Aldrich, Edwin J. – served as a Lieutenant in Company B., 17th Iowa Infantry. He enlisted at age 38, appointed 1st Lieutenant Feb 28, 1862, promoted Quartermaster Apr 18, 1962, resigned to accept a promotion as Captain and Commissary of Subsistence of U.S. Volunteers, Jan 20, 1963, at Memphis, TN. He was born Aug 15, 1823 in Adams County, Massachusetts and died Oct 29, 1898 in Avoca, Iowa, with burial in Graceland Cemetery, Avoca.

Archer, Benjamin F. – served as a Private in Company I, 22nd Iowa Infantry, enlisted Aug 18, 1862 at age 25 and mustered out July 25, 1865.  He was born in 1837 in Marsh County Virginia, died July 26, 1888 in Avoca, Iowa and was buried in Graceland Cemetery, Avoca.

Austin, Michael – served as a Private in Company C, 22nd Michigan Infantry, enlisting Feb 15, 1864 at Pontiac for 3 years, age 23.  He joined his regiment at Chattanooga, TN on Mar 22, 1864, and then transferred to Company C, 29th Infantry on June 26, 1865.  He mustered out Sep 6, 1865 at Murfreesboro, TN.  He was born Sep 25, 1841 in Ireland, died May 12, 1920 in Avoca, and buried in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Avoca.

Blair, William – served as a Private in Company C, 80th Ohio Infantry, enlisting at age 24 on Dec 10, 1861.  He was discharged July 10, 1862 at Columbus, Ohio on a sergeant’s certificate of disability. He was born Oct 26, 1837 in Tuscarawas County, Ohio and died June 30, 1892 in Hancock, Pottawattamie County, Iowa, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery with a government stone.

Beswick, Oren E. – served as a Corporal in Company B., 102nd Illinois Infantry, enlisted Aug 22, 1862, and mustered out June 6, 1865.  He was born in 1840 in Ohio, occupation, carpenter.  He died Mar 22, 1920 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Bunnell, Byron L. – served as a Private in Company H, 26th Iowa Infantry, enlisting at age 22, on Aug 8, 1862 and mustered out June 6, 1865.  He was born Mar 30, 1840 in Portage County, Ohio, and died May 7, 1936 in Mitchellville, Iowa.

Bunnell, Joseph A. – served as a Private in Company M, 9th Iowa Cavalry. At age 27 he enlisted on Oct 14, 1863 and mustered out Feb 3, 1866.  He was born on Jan 10, 1836 in Shellsborough, Ohio and died Nov 29, 1906 in Avoca, with burial in Graceland Cemetery, Avoca. His parent’s were Charles and Margaret Bunnell. He had 2 wives, the 1st, Sarah Jane Hendley and the 2nd Lulu.  His children included Albert, Amanda J. Palmer, Walter E., George E., Ole E., and Rose.

Bushong, George W.
– served at a Private in Company F, 10th Iowa Infantry, enlisting at age 27, Aug 22, 1861. He was promoted to 6th Corporal May 1, 1862, 4th Corporal May 1, 1863, transferred to Invalid Corp. on Nov 20, 1863, discharged Oct 11, 1864, at which time he was a Corporal in Company K, of the 4th Veteran Reserves. He was born in Ohio.

Campbell, William E. – served as a Private in Company K, 20th Iowa Infantry, enlisted Aug 14, 1862 and discharged for disability Jan 31, 1863. He was born in Pennsylvania Dec 30, 1841 and died Apr 2, 1925 in Avoca, Iowa, buried in Graceland Cemetery, Avoca, Iowa.

Carter, William A. – served as a Corporal in Company D, 20th Iowa Infantry, enlisted Aug 12, 1862, promoted to 7th Corporal on May 23, 1865, mustered out July 8, 1865.  He was born July 17, 1837 in Logansport, Indiana and died Feb 28, 1900 in Corley [Shelby County], Iowa, buried in Corley Cemetery, Corley, Iowa.

Confarr, William N. – served as a Private in Company D, 146th Ohio Infantry.  He enlisted at age 30 on May 2, 1864 and mustered out with his company on Sept. 7, 1863, for 100 day service. He was born in Frederica County, Virginia and his occupation was mechanic.

