Leota Belle Cooksey Remembers

As told by Leota Belle Cooksey, younger sister of my Great Grandmother Lucy Louise "Ada" Cooksey, when referring to Grandparents.  Leota means the Oliver and Lucy (Rodenbaugh) Hogeboom, when she mentions Aunt Mary she means Mary (Erwin) McGhee, wife of Merideth McGee/McGhee they lived in Guthrie Co., Iowa.. James Kimber Cooksey's maternal Aunt his mother was Louisa Maria (Erwin) Cooksey.

When Leota mentions Aunt Belle and carrying her coffin in their wagon to Mitchellville, this is Belle (Williams) Cooksey, their Aunt through James Kimber Cooksey's older brother Francis Marion Cooksey, who I noticed is on your site and one of his sons in the Des Moines City Directory he was a Barber.

Leota tells the story of my Great Grandparents George Washington Day and "Ada" Lucy Louise Cooksey, leaving Cherry Co., NE., back to Des Moines Polk Co., Iowa, by donkey probably because they were going to get married in Des Moines and staying with her Grandparents the Hogebooms. My notes state that my Great Grandparents George W Day and Lucy Louise "Ada" Cooksey, married 9 Nov 1898 in Des Moines, Polk Co.,Iowa. (This introduction by Laree' McDaniel Lee)
