Ted Steinhorst WALL: One of my ancestors was born in Otselic, Chenango Co., NY and had a son named Authur WALLS, who lived in or near Des Moines, IA about 1937. In the same time period, some of his brothers and sisters lived in the northwest. Would like to find some of his descendants in Iowa. Steve Hols Jacob J. HOLS, born in Holland, died Sept. 23rd, 1923 at Mercy hospital of gunshot. The family lived in the Pella/Oskaloosa, Iowa area. Looking for Obits and stories on the shooting. 


Charles Close Looking for info on my gg GF who lived and farmed in Polk County. Supposedly 150 acres. His name was William R. CLOSE. First wife was Belinda. I would like to know the names of his parents. He was born in Madison, IN in 1816. He should be in the 1850 Census for Polk County. In 1860 and 1870, then I was told he moved to Kansas. The #1 thing I'd like to know is the names of his parents. Is there any document which will show this? 


Donald Grossman I have a Bainbridge BLAKER, born in Pennsylvania that may be Benjamin BLAKER but he went by Bainbridge, married Ailry LOWERY in Iowa, she having been married first to a HOUSER who had migrated to Iowa and has a child, Ida Mae Blaker, born 9 November, 1858, at Des Moines, Iowa, Polk County. Either Bainbridge BLAKER dies or they get a divorce as in ca 1864 there is another child Benjamin F. Blaker, born ca 1864 Indiana. Anything available on such situation in Polk Co., Iowa. Thanks! 


Betty Beard Looking for information on Marie Iona Van CLEAVE. DOB 12-22-1900. DOD 8-6-43. Married Charles L. BEEBE Sr. and had 4 children: Charles L. Jr.; Mary; Jennie; and LaVerne. Son is still living but does not know anything about background as mother died when he was young. Death Cert. states that Marie's parents were J. H. Van Cleave and Hattie Switzer. Marie and husband Charles resided in Des Moines and raised their children there. Also know that she is buried in Laurel Hill Cemetery next to her husband. Any help would be appreciated.

Rodger Fisher Zachariah CRUM born 1835 married Armenda Young (Osage Indian), died 1912/13 in Des Moines, IA of a heart attack while working for Chicago Rock Island and Pacific RR. He was in the 4th Mo. Calvary Confederate Army w Gen. Price. Children were: Israel (gggrandfather) CRUM, Nancy, Mary, Kathern, James, Jake, Francis and possibly Fanny. 


Thomas Ryan Looking for information on Thomas RYAN, his wife Mary, and family. They imigrated in 1846 via Canada. Tom and Mary's son, John, eventually settled near Booneville, Iowa. A brother, William, settled near Farrar, Iowa about 1854/55. William helped establish the HCross parish in Farrar, I am told. I would appreciate any information, leads, etc. that anyone could provide. 


Betty H. Minnick Am looking for information on the SHERRIFF brothers, P. Beryl & Landrine, sons of Landrine Ciscoe SHERRIFF b. 1857, Gilmer Co., GA. They were businessmen in Des Moines, IA in the early 1920's. They were involved with the Sherriffdale Farms; Capitol Hill Monument Co.; Sherriff Motor Co./Studebaker near corner of 10th & Locust. Jane Byrnes I am looking for information on Thomas MARTIN b. Oct., 13, 1859 in Butler Co., PA and died in Des Moines 29 Mar., 1936. He also had a brother Reed MARTIN. 


Kim Foltz Seeking info on Clarinda EUTSLER (b. Jan 18, 1860 in Appanoose County; died Jan 24, 1943 in Berwick, Polk County). RE: info I have, Clarinda arrived in Berwick @ 1919 and remained there till her death. Her parents were John (b. Apr 24, 1818; d. Feb 1900) and Sarah Elizabeth JINN (b. Jun 5, 1815; d. Jul 1893). Clarinda (Clara) married Lyman Homer REED in Feb 1880. They had 3 children: John Christopher (b. Dec 8, 1880), Jessie Pearl (b. Apr 1, 1884) and Erma (who died in infancy). After Lyman REED's death in 1887, Clarinda remarried a man named N. A. SNOOKS and they had 3 sons: William, Arthur, and Earl. Wm., Arthur and Mr. Snooks died before Clarinda). Any info would be appreciated. 


Darrold My mother, Arlene Ann (FRANZENBURG) LUZE gave birth to a child approx. 2 mos. before her death on 9-20-1949. After her death, I was adopted by my maternal grandparents. At age 46 I was told the truth by my aunt -- that I have a half sibling. S/he is believed to have been born in July or August 1949 at Polk Co. Hospital, Des Moines, and was immediately given up for adoption. My Mother (after divorcing my Father) lived in Cedar Rapids where she met this child's father, but moved to Bondurant, IA after learning she was pregnant. She lived with a farm family there until the baby was born. I would like to meet this sibling, if possible. Please give me any info you can on how I might locate this person. Thank You.