Consigny, Eugene A. – served at an Adjutant Lieutenant in Company M, 1st Vermont Cavalry. He was promoted 1st Sergeant Nov. 11, 1864, 1st Lieutenant Feb 9, 1865, and mustered out Aug 9, 1865.  He was born May 15, 1841 in Quebec, Canada, died Aug 8, 1900 in Manitou, Colorado, and was buried in Graceland Cemetery, Avoca, Iowa. Cool, John – served as a Lieutenant in Company I, 8th Illinois Cavalry, enlisted Sept 18, 1861 and resigned Sept 1, 1862. He was born Apr 2, 1824 in Canada and died Nov 29, 1898 in Avoca, Iowa.  His father was Benjamin Cool and mother, Phoebe Hielenholt. His first wife was Sarah Carleton who died Feb 7, 1867 and second wife was Margaret Kimball.

Cox, Alfred B. – served at a Private in Company C, 16th Iowa Infantry, enlisted Nov 27, 1861 and discharged Dec 18, 1864.  He was born July 16, 1830 in Tippecanoe County, Indiana and died Mar 6, 1902 at the Iowa Soldier’s Home in Marshalltown, Iowa.

Crum, Columbus W. – served as a Private in Company D, 34th Illinois Infantry, enlisted Feb 22, 1864 and mustered out July 12, 1865.  He was born Mar 19, 1849 in Ohio and his occupation was farmer.

Crum, Franklin H. – served as a Private in Company C, 34th Illinois Infantry, enlisted Dec. 9, 1863 and mustered out July 12, 1865.  He was born Oct 5, 1845 in Loraine County, Ohio and died June 29, 1901 in Avoca, Iowa, buried in Graceland Cemetery, Avoca, Iowa.

Curtis, John Henry – served as a Private in Company D, 135th Illinois Infantry, enlisted Mar. 11, 1864 and discharged Oct 28, 1864.  He was born July 17, 1847 in Warren County, Illinois and died Aug. 2, 1918, Chanute, Kansas, with burial in Graceland Cemetery, Avoca, Iowa.

Davis, William C. – served as a Private in Company K, 7th Iowa Infantry. At age 22, he enlisted on Sept. 10, 1862 and mustered out May 28, 1865 at the expiration of his service term.  He was born Oct. 11, 1840 in Gibson County, Indiana and died Nov. 12, 1907 in Osceola, Iowa with burial in Maple Hill Cemetery, Osceola, Iowa.

Dearth, Jacob – served as  Private in Company B, 118th Ohio Infantry, enlisted at age 39 on Aug. 7, 1862 and discharged Dec 2, 1863 at Camp Dennison, Ohio on a surgeon’s certificate of disability. He was born in Bucks County, Pennsylvania and his occupation was mechanic.

Dennis, Stephen R. – served as a Private in Company H, 48th Wisconsin Infantry. He was born Mar. 12, 1846 in Ohio and died July 19, 1921 in the Soldier’s Home, Leavenworth, Kansas. His wife was Charlotte E. Deming Dean Dennis, born Dec 4, 1844, married Nov 4, 1869 in Decorah, Iowa, died Dec 30, 1889.

Donaldson, Egbert B. – served as a Private in Company K, 20th Iowa Infantry, enlisted at age 18 on Aug. 14, 1862 and mustered out on July 8, 1865.  He was born Jan. 27, 1844 in Pleasant Valley, Iowa and died Sept. 17, 1925 in Avoca, Iowa, with burial in Graceland Cemetery, Avoca, Iowa.

Doogs, Charles – served as a Private in Company K, 13th Ohio Infantry, enlisted at age 38 on June 26, 1861 and mustered out June 26, 1864 for a 3 year service.  He was born Apr. 6, 1827 in Prussia and died May 1, 1901 in Avoca, Iowa, with burial in Graceland Cemetery, Avoca, Iowa.

Doty, Milo L. – served as a Private in Company C, 13th Iowa Infantry, enlisted at age 33 on Sept. 28, 1861, promoted to 4th Corporal on Dec. 16, 1861, transferred to Company G, 34th Iowa Infantry and promoted to 2nd Lieutenant on Oct. 13, 1862.

Dudley, George – served as a Private in Company F, 7th Indiana Cavalry, mustered Sept. 3, 1863, transferred to Company C, 7th Indiana Cavalry Re-organized, and mustered out Feb. 18, 1866.  He was born Nov. 24, 1843 in LaPorte, Portage County, Indiana and died Apr. 24, 1916 in Norfolk, Nebraska, with burial in Center Township Cemetery, Pottawattamie County, Iowa.

