Nathaniel GITCHELL, b. NY. about 1825, m. Sarah A. DYER Apr. 15, 1851 at Freeport, IL. They lived in Fayette County IA from 1852 to 1862. Children born there were, Lewis, Francis, Mary and Alonzo. One other child Hyram was born at Freeport, IL. Nov. 1864. Nathaniel was in the IL. 46th Infantry Co. K from 1862 to 1865. After the war they lived in IL. (Stephson county). IA. Sidney county, NE. Webster county and back to Iowa, Polk County. Nathaniel dies, July 1, 1901 and Sarah dies Dec. 18, 1915 both at Des Moines. Their son Lewis (now spells name GETCHEL) and daughter Mary WOLF, also living Des Moines. Looking for information on how to and where to search for obituraries on Nathaniel and Sarah. Also trying to track thier descendents. Their son Francis married Marthey or Martha E. HIATT and made their home in NE. mostly around Silver Creek.

I would like information on the HICKEY family in Polk County. Jim and Johanna came from MA 1875-1882 and had two children at Des Moines. They then moved on to Fort Morgan, CO. Kate would be born 1877-1879 and Fred abt 1880. Any help you can give me would be wonderful.

Kenneth Roy was the son of Elmer Lewis and Phoebe Anna (SHERWOOD) LAMB. He married Dorothy OLIVER, no dates known for her. They had six children: Kent, L'Roy, Rebecca, Alice, Roberta, and Nancy. No dates or places of birth known for children. Alice married a ___ BREESE; Roberta married a Lawrence BRICKMAN; Nancy married a William GREENE. Requesting information on children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, etc.

Druzilla MCCORD (parents Samuel and Eleanore MCCORD) born 1842 in PA, died 1903, Polk Co.,IA Married Oliver J. OKEEN in Johnson Cty IA. Oliver OKEEN Born 1832 in Kty.Oliver died 1910 Both Oliver and Druzilla are buried in Union Cem., Crocker Twp., of Polk Co., IA. They had four sons. They are: Cassius L. OKEEN born 1860 died 1895. He is buried by his parents. Son Findley H. OKEEN born about 1864, died 1949 and is buried in Wennebago Co., IA. Son Burtis OKEEN born about 1868 died 1940 buried Orababor Cem., Ankenny,Polk, IA. He married Hattie HALL. Son Charles OKEEN born 1873 died 1941 and is buried beside his parents. Does anyone have any information on this family.If so please contact me. Thank you so much. 


Regina Irene Kopf Noll I am desperately looking for the son I gave up for adoption. He was born March 31, 1968, in Des Moines, Broadlawns Hospital/Booth Memorial Home. His name at birth was Steven Patrick KOPF. Any information will be very greatly appreciated. 


Bill Madden My great great grandmother Emma BALDWIN was born February 21, 1854 at Pleasant Hill, Iowa. Emma's mothers first name was Maryann (last name unknown). Her father was Frank BALDWIN. He was possibly born in Missouri. Emma married Carroll BRADLEY about 1870's. He was from Ireland or Scotland. Emma gave birth to Martha on March 21, 1873 in Missouri. Emma moved from Ohio to Kansas to Seattle, Washington (King County) between 1890-1900. She moved there with her two daughters: Martha (BRADLEY) TAYLOR, Carrie BRADLEY and her son-in-law, James Valentine TAYLOR. She died in Seattle on June 28, 1919. 


Nancy Stetson My grandfather, Martin Remington NELSON, with his wife, Susan HATHAWAY, and three children: Margaret, Philip and Louise, moved to Des Moines from Buffalo, NY approx 1916. I found them in the 1925 state census living on Kingman Blvd. His mother, Mary E. ARNOLD was living with them but I can't find Henry NELSON, his father. I am trying to go back on the NELSON family further than Henry. Also Alvira HATHAWAY, sister of Susan, lived several years in Des Moines from 1920 to approx 1955 where she died in the Old Folks Home. I am also trying to find Micah and Cornelia Bolton HATHAWAY who apparently lived in Ogden, Boone County. They were born in New York but lived the latter part of their lives in Ogden but I can't find any reference to them. Alvira HATHAWAY also lived with Micah in his later years. 


Beverly Przybylski Tabitha Ellen PYE was born Aug 1858 in Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa. Who were her parents and siblings? She married about 1875 to William A. MCDOWELL, who as it turns out, was a member of Co. D, 18th Iowa Infantry. Did they marry in Polk County? Their first child was born in Adair County, Missouri, just south of Des Moines. Looking for parents of Tabitha, siblings of Tabitha and marriage documents. 