Craig Fairall I am looking for Vera Faith ROBERTS and George FAITH. They lived in Des Moines, IA, Polk County. Vera's first marriage was to George. She remarried a Roberts, first name unknown. Marianne Durrell William Hartley DURRELL married Elizabeth EWING. William was born en route to USA from Guernsey, Channel Islands. Children were Lloyd Cecil b. 1928; Mary and William. Elizabeths father was John Ewing, Scott-Irish. Elizabeth had 17 siblings, Lee, Robert, Bertha, Lila, Faye and the rest are unknown. Their farm was located where the Veterans Hospital is now. Names associated with these families are: Wright; Van Cleve; Mitchell; and Funaro. Any kin or information about these families would be much appreciated.

Mark Watkins I'm looking for info on the families of Wesley WATKINS and wife Bashela (BIGGS) WATKINS who came to Iowa in 1853 from Laurel County KY. Wesleyfled KY after killing a man who was abusive to his niece. My GG Grandfather, Wiley, aided his flight. Wesley settled in Newton. He had 6 sons and 6 daughters. The oldest son, Luke W. WATKINS lived at 1426/8 Walnut Street in Des Moines. He had a son, Weldon, who was a plumber. Luke had 8 other children in Des Moines - 5 were alive in 1897 and 4 had died. Wesley's daughters who moved to Des Moines were Anna (2 daughters) and Minerva. Daughters in Newton were Lizzie, Nancy, Amanda, and Maggie. Any info on this family is appreciated. 


Nancy Marsh Searching for any info on Lawrence Field b. in 1890, d. in 1983. He married Gertrude Wagner/ Wilson. Her 1st husband was Wilson. They lived in Des Moines. Anyone know anything about the FIELD family? Thanks! 


Duane Edwards Am trying to find marriage of Hosea Wards EDWARDS b. 11 May, 1829 in VT. He married Theresa (Thirza) GABLE on 22 January 1855 but don't know where. Hosea died 31 July 1909 in Iowa. Theresa d. 9 May 1875 in Webster City, Hamilton County, Iowa. She is buried in the Homewood Cemetery in Ellsworth, Hamilton County, Iowa. Her father was Asa ADAMS and her mother was Elizabeth GABLE. The first child of Hosea and Theresa, Ward EDWARDS, was born 28 May, 1857 in Polk City, Polk County, Iowa. 


Cynthia Lange Looking for information on great-grandfather, William MCPHERSON. He married a Marie ELLIS, and they lived in Cut Knife, Canada in 1915 when grandfather was born, but moved to Des Moines soon afterwards. William was a motorman on a streetcar. He died in 1938 in Des Moines, Iowa, Polk County. Marie died somewhere around 1958 or 59. They had four children; Embert, Emma, Raymond, and Anna.

Clara L. Smith Seeking info on William LIVINGSTON b. 24 May 1810 NY State, d. 17 Jan 1882, Wayland, IA and wife Elizabeth b. 19 Jan 1814 NY State and d. 29 June 1893, Wayland, IA. Lived in Lake Co., IN 1848 to ca 1858. Need to know who were their parents and where in NY State were they born. 


Dennis Delmott I am seeking information on my grandfather Burr O. DELMOTT. He is listed on my father's birth certificate as being 26 yers. of age in Feb. 1913; place of birth being Iowa and occupation of "R.R. Man". He was married (?) to Georgia Francis, who was born in Hamilton, Iowa. They divorced and she married a J. E. WATERS. Georgia died in June 1916. The son of Burr and Georgia was then raised by Georgia's sister - Mamie Francis WILSON. On the birth cert., Burr and Georgia were residing at 1501 e. Walnut St., Des Moines, Iowa in 1913. I have been unable to locate any additional information on Burr DELMOTT as to where he may have moved after the divorce (or separating). I would be interested in any information with the surname of DELMOTT. Thanks in advance. 


Mark Wheeler I am trying to get information on my great grandfather Manson Douglas WHEELER. He was born around 1875 and died in 1966. Although he lived in S.E. Nebraska for awhile, he spent several years of his life in Stuart. I believe he was living in Des Moines when he died. Any information would be appreciated. 


Delbert Lilley I need to know if anyone knows anything about a John R. BROWN, born in Illinois about 1825 and married a Mary CLARK. They came to Iowa and had 7 children supposedly around the Des Moines area of Polk County and then Mary ended up in Creede, Colorado, and died there. Don't know where John R. died and would like information on them if someone knows any. 