Dulin, Thomas – served as a Private in Company L, 2nd Iowa Cavalry as a veteran, age 23.  He enlisted Aug. 18, 1862, reenlisted and mustered Mar 1, 1864, promoted 2nd Corporal on Nov. 1, 1864, and mustered out Sept. 19, 1865.  He was born in Ohio, and his occupation was farmer.

Dunham, Charles LeForrest – served as a Private in Company C, 129th Illinois Infantry, enlisted Aug. 20, 1862 and mustered out June 8, 1865.  He was born July 26, 1842 in Oneida, Oneida County, New York, died May 9, 1929 in Omaha, Nebraska, with burial in Graceland Cemetery, Avoca, Iowa.

Dusher, John – served as a Private in Company I, 10th Missouri Infantry, enlisted Feb. 1, 1865 in Sullivan County, Missouri and mustered out Sept. 4, 1865. He was born in Indiana and his occupation was engineer.

Elwell, William E. – served as a Private in Company D, 7th Illinois Cavalry, enlisted Nov. 9, 1863 and discharged Nov. 4, 1865.  He was born in Indiana and died Aug. 16, 1900. His wife was Rogina Enke and children: Bertha A., Ira Weston, George H., Clara, and Maggie B.

Foster, Charles P. – served as a Private in Company H, Wisconsin Infantry, enlisted Aug. 31, 1864, mustered out June 24, 1865.  He was born March 12, 1836 in St. Lawrence, New York, died April 5, 1917 in Shelby, Iowa, with burial in Shelby Cemetery, Shelby, Iowa.

Francisco, John – served as a 1st Lieutenant in Company K, 22nd Iowa Infantry, enlisted at age 38, appointed 1st Lieutenant on Aug 9, 1862, resigned March 4, 1864.  He was born Dec. 29, 1824 in Virginia, died March 25, 1893 in Harrison County, with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery, St. John Township, Missouri Valley, Iowa.

Frantz, William – served as a Private in Company B, 13th Iowa Infantry, enlisted at age 23, on Oct. 7, 1861, reenlisted and mustered Jan. 1, 1864, and mustered out July 21, 1865.  He was born Aug. 26, 1935 in Pennsylvania, died March 27, 1903 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Gage, Aral LeRoy – served as a Private in the 8th Illinois Cavalry, enlisted Jan. 16, 1864 and mustered out July 17, 1865. He was born Jan. 10, 1846 in Winnebago County, Illinois, died Sept. 1, 1890 in Avoca, Iowa and buried in Graceland Cemetery, Avoca, Iowa.

Gingres, Joseph – served as a Private in Company C, 10th Vermont Infantry, enlisted Dec. 10, 1863, transferred to the 5th Vermont Infantry and mustered out June 29, 1865.  He was born April 1, 1844 in Canada with occupation, farmer.

Grothe, George – served as a Private in Company C, 34th Illinois Infantry, enlisted Oct. 1, 1861 and mustered out July 12, 1865. He was born Oct. 18, 1838 in Pennsylvania and died in 1896. His occupation was teamster.

Hake, Benjamin Franklin – served as a Private in Company I, 11th Wisconsin Infantry, enlisted March 31, 1864 and mustered out Sept. 4, 1865.  He was born May 25, 1846 in Ohio, died May 27, 1913 in Worland, Wyoming, and buried in Graceland Cemetery, Avoca, Iowa.

Hake, James Austin – served as a Private in Company I, 11th Wisconsin Infantry, enlisted Oct. 5, 1861, reenlisted as a veteran, promoted to Corporal and Sergeant, wounded at Vicksburg, mustered out Sept. 4, 1865.  He was born Feb 4, 1839 in Ohio; his occupation was farmer at Hake’s Corner.

Hayward, George – served as a Private in Company E, 2nd Iowa Cavalry, enlisted at age 23 on Aug. 16, 1861 and mustered out Oct. 3, 1864.  He was born April 25, 1838 in Scott County, Iowa and died Nov. 24, 1910 on a farm between Avoca and Harlan, Iowa.

