Polk County, Iowa History Prior to 1880 This is a great resource for Polk County Researchers who have relatives living in the county prior to 1880. All kudos go to Marion and his brother Roger for placing this fantastic resource online for everyone to benefit from. It covers everything from biographies to Civil War rosters. When you visit the site, use the menu (table of contents) along the left side of the page to navigate through the different sections of the web site. Please keep in mind that the files are very large and if you use a slower modem, you will have to wait awhile for each page to load - but it's worth it. Click above to go to the site. You can also search the Polk County History site using the Polk County IAGenWeb search engine. Depending on the link you click you will either go to the text file (black text on a white background) or the web page containing the text and links to the text file. To tell the difference look at the last three characters of the link. If they are the letters "txt" you will be sent to the text file. All other links will take you to the web page. Keep in mind the search results will lead you to the page that contains your search criteria but it won't take you directly to the point within the page where your search phrase is found. To find your search phrase within the page, use the "find" feature of your browser. It's usually found in the "Edit" menu along the top left of your browser window. |