Janice Buchanan Looking for ALFREY's of Des Moines and Marion Co., IA. Pattie C. Naoma ALFREY was born in Red Rock, Marion, IA. Her sister was Nora or Nona. Pattie married John YOUNG of PA. in 1864. V. Core Need information on John D. BEDELL, b. 29 Sept., 1817 Bath County, Kentucky died 1 June, 1902 at Rockwell City, IA. Married Rachel COLLINS b. 28 Sept., 1826 Warren County, IA. Died 24 Sept., 1915 in Rockwell City, IA. They married 28 Dec., 1846 at Fort Des Moines, Polk Co., IA. They had several children some were born in Red Rock, Marion Co., and Prairie City. Janet Church I am seeking information on the family of my GG Grandparents, Edmund LOUGHRAN and his wife, Sarah Ann BRIERS. They arrived in Des Moines from New York in 1857 and had nine children. There is some evidence that by 1912, Edmund was living in Ames, IA.

Jim Thomas Seeking information about Joseph J. O'NEILL (son of John and Ellen O'NEILL) b. Feb 1854 in Scotland or Ireland. Died 14 Jun, 1911 in Des Moines, IA and his wife Mary Sebena GRELL (daughter of Peter and Mary GRELL) b. 24 Oct. 1860, Fort Dodge, IA. Died 6 Feb, 1940 in Des Moines, IA. They were married 22 June, 1876 Corpus Christi. They had 11 children, all born in Angus (near Ft. Dodge) or Des Moines, IA. My relationship is through their son John Lawrence and his wife Mary Helen KIRKPATRICK, married 1 June, 1910, Des Moines, IA. 


Kim Foltz Seeking info on Roy Freeman NEWTON, born 1839 in Wathena, KS, died Oct 11, 1947 in Iowa. Roy's parents were Marion Phoenix NEWTON and Mary Catherine GRAHAM. He married Crystine BERGREN, born in Centerville, Iowa. Mabel's parents were Peter BERGREN (from Sweden) and Lena LARSEN. Censuses list Peter's wife as Irma, but she is not Mabel's mother. Story is Mabel was raised in an orphanage but cannot verify that. She appears on the 1910 census with Peter and Irma, at age 5, in Four-Mile Township, Polk Ctyl, Iowa and again on the 1920 census in the S. B. Brafford household as servant at age 15. Unable to find her after 1920. 


Kim Foltz Seeking any info on Clint and Mary E. HOWARD. Clint b 1855-57 in Illinois, Mary b 1858-60 in Illinois. Located Clint's marriage record, 1881 Polk County, married Susannah Hammers PERSON. Lists residence as East Des Moines; father Rezin HOWARD; mother's maiden name WILSON. Track Clint from 1885 and 1895 Iowa State Censuses, and 1900, 1910, and 1920 federal census in Camp Township. However, cannot locate prior to 1895 ex the marriage record, he does NOT appear in the 1880 census. Family story is Clint & Mary were abducted/raised by an unknown NA nation, when/where also unknown. They left the nation when Clint was @ 16, placing it about 1871-73...am trying to find his whereabouts from then till his marriage in 1881. Also trying to locate his father, Rezin HOWARD. Clint's marriage record lists both born in IL but can find neither. Have tried finding birth record, unable to locate. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Family story says is unknown what became of Mary. 


Patricia Bunyard I am looking for information on William BUNYARD b. 1866 in MO. He lived on E. 5th St. in East Des Moines from ca. 1900 - and raised a family there. He was married to Angeline BARNARD in 1881 and they had a son Edward 1818/82. Angeline later moved to Colfax but I believe William may have divorced and remarried Ella (??) and remained in Polk County. Any Death records, particularly pointing to his parents' names, and other information needed. 


Robert Schwartz Need info on Wilhelm Frederich SCHWARTZ, born 6 Feb 1830, died 23 Oct 1911, Des Moines, IA. Would like to know where he was born and the correct spelling of his wifes name. I have Augusta Christina (TOEPFER) born 22 Feb 1832, died 3 Feb 1911. Wilhelms father Erdman. No other info. Suspect he came from Schleswig-Holstein area of Germany? Nel Hatcher Abner and Harriet HALL (birth, death, locations unknown) had several kids, can find only 2 so far, Luther Loyd MILLER b 1877, Carlisle, Decatur Co., IA married 1900 to Grace DeEtte MILLER b 1875, Norwalk, Warren Co., IA. Leary HALL b 1874, married Maude RICE 1895 in Avon, Polk Co., IA. Info on any of these or possible connections would be most appreciated. 


Betty H. Minnick P. Beryl SHERRIFF and brother Landrine C. SHERRIFF businessmen in Des Moines, Polk, IA in the early 1920's. They owned a car dealership, monument company and P. Beryl's home was named Sherriffdale Farms. They were sons of Landrine Cisroe SHERRIFF and Sarah E. MC CAIN of Hickory County, MO. Probably born in the early 1880's. Exchangeable? 