Healy, Cornelius Jr. – served as a Captain in Company C, 8th New Hampshire Infantry, enlisted Oct. 4, 1861 as a Private, appointed 1st Lieutenant Dec. 20, 1861, appointed Captain of Company K, on Oct. 28, 1862, discharge with a disability Nov. 3, 1864.  He was born Sept. 10, 1835 in County Kerry, Ireland, died Nov. 29, 1890 in Avoca, Iowa, with burial in Graceland Cemetery, Avoca.

Heller, Robert – served as a Private in Company A, 9th Iowa Cavalry, enlisted at age 19 on Oct. 14, 1863 and mustered out on Feb. 28, 1866. He was born in 1847 and died June 20, 1886 in Avoca, Iowa, with burial in Graceland Cemetery, Avoca, Iowa.

Higbee, David – served as a Captain in Company K, 22nd Iowa Infantry. At age 25, residence, Iowa City, he enlisted on Aug. 22, 1862 as 1st Corporal.  He was born March 19, 1837 in Ashland County, Ohio, died Oct. 16, 1907 and buried in Grinnell, Iowa.

How, Francis – served as a Sergeant in Company L, 13th New York Heavy Artillery.  At age 24, he enlisted in Company K, 13th New York Heavy Artillery on Feb. 6, 1864 for a three year term.  He was transferred to Company L and promoted to Quarter Master Sergeant, and mustered out with his company on June 28, 1865 at Norfolk, Virginia.  He was born July 24, 1839 in England, died May 28, 1908 in Avoca, Iowa and buried in Graceland Cemetery, Avoca, Iowa.

Hubert, John H. – served as a Private in Company E, 72nd Ohio Infantry and in Company F, 95th Ohio Infantry.  He enlisted at age 19 on Feb. 23, 1865 for three years and mustered out Sept. 6, 1865 at Camp Dennison, Ohio with Company F, 95th Ohio Volunteer Infantry by order of the War Department. He was born Feb. 1, 1847 in Coshocton, Ohio and died July 27, 1930 in Clarinda, Iowa.

Jackson, John B. – served as a Private in the 6th Wisconsin Battery of Light Artillery.  His residence was Prairie du Sac when he enlisted on Sept. 20, 1861. He was promoted to Sergeant, wounded at Corinth, Mississippi, and mustered out Oct. 10, 1864 at the expiration of term. He was born March 15, 1835 in Chesterville, Ohio.

Jacobs, Lawrence J. – served as a Private in Company L, 17th Illinois Cavalry, enlisted Dec. 30, 1863 and mustered out Dec. 20, 1865 as a farrier [taking care of horses]. He was born in Germany and his occupation was blacksmith.

Johnson, Alonzo – served as a Private in Company I, 15th Michigan Infantry. At age 24 he was drafted on Feb. 10, 1863 for 9 months service.  He was assigned to Company I, 15th Michigan Infantry and discharged Nov. 10, 1863 at Bridgeport, Alabama at the expiration of his term of service.  He was born Oct. 27, 1837 in East Bloomfe, New York, died Dec. 7, 1920 in Marshalltown, Iowa, and buried in Graceland Cemetery, Avoca, Iowa.

King, Charles O. – served as a 2nd Lieutenant in Company I, 3rd Michigan Cavalry.  He enlisted Sept. 17, 1861 in Company C., 3rd Michigan Cavalry at Arlington for 3 years, reenlisted as Corporal Jan 19, 1864 at LaGrange, Tenn., promoted to Sergeant Mar. 22, 1864, transferred to Company I, on June 9, 1865, mustered out on Feb. 12, 1866 at San Antonio, Texas. He was born Dec. 31, 1837 in New York, died Feb. 24, 1887 in Valley Township, Pottawattamie County, Iowa, and buried in Graceland Cemetery, Avoca, Iowa.

Leslie, Felix N. – served at a Private in Company G, 20th Iowa Infantry, enlisting at age 21 on Aug. 15, 1862 and mustered out on July 8, 1865.  He was born Jan. 20, 1842 in Trenton, Pennsylvania, died Nov. 17, 1919 in Avoca, Iowa and buried in Graceland Cemetery, Avoca, Iowa.

Leslie, William M. – served as a Private in Company A, 14th Iowa Infantry, enlisting at age 19 on Aug. 21, 1862 and mustered out Nov. 16, 1864.  He was born on May 31, 1843 in Torrenten, Pennsylvania, died Sept. 9, 1920 in Avoca, Iowa, and buried in Graceland Cemetery, Avoca, Iowa.