Trudy Bay Spanier Looking for information on entire family by the last name of BAY who lived in Des Moines, IA, Polk County in 1858. My Great Grandfather James Franklin BAY (Frank) was born there on July 31, 1858. His parents were David BAY and Mary Ann (NEWMAN) BAY. Other siblings were: William R.; John M.; Charles; Lavina; Humphrey; Elcy; Thomas Benton; Angeline and George Washington. Any information will help. Thanks! 


Catherine Goodwin I am seeking any info. possible on my grandfather, John Joseph PEEL, Sr. who was born in PA, in 1876 and soon thereafter moved to Des Moines. He married Margaret Magdaline PROBERT who was born in Wales/England, date unknown. Neither do I know the date of their marriage. I know John had a brother named Patrick and a number of other siblings. I would like to locate any decendants of any of them. John's father was James PEEL who was born in Co. Monaghan, Ireland. I also want to know any info on Margaret PROBERT, such as place of birth in Wales, when she came to America, her parents names, etc. Thanks for any information.

Mary Edgar Am looking for descendants of Fredrick Augustus and Martha (Dunkel Riley) CHUBBIC, who settled on a farm in Douglas Township, Polk County by 1870. (His first wife was Letitia LUTTON) I would also like to hear from these half-cousins: Fred, died 14 march 1893, in Bondurant, IA. 


Jack O. Benger Searching for any information regarding the following persons buried in Woodland Cemetery, Des Moines, IA.: Anna Jensen LINDE, buried August 4, 1899; Henry H. HARTMAN, buried June 29, 1929; and Amanda D. UTTER, buried June 30, 1960. 


Margie Garr Seeking information on the OLSON family. Thomas William OLSON was born 1876 in KY, he died on 1 March, 1958. He had a son, Ruel OLSON, who prob. died Feb 1976 in Polk County, IA. 


Tim Wyatt Am trying to make link in the WYATT family, part of which from Ontario in the 1860's (?) originally to Council Bluffs but I have clues that lead back to Polk County present day. Two or possibly three WYATT's may have done so around the time described--Ezra R. WYATT; James Edward WAYTT; possibly Eliphalet WYATT; Welsh; Wesleyan Methodists; from Kitley TWP, Ontario; sons of Ezra WYATT, son of Eliphalet Wyatt. 


Barb Roup William A. FLIPSE, b. 1848, Holland, d. 1935, Carthage, MO. He married Pieternella VANHOVE and came to America in 1881. They came to Polk County, Ia and were there in 1885, when their son, William was born. I have been unable to find any info on them in IA. Any help would be appreciated. 


Chuck Shaw Can anyone tell me where Sunrise or Rising Sun, Iowa was? My grandmother, Rosa Zella STUART, was born in Polk County but a sister, Ida Belle, was born in Rising Sun, Iowa. A brother, George Cleveland, was born in Sunrise, Iowa. The most likely are the same place, but I don't know where it was. Also does anyone have any information on the STUART family? I have James Norton STUART born Jan. 29, 1852, married Jemimia STEWARD. I have zero information on the STEWARD family. My grandmother Rosie married George Walter GRAY. I have quite a lot on the GRAY's and some on the STUART's that I would share. 


Greg Harrod I am looking for information about my great grandfather, Daniel HARROD. He and his wife Rachel, and seven children are known to have lived in Des Moines from 1891 till (??) His youngest child, William Alva HARROD, my grandfather, was a musician and played with the John Phillip Sousa band at one time. I am particularly interested to know if Daniel HARROD served in the Civil War, and where he is buried. Thanks!

Willey Seeking information regarding parents of siblings Stephen, b 1817 PA, William, George, Calista, Elizabeth HOWELL all r Polk or Jasper Cos 1840-1863--younger siblings lived with older ones in both places. Mother Elizabeth HOWELL is 50 in 1850 census but not found in 1860--did she die or remarry? Dau Elizabeth m ca 1860 to Charles BARKER who d ca 1862 (CW); Elizabeth remarried Adam ??. Calista m Thomas REES 1855, div by 1863. County history book has story of Calista being lost in wheat fields for several days--lists fa as John HOWELL--no record of a John HOWELL found in either Polk or Jasper Cos. What happened to him? 