Shawn E. Stock Looking for information on Charles SEIBERT born in Ames, IA. Found H. SEIBERT in "History of Polk County, Iowa 1880. Believe it to be his grandfather. Charles married Jewell Kathryn BURNS. Jewell had changed her name, we believe it was originally STEWART. She had one brother name unknown and one sister named Joy.

Alan Siegle I am trying to get information about my fathers family who lived in Des Moines between 1903-1922. According to City records, my Grandparents (Isaac Siegal and Belle (BRAUNSTEIN) SIEGAL) arrived in Des Moines, approximately 1903. They left Romania, and traveled to the United States, date unknown. They had five children in Des Moines who were: Aaron, born 1905; Ruth E., born January 3, 1908; Jeanette Yetta, born January 10, 1910; William Louis (my father), born September 6, 1912; Alex O., born June 13, 1918. My father said that they lived on a 180 acre farm, that was a government grant. They lost the farm, most likely due to poor farming skills. My grandfather died on August 2, 1922, and is buried in the Jewish Glendale Cemetery. After my grandfather died, the family moved out of Iowa. The family name was spelled Siegal in Iowa, later to be spelled Siegle. I have the following questions: 1. How do I trace the 180 acre government land grant? 2. How would I search for school records? 3. How do I search for additional family members? I would appreciate any information that anyone can provide. Thank You! 


Artie Nichols Seeking info on Thomas Bishop HICKMAN who married Sarah Jane HUTCHINS, daughter of Napolean and Martha HUTCHINS about 1870. T. B. HICKMAN is listed on Militia roster from 1872-1877 in Dallas County. Sarah Jane remarried (2) E. A. MENDENHALL, (3) Frank MERICAL. T. B. and Sarah's daughter was Aletha Lenora who married John Henry NICHOLS in 1891. He was the son of Thomas Jefferson and Permilla NICHOLS. Sarah Jane died in Polk County, West Des Moines. 


Mary A. Wagoner I am researching my Grandmother Rosa Viola KIDD and her parents, James Eldridge KIDD and Elizabeth Jane (Jenny) SMITH. Rosa and her sister Francis were orphaned in Des Moines, IA at the age of 2 and 6 years when their mother, Elizabeth, died in 1921 at the age of 33. Have no idea where father went. Am looking for information on the Kidd surname for these people mentioned. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. 


Bonnie DesEnfants John Harrison SMITH and wife Sarah BEALS lived in Polk County, IA. They had children: Edward W.; Henry W.; and Adalia M. who was born 22 Nov. 1860 in Polk Co. John died 6 April, 1862, Pitts Landing, TN at the Battle of Shiloh. Sarah remarried Andrew BAKER II, possibly in Polk Co. Andrew's son Francis M. BAKER married Louisa DAVIS, 8 Sept., 1861 in Polk Co. I would like to find the marriage date of Andrew and Sarah. Any information on this BAKER - SMITH family would be appreciated.

Frank Richards Searching for the family of my Grandfather Kenneth M. YOUNG. My father Kenneth Joseph was born 1920 in Des Moines. His father on his birth certificate, and the 1920 census lists Kenneth M. YOUNG as a fireman in Des Moines. My Grandmother was Blanche Marie BEEMAN. Paula McManus Looking for info on Patrick and Bessie (TIERNEY) MCMANUS. Children were: Kate; Patrick; John; Mary; and three more, born in County Cavaan, Ireland. Came here in 1885. John MC MANUS was an original employee of the Maytag Co., in Newton. John and his wife Bertha SHERMAN were married in Polk County in 1898 and lived there two years before moving to Newton. Their children are: Merle; Harold; Beulah; Leonard; Bessie; Ernest; Wilma; and June. 


Frank Richards My GG Grandfather was Frederick GRUENING, I don't know his birth or death date. His wife was Wilhemina STRACHE born 1825 in Germany. She die 1890 and is buried at the Woodlawn Cemetery. Buried in her plot at Woodlawn is my Grandfather Rudolph R. GRUENING born 1895 D.M., and died 1962, D.M., and his wife Susie Mae WILLIAMS. My G Grandfather Rudolph A. GRUENING and his wife Dorothea SCHERSACH are also buried at Woodlawn. If anyone has any info on these surnames, I would like to correspond.

My mother and Roy were married in Des Moines on 3-19-1949 and divorced due to father's dessertion in 1957. Roy's father was Roy Raymond Streever, Sr. born 12-26-1884 in Clear Lake, IA Cerro Gordo County and his mother was Minnie Ethel BEADLE born 1895 in Beacon Iowa.