Liggett, Joseph – served as a Private in Company C, 73rd Indiana Volunteer Infantry, enlisted Aug. 16, 1862 and mustered out July 1, 1865.  He was born in North Liberty, Indiana, died Jan. 13, 1900 in Avoca, Iowa and was buried in Graceland Cemetery, Avoca, Iowa.

Livingston, James – served as a Private in Company C, 2nd Iowa Cavalry.  He enlisted Aug 14, 1862, reenlisted Mar. 1, 1864, promoted to 1st Corporal on Sept. 1, 1865 and mustered out Sept. 19, 1865 at Selma, Alabama.  He was born May 27, 1839 in Mercer County, Pennsylvania, died May 27, 1916 at Geddes, South Dakota, and buried in Graceland Cemetery, Avoca, Iowa.

Locke, Henry Fernando – served as a Private in Company I, 4th Wisconsin Cavalry, enlisted on Dec. 26, 1863 as a blacksmith, transferred to Company D, 4th Wisconsin Cavalry on Aug. 23, 1865, then mustered out on Aug 29, 1865.  He was born Oct. 7, 1835 in Allegany County, New York, died Aug. 28, 1911 in Logan, Iowa, and buried in Logan Cemetery, Logan, Iowa.

Long, Joseph M. – served as Captain in Company C, 53rd Ohio Infantry, enlisting at age 26 as a Private on Sept. 17, 1861, appointed to Sergeant on Nov. 8, 1861, promoted to 2nd Lieutenant on July 8, 1861, 1st Lieutenant on March 1, 1864 and Captain on Sept. 26, 1864.  He mustered out with his company on Aug. 11, 1865.  He was born March 27, 1835 in Ross County, Ohio, died April 25, 1917 in Avoca, Iowa and buried in Graceland Cemetery, Avoca, Iowa.

McCain, William H. – served as a Private in Company H, 13th Iowa Infantry, enlisting Oct. 1, 1861. He reenlisted Jan 1, 1864, promoted to 5th Corporal on May 17, 1865 and mustered out July 21, 1865. He was born in Armstrong County, Pennsylvania and his occupation was farmer.

McConnaughey, David S. – served as a Sergeant in Company K, 30th Iowa Infantry.  At age 25 he enlisted on Aug. 16, 1862, and promoted to Quarter Master Sergeant on Oct 12, 1862. He was born July 7, 1837 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, died in 1920, and buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Washington Township, Washington County, Iowa.  He was a physician.

McDonald, Andrew Wilson – served as a Private in Company F, 69th Illinois Infantry, enlisted June 15, 1862 and mustered out Oct. 6, 1862. He was born May 24, 1837 in Jefferson County, Pennsylvania, died Nov. 11, 1911 in Avoca, Iowa and buried in Avoca Cemetery, Avoca, Iowa.

McCart, Alonzo R. – served as a Private in Company F, 7th Iowa Infantry, enlisting at age 18 on Feb. 9, 1864, and mustered out on July 12, 1865.  He was born Feb. 15, 1845 in Orange County, Indiana and died March 4, 1935 in Avoca, Iowa, burial in Carson, Iowa.

Moore, James I. – served as a Private in Company G, 6th Iowa Infantry, enlisted July 8, 1861 and reenlisted Jan. 26, 1864, then mustered out July 21, 1865.  He was born on Jan. 11, 1841 in Fountain County, Indiana, died Feb. 25, 1917 in Avoca, Iowa and buried in Graceland Cemetery, Avoca, Iowa.

Nash, James L. – served as a Private in Company D, 1st New York Cavalry, enlisting at age 22 on Aug 21, 1861 at New York for three years, reenlisted Jan 1, 1864, promoted Corporal on Aug 1, 1864, and mustered out with his company on June 27, 1865 at Alexandria, Virginia.

Newell, Laban W. – served as a Private in Company B, 9th Michigan Infantry, enlisted Aug. 12, 1861 for three years, was in a hospital at West Point, Kentucky on Jan 4, 1862, mustered out Oct 15, 1865. He was born Aug 30, 1840, at Laport County, Indiana.

Nichols, Davis Isaac – served as a Private in Company A, 48th Iowa Infantry, enlisted at age 18 on May 28, 1864, mustered in July 13, 1864, and mustered out Oct 21, 1864 at Rock Island, Illinois at expiration of term.  He was born Dec. 11, 1847 in Ohio, died Dec. 15, 1929 at Oakland, Iowa, and buried in Graceland Cemetery, Avoca, Iowa.