Nancy Brousseau John Andrew and Berntina Lund RASMUSSEN, born 1851. Emmigrated to Des Moines, Iowa from Norway, approx. 1882. Berntina was born in Christiansen, Norway in 1855. One daughter, Anna, was born in Norway in 1880. Need info on entry dates and parents names of John and Berntine. Johns fathers name may have been Rasmus Olsen. 


Ron Kyes Searching for death, place of burial or obit for Marjorie AMEND who died 1 Mar 1992 in or around Des Moines. Any help will be greatly appreciated. 


Carmen Halley I am looking for Brice BLAIR, born about 1850 in Ohio to Brice & Nancy BLAIR. He had two brothers, Henry & David. He was in Polk Co., in 1925, according to a deed. He had at least one daughter, Helen Curtis. I would like to know his birth & death dates, wife's name, etc. 


Christina Mollahan My ggg Aunt, Amanda SHARP was born in 1853 in Jefferson Co., IA. She first married Edward HUGGINS and resided in Fairfield, Ia. She later married Francis M. RODGERS and resided in Des Moines, IA. Amanda died there in 1950 and is buried in the Glendale Cemetery. She was not buried beside her husband, Mr. RODGERS. They had two sons that I am trying to locate. Ross I. RODGERS, was born in Polk Co., 1889 and I have never heard what happened to him or where he went. Amanda had another son, James I. HUGGINS, who also disappeared from any records. They were both raised in Des Moines. I would appreciate any info on the two boys of Amanda SHARP-RODGERS. Thank you. 


Lorie Richardson Looking for information on my children's great-grandfather, Harold James RICHARDSON. Born in Des Moines, IA. He was 36 in May, 1936. In 1936 he lived in Eugene, Oregon and worked for Postal Telegraph as a telegrapher. 


Juanita Boutwell Am researching the family of Robert TITMARSH & Bertha BAILEY. Robert was born in England. In 1894 he married Bertha BAILEY (poss. at Des Moines, IA). Bertha was born 17 Sep 1872 in Des Moines, IA, the daughter of John and Thurza BAILEY, both of whom were born in England. The Titmarshs lived in Custer, SD, & Wheatridge, CO. His occupation was minister. Bertha also lived in Chillicothe, MO. I am particularly interested in learning where in England Robert TITMARSH and the Baileys were born.

James d. app. 1930 in Des Moines, IA, Polk Co.. Nancy d 7 Apr, 1888 in ?. Father of James was John (BorT) MCPHERSON married Sabina Holliday/Halada. 


George Calvert Looking for information on Zula Evangeline GROW, b 28 Jan 1892, Des Moines, Polk County, IA. Father was Independence Curtis GROW. Mother was Rosanna Amelia Minerva WENTWORTH. Any help would be appreciated. 


Suzette Thompson Looking for Samuel Cope MCADOO born 16 Oct 1821 in Tenn. Married twice, first to Mary CHEW and second to Isabelle SIPMA. His father was Finley Stewart MCADOO. Samuel died aug 1906 in Runnells, Polk Co., IA. He lived in Marion Co., IA also. Thank you.

Glenda Odell Seeking to contact descendents of James G. MCCOY and Mary Eva ODELL. They resided at 1515 Lyon St. in Des Moines for many years. He died 24 Jan 1940 and she died 22 Oct 1950. At the time of Mary's death, daughters Mrs. W. F. (Emma J.) PARSONS, Mrs. George E. (Dollie L.) SLACK, Mrs. Earl E. (Blossem B.) MCGREW, and Mrs. Darrell O. (Nellie) CURRENTT all resided in Des Moines. Son Thomas G. MCCOY, resided in Fredericksburg, IA and son Frederick E. resided in Webster City, IA. Family resided in Creston, Union Co., IA in 1900. Sherrill Madden Eugene TUCKER and wife Rosie MORRELL, came to Iowa in about 1870 by wagon train. During the trip their daughter Cora died in an indian attack. After arriving in Des Moines daughter Minnie was born and then Grayce Louise (my GG Grandmother) and then son Wilde/Wylie. Would appreciate a Census look-up for 1870 and 1880 in Des Moines for the names TUCKER, Eugene and MORRELL (Rosie's family may have accompanied them on the journey. 


Mae Schwartz Samuel JELLISON, c. 1813 m unknown spouse. Son John W. JELLISON, b.c 1837 in IN, m 1866 Hannah Adeline CASS b.c. 1846 in IA. John and Hannah had daughter Adella JELLISON 1867-1923, who married William Jackson DAGGY 1861-1948. Adella and William resided Polk Co., IA about 1910. 


