with his company July 14, 1865.

Sternkie, William – served as a Private in Company D, 7th Illinois Infantry.  He mustered in on July 25, 1861 and discharge with a disability on Nov. 24, 1862.  He was born in 1828 and died Oct. 16, 1924, with burial in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Stewart, Thomas H. – served as a Private in Company K, 1st Oregon Infantry.  He enlisted Apr. 4, 1865 and discharged June 25, 1866.  He was born in 1834 in Ohio and died Mar. 18, 1896 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, with burial in Fairview Cemetery in Council Bluffs.

Strain, John C. – served as a Private in Company C, 4th Iowa Infantry. At age 23, he enlisted June 26, 1861 and also served in Company B, 15th Iowa Infantry.  He was born in Ohio and died May 16, 1909 in the Iowa Soldiers Home in Marshalltown, Iowa.

Strait, Francis Marion – served as a Private in Company E, 23rd Missouri Infantry. He enlisted Dec. 1, 1861 and discharged Dec. 31, 1864 in Savannah, Georgia.  He was born Nov. 10, 1844 in Wabash, Indiana and died Sep. 5, 1938 in Imogene, Iowa, with burial in Memory Cemetery, New Market, Iowa.

Straw, Henry B. – served as a Private in Company I, 29th Wisconsin Infantry. He enlisted Aug. 14, 1862 and discharged with a disability May 22, 1863.  He re-enlisted on May 24, 1864 in the 7th Wisconsin Battalion and mustered out July 20, 1865.  He died Jan. 4, 1912.

Stroud, Sylvester – served as a Private in Company F, 42nd Illinois Infantry.  He enlisted Aug. 10, 1861 and mustered out Jan. 18, 1865.

Stuart, James H. – served as a Private in Company K, 13th Missouri Cavalry. He enlisted Sep. 1, 1864 at St. Aubert, Missouri and mustered out Jan. 11, 1866 at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas.

Stubbs, John – served as a Corporal in Company E, 148th Illinois Infantry.  He enlisted Feb 11, 1865 and mustered out Sep. 5, 1865.  He died in 1894.

Taylor, Charles E. – served as a Private in Company B, 61st Massachusetts Infantry.  At age 19, while living in Agawam [Hampden County, Massachusetts], he enlisted on Sep. 6, 1864 and mustered out June 4, 1865. He was born May 14, 1839 and died July 5, 1883 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, with burial in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Taylor, Nelson A. – served as a Quarter Master in the 13th Vermont Infantry.  While a resident of Montpelier, Vermont, he enlisted on Sep. 24, 1862 as Quarter Master Sergeant, promoted to Quarter Master on Nov. 28, 1862 and mustered out July 21, 1863.  He was born in Vermont in 1832 and died in April 1890, with burial in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Terry, Charles M. – served as a Private in Company K, 4th New York Heavy Artillery.  At age 32 he enlisted on Apr. 28, 1863 in Company B, 11th Artillery, which became Company K, on July 25, 1863.  He was appointed Artificer and mustered out Sep. 26, 1865 in Washington, D. C.

Thomas, Frederick S. – served as a Private in Company A, 137th Illinois Infantry.  He enlisted on May 10, 1864 and mustered out Sep 24, 1864.  He was born Sep. 23, 1845 in Chatham, Columbia County, New York. He became and physician and died on Aug. 14, 1899 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Thomas, Harvey W. – served as a Private in Company B, 2nd Colorado Cavalry.  He enlisted Dec. 6, 1861 and was discharged on Dec 13, 1864. He was born Mar. 9, 1841 in Canada and died July 21, 1933, at age 92 and buried in Glendale Cemetery, Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa.

Thomas, Henley – served as a Private in Company A, 7th Indiana Cavalry. He enlisted on Sep. 17, 1863 and mustered out on Feb. 18, 1866.

Thomas, James S. – served as a Private in Company H, 44th Iowa Infantry.  At age 32, while living in Boone County, Iowa, he enlisted on May 17, 1864.  He was born in Indiana.