Norton, Charles H. – served as a Private in the 2nd Battery, Iowa Light Artillery, enlisted at age 22 on Aug. 18, 1861, promoted to 4th Corporal July 4, 1862, and mustered out Aug. 30, 1864.  He was born June 13, 1839 in Livingston County, New York, died March 12, 1917 in Clarinda, Iowa, and buried in Graceland Cemetery, Avoca, Iowa.

Olsen, Las – served as a Private in Company E, 88th Pennsylvania Infantry, mustered in March 18, 1865 as a substitute, and mustered out with his company on June 30, 1865.  He was born on Jan. 9, 1835 in Germany, died June 4, 1887 in Hancock, Pottawattamie County, Iowa from suicide.  He was buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, Hancock, Iowa.

Owen, John F. – served as a Private in Company D, 8th Ohio Cavalry, enlisting at age 25 on Aug 13, 1862, was transferred from the 44th Ohio Volunteer Infantry on Jan 4, 1864, mustered out May 30, 1865 by order of the War Department.  He was born Aug 23, 1839 in Xenia, Green County, Ohio, died March 27, 1919 in Hancock, Iowa, and buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, Hancock, Pottawattamie County, Iowa.

Packer, George W. – served as a Private in Company E, 77th New York Infantry, enlisted at age 22, on Aug 27, 1862 for 3 years, mustered as a Private in Company D, captured in action May 5, 1863 at Fredericksburg, Virginia, paroled May 15, 1863 to City Point, VA, transferred to Company E, on Nov 19, 1864, mustered out with detachment on June 16, 1865 in defense of Washington, D. C. He was born Oct. 26, 1847 in Providence, New York, and his occupation was Justice of the Peace.

Patterson, Benjamin F. – served as a Private in Company H, 37th Illinois Infantry, enlisted Aug 20, 1861 and discharged with a disability on June 17, 1862.  He was born Dec. 25, 1841 in Pennsylvania and was buried in Ashton Cemetery, Clear Creek Township, Jasper County, Iowa.

Pendergast, James – served as a Private in Company C, 50th New York Engineers, enlisted at age 26 on Sept. 9, 1861 at Orcutt Creek, Pennsylvania in Company A, transferred to Company C on Nov. 1, 1861, discharged for disability on Dec. 3, 1864 at Providence, Rhode Island.  He was born March 19, 1832 in New York and died in 1893.

Pendroy, John M. – served as a Private in Company E, 14th Iowa Infantry, enlisting at age 22 on Feb. 27, 1862, transferred to Company A, Residuary Battalion, 14th Infantry.  He was born June 4, 1835 in Delaware County, Indiana, died Oct. 18, 1912 in Avoca, Iowa, buried in Graceland Cemetery, Avoca.

Perry, James P. – served as a Corporal in Companies I, 12th Illinois Infantry.  He enlisted April 24, 1861 and was discharged July 17, 1861 for disability. He reenlisted June 1, 1862 at Chicago, Illinois as a Private in Company E, 65th Illinois Infantry, and mustered out June 5, 1865 at Chicago, Illinois as a Corporal. He was born Sept. 10, 1842 at Belmont, Ohio, died May 3, 1893 in Nebraska, and buried in Harlan Cemetery, Harlan, Iowa.

Porter, Joseph – served as a Private in Company K, 6th New York Artillery, at the age of 44, he enlisted on Sept. 23, 1864 at Kingston for one year, and mustered out with his company on June 28, 1865 at Petersburg, Virginia.  He was born July 14, 1822 in Ireland and was buried in Graceland Cemetery, Avoca, Iowa.

Powers, James K. – served as a Private in Company H, 9th Indiana Infantry, enlisted Aug. 14, 1861 for three years, and discharged June 13, 1862 at Indianapolis, Indiana by reason of a gunshot wound at the Battle of Shiloh, Tenn. April 7, 1862.  His right arm was amputated April 23, 1862 at Indianapolis, Indiana.  He reenlisted Oct. 20, 1863 as a Private in the 2nd Battalion Veteran Reserve Corp and discharged Nov. 14, 1865. He was born in 1844 in Lowell, Lake County, Indiana and his occupation was insurance agent.