Geary Grange John (Jack) GRANGE (GRANGER) married Lottie STEEL 14 Feb 1900. They had one child 23 Dec 1900. Would like any information on this family. They were living in Berwick and Des Moines. 


Susan Shepherd I am looking for information on my father, Ralph Alvin METZ, born in Des Moines 7/2/1915. Also my grandmother, Grace Marie (THOMPSON) Metz, and grandfather, Thomas Payne METZ. Any information on the METZ or THOMPSON families in that area around 1915 would be greatly appreciated. 


Mae Schwartz George William EVANS (c.1850-?) and Mary Elizabeth SHERIFF (c.1870-?), m abt. 1886. Known to have lived in Polk Co., IA in 1887, when their son Alva was born. Alva (1887-1962) was known to have three sisters: Carrie, Minnie, and Alice. Would appreciate any information on parents, and siblings. 


Erma Stevenson Della Myrtle HOLTSCLAW b 27 Nov 1872 in Clive, Polk Co., IA, was the daughter of John William HOLTSCLAW and Amanda PARKS. Her brothers and sisters include: John Edward; James Park; Charlie Henry; Sarah Jan who married a KILDAW; Ida May who married a GOURLEY; and Mary Emily who married John BELT. Would love to correspond with anyone working on this line. 


Merle Price Searching for Annie Mae BURTON, born 3 Jan 1883 at Des Moines, IA. She married William Robert SOUTH on 9 Sep., 1901 in Cass County, ND. She is also known as Annie Mae GEERLING. I would like very much to find her parents and any of their descendents. 


Mary Scott Looking for info on Jesse PEARCE, b 1868 in WI. Last address in Des Moines, IA, 1920 Census. Wife was Florence LOCKIE. Children were: Ethel, Vera, Kenneth, Dorothy. Carol Barrett Seeking information on anyone related to the LEONARD family of Des Moines. Frank LEONARD married Carrie HUTCHINS on Sept 2, 1894. They had five children: Carolyn, b 7 Dec, 1900 - d 1934; Mabel; James; Josephine; and Dave. Carolyn married Charles BARNETT Oct. 11, 1919. He died in 1930. Both Charles and Carolyn are buried in Jordan Cemetery, West Des Moines near Valley Junction. 


Bill Mahrley Looking for info on Zenas EVANS. He died in Des Moines on August 29, 1894. His wife Miriam applied for Civil War Pension in Des Moines on June 20, 1895. She could not read or write and was assisted by their youngest daughter Rachel b. 1882 in Ohio. It is my understanding that several family members are buried at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Des Moines. Zenas and Miriam were born in Wales. All of their six children were born in Ohio. The children were: Azariah, Elizabeth, John, Ruth, Mary and Rachel. I would really like to know what family members are buried in Laurel Hill Cemetery. I know that Sadie Hargrave Evans and at least two of her children are there. She was a ggaunt and died in 1968 in Des Moines. I would appreciate any information on this family. 


Debra Graham Looking for any information on Henry SCHUSTER, or any SCHUSTER living in Polk County. My Henry was born May 1848? in Schuylkill County, PA or Germany. He moved abt 1850 with family to Naperville, Dupage Co., IL, at the time of his fathers death in 1900 he lived at 410 SE 5th St., Des Moines, Iowa. I would like to contact any family still in the area or get any info on the SCHUSTER family from this area. 


Andrew Stewart Is there any information on a Hugh STEWART, or his son Andrew Johnson STEWART who supposedly came to Tama Co., from Ireland (via Pennsylvania)? He eventually settled in the Des Moines area. He may have come to the United States in the 1870's. Also may have married a "red-haired" lady with the last name of Fisher. Hugh may have had another son by the name of Bill or William. Hugh is reported to have died of a sudden unknown cause. His son Bill accused his mother, Hugh's wife, of poisoning him, according to family tradition. 


Lois Mensing Searching for surnames of FULLER and DE FORD. My Great Grandfather was Herbert Justus DARTT, married to Mary FORD. They had daughters by the name of Minnie (1st wife of Paul HEUCKENDORF), Hattie (married to LEWIS and later 2nd wife of Paul HEUCKENDORF), Emma (married FULLER) and Jennie (married Carl DE FORD). Info on these surnames would be much appreciated.