Thomas, Philip – served as a Sergeant in Company E, 10th Iowa Infantry. He enlisted on Aug 24, 1861, was wounded in the arm and back severely on Nov. 25, 1863.  He was discharged, but re-enlisted as a veteran and re-mustered in Feb. 1, 1864. He was born in Ohio and died Apr. 5, 1918 at the Iowa Soldiers Home in Marshalltown, Iowa.

Tobey, Samuel I. – served as a Private in Company F, 6th Michigan Infantry.  While a resident of Allegan County, Michigan, age 27, he enlisted on Aug. 20, 1861 as a Hospital Steward.  He was discharged on Jan. 21, 1862.

Tulleys, Lysander Wayland – served as a Private in Company F, 2nd Ohio Infantry and as a Lieutenant Colonel in the 44th Ohio Infantry. He enlisted at age 24 as a Private in Company F, 2nd Ohio Infantry on Apr. 17, 1861.  He was appointed 1st Sergeant June 20, 1861 and mustered out with his company on July 31, 1861 in Columbus, Ohio. At age 26 he enlisted Sep. 5, 1861 as  a Lieutenant Colonel in the 44th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, promoted from Captain in Company D, of the 44th Ohio Infantry on Apr. 9, 1863 and discharged Jan. 30, 1864. He was born June 1, 1835 in Frankfort, Ohio and died Mar. 9, 1922 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Turner, John C. – served as a Private in Company G, 148th Illinois Infantry.  He enlisted Jan. 26, 1865 and mustered out Sep. 5, 1865.  He was born Feb. 28, 1845 in Minersville, Henry County, Illinois and died Oct. 9, 1925 in Corning, Iowa.

Tyler, James D. – served as a Private in Company D, 106th Pennsylvania Infantry. He mustered in on Aug. 27, 1861 as a Private, promoted to Sergeant Major on May 1, 1863, and transferred to Veterans Reserve Corp on Jan. 15, 1864. He was born April 17, 1842 and died April 18, 1927 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, with burial in Fairview Cemetery.

Unthank, William Collins – served as a Private in Company B, 139th Illinois Infantry. He enlisted May 16, 1864 and mustered out Oct 28, 1864.  He was born Jan. 29, 1845 in Fountain City, Indiana and died Feb 27, 1925 in Council Bluffs, Iowa with burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Vanetta, Samuel P. – served as Captain in Company D, 28th Iowa Infantry.  While living in Vinton, Iowa, age 31, he enlisted July 17, 1862 and was appointed Captain. He was born in Pennsylvania.

Verdan, Louis – served as a Private in Company K, 3rd Wisconsin Infantry. As a resident of Mazomanie [Dane County, Wisconsin], he enlisted on May 11, 1864 in the Veteran Corp. and mustered out July 18, 1865.  He was born in Switzerland and died June 18, 1893 at the Iowa Soldiers Home in Marshalltown, Iowa, age 54.

Vernon, James Hall – served as a Private in Company G, 39th New Jersey Infantry.  He enlisted Sep. 15, 1864 and mustered out June 17, 1865.  He was born in England on Feb. 20, 1845 and died Oct. 1, 1931, age 86,  in Council Bluffs, Iowa.  He was buried in Walnut Hill Cemetery in Council Bluffs.

Virtree, John – served as a Private in Company D, 15th Illinois Infantry. He enlisted June 18, 1861, was discharged, and re-enlisted as a veteran on Dec. 3, 1863. He was transferred to Company C of the Veterans Battalion.

Vuagniaux, Frank – served as a Private in Company E, 130th Illinois Infantry. He enlisted Sep. 5, 1862, transferred to Company G, 77th Illinois Infantry.  He was born in Moudon, Switzerland on July 20, 1835 and died in Council Bluffs, Iowa on March 7, 1916 with burial in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Wagoner, Conrad – served as a Private in Company E, 13th Michigan Infantry. At age 33, while living in Three Rivers [St. Joseph County, Michigan], he enlisted Feb. 25, 1864 at Lockport, Michigan. He mustered out July 25, 1865 at Louisville, Kentucky. He died in Council Bluffs, Iowa and buried in Fairview Cemetery there.