Reed, Marvin D. – served as a Private in Company I, 15th Illinois Infantry Reorganized, enlisting Feb 25, 1865 and mustered out June 26, 1865.  He was born in New York.

Reshaw, William T. – served as a Private in Company B, 11th Wisconsin Infantry, enlisting Sept. 1, 1864 at Madison, Wisconsin and discharged on June 6, 1865 at Montgomery, Alabama. He was born in Canada, Nov 14, 1947 and age 16 at the time of his enlistment: single, blue eyes, brown hair, light complexion, 5 feet, 4 inches in height, and by occupation, a farmer.

Rhoads, Harrison – served as a Private in Company I, 88th Indiana Infantry, enlisted Aug. 9, 1862 and mustered out as a Corporal on July 6, 1865.  He was born in 1839 in Pennsylvania, died May 9, 1920 at the Iowa Soldier’s Home in Marshalltown, Iowa, and buried in Glendale Cemetery, Des Moines, Iowa.

Ritchie, Wesley W. – served at a Private in Company E, 37th Wisconsin Infantry, enlisted March 29, 1864 at LaCrosse, Wis., wounded July 30, 1864 at Petersburg, Virginia, transferred to Veteran’s Reserve Corp on April 1, 1865, and mustered out Aug. 2, 1865 at Washington, D. C.  He was born Dec. 3, 1837 in West Canada.

Russell, Henry – served as a Private in Company A, 36th Illinois Infantry. He enlisted as a musician in the 1st Brigade, 3rd Division, 17th Army Corp on Aug 20, 1861 and discharged June 17, 1862.  He reenlisted Feb. 28, 1863 in Company A, 36th Illinois Infantry and discharged July 9, 1865.  He was born Oct 22, 1836 in England, died March 23, 1921 in Avoca, Iowa and buried in Graceland Cemetery, Avoca, Iowa.

Sanders, Stephen H. – served as a Private in Company K, 44th Iowa Infantry, enlisted at age 18 on May 5, 1864 and mustered out Sept. 15, 1864 in Davenport, Iowa at the expiration of his term.  He was born March 19, 1846 in Michigan, died April 8, 1914 in Avoca, Iowa and buried in Graceland Cemetery, Knox Township, Pottawattamie County, Iowa.

Sarvis, George W. M. – served as a Private in Company H, 17th Iowa Volunteer Infantry, enlisting on March 22, 1862 at age 21, promoted to 5th Corporal on March26, 1864 and mustered out April 15, 1865.  He was born Sept. 7, 1841 in Greenfield, Missouri, died Nov. 4, 1921 in Avoca, Iowa and buried in Graceland Cemetery, Avoca, Iowa.

Sims, George W. – served as a Private in Company L, 9th Iowa Cavalry, enlisted on Aug. 7, 1863 at age 18 and a resident of Vandalia.  He mustered out Feb. 3, 1866.  He was born Feb. 3, 1846 in Illinois and his occupation was farmer.

Sinclair, Robert A. – served as a Private in Company E, 23rd Iowa Volunteer Infantry, enlisting at age 33 on July 28, 1862.  He was transferred to an Invalid Corp on Sept. 3, 1863.  He was born in Owen County, Indiana, died July 27, 1898 in Garner Township, Pottawattamie County, Iowa.  His occupation was wagon maker.

Smith, Emanuel – served as a Private in Company C, 72nd Ohio Infantry.  He enlisted at age 30 on Nov. 25, 1861 for 3 years, was captured June 11, 1864 near Ripley, Mississippi, and mustered out June 19, 1865 at Camp Chase, Ohio by order of the War Department. He was born in Ohio and died March 20, 1915 in Avoca, Iowa with burial in Graceland Cemetery, Avoca, Iowa.

Stafford, William C. – served as a Private in Company E, 50th Massachusetts Infantry, enlisting Aug. 17, 1862 at age 27, residence, Saugus, occupation, tailor.  He mustered out Aug. 24, 1863.  He was born in Rhode Island and died April 21, 1905.

Sterling, Alonzo S. – served as a Captain in Company G, 8th Missouri Infantry, enlisted Sept. 19, 1863 and mustered out July 9, 1864.  He was born June 30, 1835 in Rushville, Ohio and his occupation was stock dealer.

