The first items are photographs are of Aaron and Johanna Himan. The top photos were taken the year before they homesteaded, 1869. The bottom photos were taken on their homestead 26 years later in 1895. Lee supplied these so one could see the how the hardship of pioneer life would take its toll on a person.

Lee also sent in a photograph of the first car purchased by Carl Himan. It is a 1911 Flanders they purchased in 1912.
A notice in the "Palmer Iowa 1900-2000 History Book" states:
"The Himan family purchased its first automobile in 1912, from the Olson and Ljungren Company. The car was a Flanders touring car, manufactured by the E.M.F. Company. After many mergers and name changes, the company became the Chrysler Motor Car Company." |