Walker, Alphonso Bliss – served as a Private in Company I, 154th Ohio Infantry. At age 27, he enlisted on May 2, 1864 in a 100 day Regiment.  He mustered out Sep. 1, 1864 with his company.  He was born Apr. 2, 1837 in Eklhart County, Indiana and died May 13, 1924 in Council Bluffs, Iowa with burial in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Walker, William L. – served as a Private in Company D, 13th Illinois Infantry. While living in Rock Island County, Illinois, he enlisted May 24, 1861 and discharged with a disability on Sep. 5, 1863.  He was born in 1835 in Pennsylvania and died June 13, 1892 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Wall, William R. – served as a 1st Lieutenant, Captain, and Major Captain. In Company B, 8th Indiana Infantry and 9th Indiana Cavalry. He was commissioned Aug. 19, 1861, resigned Jan 17, 1863, re-enlisted, commissioned Captain Dec. 9, 1863, promoted to Major by Dec. 9, 1864, and mustered out with his regiment Aug. 28, 1865.  He was born Feb 28, 1822 in Knoxville, Tenn., and died Sep. 4, 1910 in Hinton, Mills County, Iowa.

Wandling, Jacob A. – served as a Private in Company I, 34th and 38th Consolidated Iowa Infantry.  At age 18, he enlisted Dec. 11, 1863 in Company H, 33rd Iowa Infantry and transferred to Company I, 34th & 38th Consolidated Infantry on July 12, 1865. He was born in Ohio on Apr. 20, 1845 and died in Keswick, Iowa on Oct. 24, 1924.

Ward, John – served as a Private H, 1st Nebraska Infantry.  He enlisted June 13, 1861, mustered in as a Musician, and mustered out as a Bugler on Aug. 24, 1864.  He died in December 1914.

Ward, John H. – served as a Corporal in Company C, 36th Illinois Infantry.  While living in Tompkins, Illinois, he enlisted July 28, 1861 and mustered out Sep. 23, 1864.  He was born in 1838 and died in 1915, with burial in Sugar Grove Cemetery, Mound Prairie Township [Houston County, Minnesota].

Warren, Charles H. – served as a Corporal in Company C, 50th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry. He enlisted Aug. 22, 1862 and discharged July 23, 1863 at Port Hudson, Louisiana. He re-enlisted and mustered in July 24, 1863 as a Private in Company A, Head Quarters Troops, Department of the Gulf, Louisiana, then transferred in Dec. 1864 to Company I, 1st New Orleans Infantry and mustered out June 1, 1866.

Waters, Randolph H. – served as a Drummer in Company E, 7th Iowa Infantry.  At age 17, and a resident of Keokuk, Iowa, he enlisted Jan. 4, 1864 and promoted to Drummer.

Weatherbee, Michael – served as a Private in Company C, 7th Michigan Cavalry.  At age 26, he enlisted Feb 17, 1865 at Grand Rapids, Michigan and discharged June 14, 1865 at Cumberland, Maryland.  He died June 30, 1915.

Weaver, John P. – served as a Corporal in Company H, 21st Pennsylvania Cavalry. He enlisted Feb. 12, 1864 for a three year service. He mustered out with his company on July 8, 1865.

Weaver, Josiah J. – served as a Corporal in Company H, 17th Vermont Infantry. As a resident of Bristol [Addison County, Vermont], he enlisted Sep. 28, 1863, reduced to ranks, Dec. 23, 1864, wounded April 2, 1865 and discharged for his wounds June 12, 1865.  He was buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Weaver, Lyman F. – served as a Private in Company C, 9th Vermont Infantry.  While living in Bristol [Addison County, Vermont], he enlisted July 26, 1864 and mustered out June 13, 1865.

Webster, Byron D. – served as a Private in Company C, 24th Iowa Infantry. At age 21, while living in Tipton, Iowa, he enlisted Aug. 11, 1862.  He died Aug. 29, 1890 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Weeks, Charles – served as a Private in Company K, 14th Wisconsin Infantry. As a resident of Lamartine [ Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin], he enlisted Jan. 19, 1864 and mustered out Oct 9, 1865.