Stoffels, Mathias – served as a Private in Company E, 26th Iowa Volunteer Infantry, enlisting at age 25 on Aug. 15, 1862.  He was discharged for disability on Feb. 21, 1863 at Young’s Point, Louisiana. He was born Sept. 22, 1836 in Russia, died Jan. 19, 1915 near Avoca, Iowa, and buried in Graceland Cemetery, Avoca, Iowa.

Tittsworth, William – served as a Private in Company B, 18th Missouri Infantry, enlisted March 12, 1864 and mustered out July 18, 1865 at Louisville, Kentucky.  He was born April 9, 1846 in Franklin County, Arkansas, and buried in Graceland Cemetery, Avoca, Iowa.

Tryon, Grosvenor A. – served as a Private in Company I, 47th Iowa Volunteer Infantry, enlisted at age 18 on May 9, 1864 and mustered out Sept. 28, 1864.  He was born May 8, 1849 in Scott County, Iowa, died Nov. 17, 1894 in Avoca, Iowa and buried in Avoca Cemetery, Avoca, Iowa.

Wasser, Jacob – served as a Private in Company E, 98th Pennsylvania Infantry, enlisted Sept. 13, 1861 and discharged May 31, 1863. He was born Aug. 4, 1837 in Muehlhausen, Germany, died July 12, 1923 in Avoca, Iowa and buried in Graceland Cemetery, Avoca, Iowa. He married Mary Steele and his children were: Charles, Caroline, Elsie, and Esther.

Waterbury, Daniel – served as a Private in Company M, 9th Iowa Cavalry, enlisted Oct 14, 1863 and mustered out Feb. 3, 1866.  He was born Feb. 3, 1842 in Onondaga County, New York, died Nov 5, 1905 in Avoca, Iowa and buried in Graceland Cemetery, Avoca, Iowa.

Watts, John – served as a Private in Company K, 10th Iowa Volunteer Infantry, enlisted Sept. 12, 1861 at age 18, transferred to Company B, 10th Iowa Infantry, and discharged June 14, 1862 at St. Louis, Missouri.  He was born Feb. 3, 1843 in Indiana.

Whitaker, Wilson H. – served as a Corporal in Company E, 20th Iowa Infantry, enlisted as a 4th Corporal on Aug. 7, 1862 at age 27 and discharged for disability on Feb. 11, 1863.  He was born Sept. 20, 1834 in Deposit, New York, his occupation was physician, and he died March 11, 1896 in Avoca, Iowa.

Whitsett, Martin K. – served as a Private in Company E, 34th Iowa Infantry, enlisted at age 26, on Aug. 15, 1862 in Company F, 34th Iowa Infantry, transferred to Company E, 34th Consolidated Battalion Nov. 12, 1864. He was born April 1, 1836 in Jefferson County, Indiana, died Dec. 12, 1926 in Macedonia, Iowa and was buried in Macedonia Cemetery.

Willetts, Chester S. – served as a Private in Company K, 102nd Illinois Infantry, enlisted Aug. 27, 1862 and mustered out June 6, 1865. He was born Aug. 17, 1845 in Pennsylvania, died Feb. 15, 1908 in Oakland, Iowa and buried in Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Wokessien, Gustavus – served as a Private in Company E, 17th Illinois Cavalry, enlisted Dec 5, 1863 and mustered out Nov 23, 1865.  He was born Feb. 22, 1849 in Prussia, died Oct. 21, 1901 and buried in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Avoca, Iowa.

Wood, Edwin A. – served as a Private in Company F, 103rd Ohio Infantry, enlisted Aug. 5, 1862 at age 27,  and mustered out with his company on June 12, 1865 from his three years in service.  He was born Aug. 5, 1835 in Fair Haven, Massachusetts, died March 8, 1917 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and buried in Graceland Cemetery, Avoca, Iowa.

Wood, James M. – served as a Private in Company H, 2nd Iowa Cavalry. With is residence in Iowa City, he enlisted at age 39 on Dec. 10, 1863 and mustered out Sept. 19, 1865. He was born in New York.

Worth, Lawrence B. – served as a Private in Company C, 7th Iowa Infantry.  Living in Mahaska County, Iowa, he enlisted at age 26 on July 15, 1861, promoted to 2nd Sergeant on Dec. 1, 1862, and mustered out July 31, 1864.  He was born April 10, 1835 in Mooresville, Indiana, died April 3, 1891 in Platt City, Missouri, and buried in Graceland Cemetery, Avoca, Iowa.