Welch, Peter – served as a Private in Company C, 105th Illinois Infantry. He enlisted Aug. 14, 1862 and was discharged Mar. 23, 1865 for wounds.  He was born in Genesee County, New York and died Oct. 3, 1889 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.  He was buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Were, C. F. – no service record. Listed as a member of Lincoln G.A.R. Post #29, Council Bluffs, Iowa, but no membership date given.

West, Francis M. – served as a Private in Company H, 40th Iowa Infantry. While living in Red Rock [Marion County, Iowa], age 22, he enlisted on Aug. 15, 1862.  He was born July 7, 1840 in Ohio and died Aug. 17, 1903 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, with burial in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

West, James – served as a Private in Company A, 9th Iowa Infantry. He enlisted Sep. 24, 1861 and was wounded in the knee March 7, 1862 at Pea Ridge, Arkansas.  He was born in Canada.

Whipple, David – served as a Sergeant in Company G, 1st Connecticut Cavalry.  As a resident of Montville, Connecticut, he enlisted on Jan. 22, 1864 as a Private. He was promoted to Corporal on Dec. 1, 1864, promoted to Sergeant June 1, 1865, and mustered out Aug. 2, 1865.

White, James F. – served as a Corporal in Company K, 10th Indiana Infantry. While living in Tippecanoe County, Indiana, he mustered in on Sep. 8, 1861, in a three year regiment.  He was appointed Sergeant and mustered out on Sep. 19, 1864.  He was born Apr. 20, 1842 in Abington, Virginia, and died Sep. 19, 1894 of consumption in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Whitmore, Pascho – served as a Private in Company D, 1st Michigan Cavalry. At age 21, he enlisted Sep. 24, 1854 at Alexandria, transferred to Company G, on Nov. 17, 1865, and mustered out March 10, 1866 at Salt Lake City.  He died Sep 10, 1907.

Whittel, Hugh B. – served as a Private in Company A, 25th Iowa Infantry. He was born Apr 4, 1842 in Ireland and when 21 years of age, enlisted Aug. 6, 1862.  He was wounded severely Nov. 27, 1863 in Ringgold, Georgia, and mustered out June 6, 1865 in Washington, D. C.  He died in Council Bluffs, Iowa Nov. 16, 1916 and was buried there in Walnut Hill Cemetery.

Wicks, George W. – served as a Corporal in Company A and Company M, 2nd Colorado Cavalry as well as Company A, 1st Colorado Infantry.  He was born in Pottawattamie County, Iowa and died in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Willetts, Lewis – served as a Private in Company D, 1st New Jersey Artillery. He enlisted Feb. 25, 1864 and mustered out June 17, 1865.

Williams, John F. – served as a Private in Company B, 7th Iowa Infantry. He enlisted Aug. 20, 1861, was discharged, and re-enlisted Jan. 5, 1864.  He also served in Company I, 9th Iowa Infantry.  He was born in Indiana.

Williams, John Morgan – served as a Private in Company E, 53rd Illinois Infantry. He enlisted on Dec. 3, 1864 as a substitute, and mustered out July 12, 1865.  He was born Aug. 30, 1847 in Jefferson County, Pennsylvania and died Mar. 24, 1938 in Glendale, California, age 90.  He was buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Williams, John P. – served as a Captain in Company A, 29th Iowa Infantry.  When he was 37, he enlisted Aug. 7, 1862, appointed as a Captain, and resigned Feb. 18, 1863 at Young’s Point, Louisiana.  He was born Jan. 21, 1825 in Windsor County, Vermont and died Aug. 22, 1908 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Williams, Ludwig V. – served as a Private in Company C, 8th Illinois Cavalry. He enlisted Sep. 2, 1861, mustered out and re-enlisted Nov. 30, 1863.  He mustered out July 17, 1865.  He was born in 1839 in Germany and died Feb. 16, 1906 with burial in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Williams, Richard E. – served as a Corporal in Company E, 17th Iowa Infantry. When he was 19 years old he enlisted March 7, 1862.  He was born in Ohio.

Williams, Robert L. – served as a Private in Company K, 53rd Pennsylvania Infantry. He mustered in on Feb. 2, 1864. He joined the Lincoln G.A.R. Post #29, Council Bluffs, Iowa on Aug. 21, 1884.

Witter, David R. – served as a Corporal in Company F, 46th Iowa Infantry. While living in Delaware County, Iowa, age 21, he enlisted May 18, 1864 as 6th Corporal.  He was born Feb. 11, 1843 in Indiana and died May 27, 1926 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and buried there in Fairview Cemetery.

Wolfe, Flavius M. – served as Corporal in Company H, 75th Illinois Infantry.  As a resident of Genessee, Illinois, he enlisted on Aug. 9, 1862, promoted, and at the end of his term, he re-enlisted June 6, 1865.  He was promoted to Sergeant and mustered out June 12, 1865.

Woodring, William H. – served as a Private in Company D, 13th Illinois Infantry. While living in Rock Island County, Illinois, he enlisted May 24, 1861 and mustered out June 22, 1864.  He died Jan. 11, 1925.

Woolever, George – served as a Private in Company I, 13th Wisconsin Infantry. He enlisted Feb. 26, 1864 and mustered out June 2, 1865. He was buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Wright, Beeny H. – served as a Private in Company H, 47th Iowa Volunteer Infantry. While living in Keokuk County, Iowa, at age 18, he enlisted on May 14, 1864 and mustered out Sep. 28, 1864 in Davenport, Iowa, at the expiration of his term of service.  He was born in Ohio on Feb. 27, 1847 and died in Jan. 1925 in Highmore, South Dakota.

Wright, Joseph T. – served as a Private in Company F, 15th Illinois Cavalry. He was born in Kentucky and died Nov. 20, 1910 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, age 69.  He was buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Wright, Thomas J. – served as a Private in Company D, 97th Indiana Infantry. While a resident of Bainbridge, Illinois, he enlisted on Aug. 16, 1862, was promoted to Sergeant, and mustered out July 14, 1865. He was born Oct. 23, 1830 in Greencastle, Indiana and died May 22, 1902 in Gaylord, Kansas.  He was buried in Glenwood Cemetery, Glenwood, Iowa.

Wright, Tilghman A. – served as a Wagoner in Company I, 27th Indiana Infantry. While living in Putnam County, Indiana, he mustered into the service Sep. 12, 1861 and mustered out Sep. 1, 1864.  He was born Nov. 21, 1841 and died Dec. 11, 1923 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Wright, Walter S. – served as a Private in Company D, 21st Massachusetts Infantry. At age 20, while living in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, he enlisted on Aug. 10, 1861 and was discharged with a disability on Dec. 6, 1862.

Wykoff, William V. – served as a Private in Company G, 178th Pennsylvania Infantry. He mustered in on Nov. 2, 1862 and mustered out with his company on July 27, 1863.  He was born Aug. 29, 1832 and died July 18, 1914. He was buried in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Wynkoop, Gerodes – served as a Corporal in Company C, 11th Iowa Infantry. He was born in Ohio, and while living in Wapello County, Iowa at age 19, he enlisted on Sep. 23, 1861 and promoted 7th Corporal on Jan. 13, 1862, then 6th Corporal on Jan. 17, 1862. He mustered out, but re-enlisted as a veteran Jan. 1, 1864, wounded in his right shoulder Jan. 22, 1864 near Atlanta, Georgia, and mustered out July 15, 1865 at Louisville, Kentucky.

Yancy, John – served as a Private in Company K, 45th Illinois Infantry.  He enlisted Dec. 16, 1861 and was discharged with a disability on July 20, 1862.  He was buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Yocum, Nicholas – served as a Private in Company C, 2nd Battalion of the 16th U. S. Infantry.  At age 18 he enlisted Sep. 16, 1862 at Dubuque, Iowa and discharged Sep. 16, 1865 at Nashville, Tennessee.  He was born June 11, 1844 in Germany and died Sep. 23, 1929 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
